Saw them live in 1974. PROCOL HARUM were a most modest band; they were on stage to play - not for lightshow bathing. They were an essence of true quality. They didn't sound like many others - they were originators. Not a hit machine, but creators of very outstanding material. Thank you so much for uploading this! Barrie J. Wilson was in my humble opinion one of the very few really creative drummers - he illustrated PROCOL HARUMs grand "poetic and musical paintings" to another dimension - no less. Rest in peace, boys - you gave me sooo much more than most of them others - you made me rich by owning your recordings!

PH was one of the very best concert bands ever. Like hearing Beethoven through Marshalls. I saw them with axemen Robin Trower, Dave Ball twice and Mick Grabham. For several hours they threw back the curtain of the gods, with thunder and brimstone, and u were emotionally and physically spent when leaving their shows. Thank u, PH, for being such an important part of the musical fabric of my Baby Boom gen. Much appreciated.

One of my favorite bands from the late ‘60s and early ‘70s. Melodic, dynamic, and powerful. Killer vocals (RIP Gary Brooker) and great playing fom eveybody. This is the first I’ve heard of the guitar player who replaced Robin Trower. Robin’s great, but so was Dave! Great bass playing too, although he’s hardly shown in this clip. And the drumming is just spectacular. What a great band! And it’s great to hear Conquistador again-I hadn’t heard it in years.

Wonderful to hear all of thsi live but especially for me (most) of 'In Held Twas In I'. If Procul didn't invent prog with 'Pale' then they certainly invented it with this suite (1968!) and it's a wonder they're not more celebrated and acknowledged as such. Incredible band.

Awesome! Thank you for posting! I saw them twice in the 70s with Robin Trower. One of my 3 top bands that never aged, together with Doors and Beatles. Procol got super lucky getting BJ Wilson, he was targeted by Led Zeppelin but didn't join. Twist of fate, because Procol would have never gone that far with the drummer BJ replaced early in the game. Brooker & Co remain timeless, they are the single most unique band in the history. There is simply no one like them.

I m the author of The Ghosts Of A Whiter Shade Pale. I interviewed Dave Ball in my book extensively about his time in Procol and this missing VT of the Osaka Shows. You cannot begin to grasp HOW RARE this is. Probably the only fully surviving copy of this anywhere in the world. One of only three Shows featuring Dave Ball from this time frame INA France and Studio Hamburg being the other two copyright holders with surviving period masters. Dave only did three televised concerts with Procol in his time as their guitar player. The 1971-1972 juncture. The band are on fire on the back of their Edmonton album from autumn 1971 but issued in March 1972.

Brilliant material and good to see Dave B in peak form. The 'in held' segment is great and unbroken whereas as the audience recordings of both nights have a tape flip at that point. thank you

Sure brings back memories. I was in a refugee camp in Capua, Italy when their song, Whiter shade of Pale became a hit. Also, the jukebox in the cantina always played "American Woman" by Guess Who.

Merci !

Thanks for posting! I've seen countless performers ( seeing Buddy Guy, John Hiatt and Sonny Landreth together this July), but I have never seen a band quite like Procol Harum! So appreciate B.J. and Gary Brooker. RIP.
