If you keep turning it you could make one titanium engine valve out of that

Or a Titanium toothpick, that would be cool.

Man I feel bad for whoever had to work that entire OD over with a grinder.

Machining Titanium is all about the lubricity of the coolant. High oil contents make a massive difference in machining speed capability.

Dangerous lifting the stock material like that - at least use two straps at a 90 degree angle. The machining itself is cool. I work in a machine shop where large and heavy work is done and there's more exotic materials quite often but I have not yet seen titanium.

That's a lot of titanium

I’d love to know what something like that is actually used for. Is it subsequently sliced to make other parts?

I wonder how that will be used.

Hey James, what would you say would be your biggest typical size (diameter) part in a vertical lathe? Or, in other words, if you had to buy a new VL, and wanted it to be as small as possible, yet big enough to work on most jobs, what size would it be? Thx.

Are you a representative of the company? Looking to buy a machine? I think you know the answer to your question. I have a set size that I usually process. Customers only bring items of similar size. The region you are in is also important. If there are many companies around that deal with large products, the larger the machine, the better. However, if you want to process a variety of products, it would be better to buy multiple machines, but if you must choose, I think two 40-inch and 18-inch machines are sufficient. If you think about the size of the products you mainly use, you will already have decided on the machine you need to purchase.😀

@@jamespark_85machiningtv Thanks for that. I neither represent, nor am I looking for something *right now*, but it's good to keep these things in mind, because you never know. I'm not normally into the big (horizontal) lathe or mill work/parts (many others who can do it), and I don't really know what's comon out there, size-wise; but VL is kind of a niche market (comparatively) where I might be interested getting in at some point (if the stars align, etc.). I know there are some lathes that can swing short parts up to around 0.5m if you remove the gap, so I guess having a VL with 1m capacity for anything above that makes sense, as most folks won't have a lathe for capacities above that in their shops. Thx again.

What's interesting? These people have machine tools and don't know the exact term to describe the machine.
