Before he began his 3 1/2 year sentence Prodigy of Mobb Deep granted the Urban Daily a candid interview where he speaks about his album H.N.I.C. 2, his arrest, why they tried to get him to frame 50 Cent, why NAS ain't poppin' and why Jay-Z is a liar

When I was young and I was into Rap I used to love P for some reason... now I kow why he's real and isn't afraid to speak on what he feels. He's talking about the police wanting him to set up 50, jay-z, nas, the illuminati, etc. Immortal technique and P are my favourite rappers, not so much because of their music but because of their interviews and views behind their records.

It's takes a person that doesn't love Hip Hop to say that Hip Hop is still alive through Soulja Boy. The culture is very much alive but sad to say the music is dead. Rap took over a lot of shit and in order to find the good Hip Hop, you gotta look for it. It's not marketed like it used to be before. I can go on and on about this subject but Nas wasn't buggin for what he said. True Talk!

@SheltonCross Finally, somebody else says it. How can you justify life in hip-hop by pointing at Soulja Boy's career? For those that don't know, there is a difference between rap and hip-hop. Shelton, I'm glad you are here to show me that I'm not the onlyt one who knows this.

My problem with what Nas said is that there are true to heart hip hop heads still out there on the grind connecting with the fans and people who appreciate quality music. would have been more appropriate for him to say "COMMERCIAL HIP HOP IS DEAD" or "WATERED DOWN HIP HOP IS DEAD"but he categorized a whole culture because of what the industry and mainstream artists have done with the music. I am and always been a fan of Nas but that one right there, can't fade it. He could have emphasized better

Madd props. to Prodigy keepin' it real, all the time...but, I think, he's got it twisted! Nas dosen't mean, HipHop is dead(in general). He means, real HipHop...as far as, lyrical content, battling and, skills. No disrespect to Soulja Boy but, I feel, he isn't a real hiphop artist! He's more of a pop singer(if, you ask me)! He would never fall into the catagory with, the Rakims, Jay-Zs, DMXs, Nas's, Mobb Deeps, D-Blocks, etc.. Soulja boy makes good music though. ;-)

@Richdavt Exactly. He didn't get Mobb signed or anything like that, but he certainly helped them get exposure. People forget before Nas came out, Queensbridge wasn't really poppin like that for a few years. You had to go back to the MC Shan days and what not. Nas brought QB back and then Mobb Deep, CNN, Cormega, etc... came along and carried it as well. But Nas was the bridge.

And there is the problem. Hip hop has expanded to where artistically and culturally, the lines have been so blurred that new fans don't know the origins and the distinctions between the different facets of hip hop. I don't even consider Wayne and Jeezy hip hop. I look at them as street pop, trap music, dope boy soundtracks not pure hip hop. They're vibe is more rock and techno than the bebop, jazz and soul of Rakim or Kane. People have not distinguished the artist and the forms each use.

anymore cause everybody is looking at the IMAGE of rappers as opposed to what they are actually saying. It's almost like you have to have a costume in order to be considered a good rapper instead of what you are saying out of your mouth. I remember when rhymes, bars, lyrical content mattered and if you didn't say anything you were quickly dismissed until you did say something. Now it's the beats and melodies with a catchy hook, anything that get's people dancing.

@RKG5A5 I will say this about Soulja Boy. He was the first rapper to really use the internet to his advantage and market himself via youtube, blogging, twitter, etc.. now you have all these rappers blogging and doing twitter accounts. SB had been doing that for a while, even before Crank That came out. I know SB fans who knew about him a year before Crank That was big. He marketed himself online very well.
