Paul McCartney was once asked if there was one song he wished he had written .. he sincerely replied 👉 A Whiter Shade Of Pale 😢😢

And Paul McCartney has said that "Whiter Shade of Pale" was Paul and Linda's "song" (his first wife of 29 years until her death from breast cancer in 1998, they married in March of 1969), IT was playing in a club where Paul first met Linda. If she hadn't died they would have still been married today. They were truly soul mates.

RIP Gary Brooker who died not too long ago. I LOVE THIS SONG since it first came out in 1967 and he sounds JUST as GOOD as he did back then when it was first released. The ORGAN is what MAKES this song, I have heard a version without the organ, and it is so NOT the same, it doesn't work at all.

Gary Brooker is sadly no longer with us, thank goodness with have this masterpiece to view for eternity. Everyone on that stage performed to perfection, I believe this is the finest live version of a song with an accompanying orchestra. Simply beautiful.

Always loved this song my mom and dad played it a lot when I was a kid teenager etc I only know the original version from the 60s it's so beautiful. I love the fact you watched the whole thing instead of keep stopping it that annoys me with some reaction youtubers. Yes I think it was on an advert but I'm getting visions of Dulux paint I dunno why 😂😂😂

In the '60's and '70's there was terrific music under every rock in the UK. Must have been something in the water. Some say "A whiter shade of pale" is death and the "miller" (the miller told his tale) is a white powdery (like cocaine) moth. "The ceiling flew away" "Although my eyes were open they might just as well've been closed". Overdose? Who knows. Can you think of a better way to spend a summer's eve than sitting in a lovely forest clearing listening to beautiful music.....REAL music?

The tune is based 9n Air on the G string by Bach that’s why it’s familiar. ❤❤ at school in the 70s we always understood this to be a drug overdose.

Love this version just as much as the original from the late 60s. The lyrics still as melancholy & intriguing now as they were with my first hallucinogenic hearing. Fab voice then fab voice in 2006. Rip Mr Broker

Gary Brooker's voice had changed very little since he and his band had released the original in 1967, when he was all of 22 years old. You should dig up the original, for which there was a music video made at that time, and compare Gary's voice then and in 2006. Nearly identical. Exceptional voice, exceptional song. Don't worry too much about the meaning of the lyrics; it's basically a mood piece. There are a number of disagreeing thoughts about what the song is supposed to be about and these debates will continue for however long the song is heard. The lyrist, a fan of dadaism, Dali, and surrealism, was painting a mood with words. It's up to the listener to inform the lyrics with his/her own experience and interpretation.

Step 1 - Orchestra prelude Step 2 - Gary Brooker and orchestra Step 3 - Gary Brooker + orchestra + band (Procol Harum) + choir “A WHITER SHADE OF PALE” was released by Procol Harum in 1967 and it was their first single ❤ RIP Gary Brooker 1945 - 2022 *PROCOL HARUM is a latin expression that means "beyond these things”, but the legend tells that was a Burmese Blue cat, that belonged to a friend of the band and that he lived until 1972. The cat’s name was actually Procul Harun, but the cat’s name was misspelled.

Oh I love this song but I've never heard this rendition nor was I really aware of who actually sang it. I never really bothered with the lyrics either, because that haunting melody always captivated me. This was a fantastic performance. Well done and RIP Gary Brooker. Nice reaction HAP and thanks for this suggestion Chris 🥰🙋🏻‍♀️.

New subscriber. Thank you for letting this run straight through w-no stopping & breaking it up. There are lots of theories & speculation about the meaning, one of which is Bach's “Sleepers, Wake!” and “Air on the G String;” it's also said that lyricist Keith Reid was going to "reveal" the true meaning before he died but he died this March 2023 w-out saying anything, so the story goes. Also, varying consensus for the name Procul Harum -- a Latin phrase Procul Harun (roughly meaning “far beyond these things”); also the pedigree name of his friend's cat; & a corruption of Procellarum, a vast ocean on the Moon. Whatever is correct or incorrect, what really matters is we have this amazing piece of work to listen to forever. Thank you.

In an interview, Booker explained the song is a lyrical, poetic story of a break up in which the woman simply tells him she's leaving for the coast with no explanation as to why. When he confronts her, she turned a whiter shade of pale, but still offered no explanation. Long story short. I love this symphonic version of the song. It was originally released in May of 1967 when I was a senior in high school, and immediately became one of my favorite songs. Still is.

From what I've heard/read about this song, the title verse came first and the rest of the song was written around it. And, well basically, there isn't really a deep meaning. Just a lonely line (in my opinion one of the greatest lines ever written) looking for a [insert clever whatever here]. And Bob's your uncle...
