Fun fact! That high note at 45:03 is Jin. He was asked to come to the recording studio by the producer to scream. As high as possible. And that’s the result! Hahahah And yes, Dionysus is super hyped live, it was their opening song for their tour and the closing song to a lot of award shows!

RM has talked about how he prefers for their music to be consumed from start to finish, and how they don’t necessarily want to follow popular practices (eg. making shorter songs to increase the amount of streams). He prefers to make complete songs/albums that are designed to be a cohesive body of work, not just short individual pieces.

You’ll notice a lot of “call and response” in their songs bc there’s this thing called ‘fan chants’ in kpop where fans will sing/shout certain things/parts of the song during a live performance which makes the song much more interactive for the fans. Or at least in my opinion that’s why they do it
@jormarques
@jormarques 3 жыл бұрын
yeah in mikrokosmos mainly, from what we get on Namjoon's live talking about the making of the album, it was a song made for concerts, and it really played the biggest part in the end of the Speak Yourself Tour, everyone cried in my day lol

You're right; it's also similar to the style called arena/stadium rock that hit big in the US in the 70s. Songs specifically built for large audience play, structured so they could be easily extended if the musicians got into it, ample space for crowd participation, etc. He mentioned aerosmith earlier as a comparison, they're a prime example of stadium rock

This is why I think Jamais Vu was genius. You keep thinking "is it a key change? Is it not?" And it's supposed to sound familiar, you feel like you should recognize it, but you don't. And that's exactly what "Jamais Vu" as a feeling is! It's being faced with something that SHOULD be familiar to you but you don't really recognize.

I always loved jamais vu since I usually hear things others don't. It's just beautiful how they make music. I have continuously reviewed bts songs so objectively and that's why I can probably write a 10000 words essay defending their craft if not a book. It's one thing to be musically gifted and it's another to have the talent called dynamics. Alot of artists are talented but most of the time it feels as though they are in their head. That's why it's very good to collaborate with different song writers, producers and composers as it don't just create dynamics for the songs which they helped produce but also it creates dynamics in the artist's craft, taste and understanding of music as well as rhythm.

Bangtan is life you don’t have to add an emoji or a ‘lol’, it was the way it was written. I won’t lie I have a bad attitude so personally I take everything that people talk to me in an attitude which is how I developed my attitude because I always thought people were talking to me with an attitude. The way you wrote your comment can be read as “Well good for you! 😁😊” or “well good for you.. 🙄” and I took it the second way. I’m sorry that I took it that way, yes it is an assumption but you can’t really tell someone’s meaning or way of what they are saying through a screen, I apologise for offended and hurting you. I didn’t mean too, that was just the way I took it. I shouldn’t have just assumed your right, I should’ve ask what way you meant it before replying. Anyway, this probably seems like a “oh that person isn’t taking any responsibility for there actions and just wants to move on with a quick apology and doesn’t care.” Thing, but I just don’t want this to turn into a huge fight which has happened before because of my assumptions and when I try to explain they don’t understand and try to ‘fight’ me. So I apologise, pleas forgive me. This never happened okay? Lest move on maturely pleas. So who is your bias? (BTS)

i don't know if someone already told you this, but along with the help of other respectable producers, songwriters and composers, BTS write and produce their own music! BTS is a group of talented musicians, they put a lot of passion into learning new instruments and creating heartfelt songs. by taking part in the creative process, they bring sincerity to their music, which is why lyrics play an important role in their music. for example RM, the leader of the group and the rapper from Intro: Persona, was credited for over 160 songs as a songwriter and composer; Suga was credited for over 100 songs as a songwriter and composer; J-hope has written over 100 songs (including their solo projects). In recent years, even the other members are also actively participating in creative process. Recently V, Jungkook, Jimin and Jin produced their solo songs and achieved many milestones. I thought you might be interested in this since you're a producer 😊

I don't actually know, but I'd guess their song length is more designed for performing than radioplay. They don't try to keep their songs short so that they'll be easily consumed and streamed and played on the radio, but they make them as long as they want to. They are performers, and I think short songs aren't as good if you want to do an outstanding performance. Idk, just my thoughts.

i think you make an interesting point of why their songs are often much longer than a lot of other artists. i think for one, there are seven of them, so a lot more time is needed to properly showcase all of them in one song. and I also feel like they don't write their music for loopability (is that a word? lol) which a lot of artists do nowadays due to the demand for fast entertainment through streaming etc. bts have always focused on their art rather than what makes the most sales or will garner the most streams. i've never thought about that before but I'm glad you pointed that out.

their title tracks are tho (“loopable” like you said lol). i mean they don’t get radioplay in the west bc xenophobia (a shame really) but you can bet their songs would be playing non-stop in South Korea like a pop song would get played in the US. they do experiment more w their b-sides tho (: as for the duration of the songs it’s probably bc they want every member to get a bit of spotlight and they do have different sections for the raps and vocals, so that’s probably it.

Funny you mention how Dionysus is really hype live because this song was actually the opening song for their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself tour concerts! On top of the song itself already being hype asl, BTS pour in so much energy into the opening performance, it did an amazing job of setting the tone for their concerts

I think one of the reasons to why their songs are longer is bc they usually have to add three rap verses (since there are three rappers) while also add verses for the vocal line since they don't only sing the choruses. I feel like that's also a reason why groups who have even more members usually have more of an unfair line distribution/give very short parts to certain members.

The person who is doing the high note in Dionysus is the same one doing the low notes just before the chorus, that's how big his vocal range is. Btw you should see a performance of Dionysus because this is one of their best performance ever and one of the best performances to ever exist in general. They be doing very dangerous and acrobatic stuffs like falling on the floor and jumping and rolling on badass ancient greek moving tables and chairs in an ancient greek set and outfits. Like i knew those guys were strong and all but this is next level, everyone would hurt himself doing those things. And THE FACT THAT THEY DO IT WITH STABLE LIVE VOCALS TOO is inhuman. All BTS members have 3 lungs because there's no way. They are the best performers in this generation, I can't name ONE artist that can be compared to their performance quality except maybe Michael Jackson or Beyonce. Best performers group in history.

Id like to point out a thing that is really cool and interesting about BTS is that lately they have been travelling back and revisiting their old works. In this case, Map of the Soul PERSONA is a revisit to their third full album in 2014, Skool Luv Affair. There are parallels between the title tracks, Boy with Luv and their earlier track, Boy in Luv. Its kind of trend in BTS’ music to tell a tale of growth and development to mirror their aging as a group and the collective aging of their fans. Their message since then has shifted from issues in the schooling curriculum (the album O!RUL82? ) to puberty, angst and hormonal conflicts (hence, Skool Luv Affair’s boy in luv) to a discovery of youth (the most beautiful moment of life pt. 1 and 2) to a series of trials unfolding the concept of love to others and oneself (love yourself series: her, tear, answer) to then, the journey of uncovering the map of the soul and the human psyche’s complexes, which flows from the an epiphany to start loving oneself (hence Boy with Luv). Boy with Luv can take many intepretations, along with its alternative title of ‘a poem for small/trivial things’ as it can be taken as the acceptance of loving oneself or a love song for ARMY which BTS themselves have specified. What im also trying to get at is that BTS have sampled their old music as well looking at the old-school vibe of the instrumental and vocal sample in intro:persona, is actually from the come ack trailer (teaser) for their Skool Luv Affair album. BTS’ artistry and music is super calculated and in depth so im definitely not doing it justice with paragraph. Just wanted to share a bit of information on the creation of this album and BTS’ discography.

I've been listening to the comments about call and response, building tension, etc. I never really knew how to explain any of it except to say that their style in pretty much every song makes me feel like we are having a conversation. Like we are sitting down together and having this rich, satisfying, reflective, DEEP conversation. Even with songs that are more geared to be upbeat and energetic in a different way, you feel like your hanging out with your friends, just jamming, singing and dancing. I don't speak or understand Korean but they have discovered a way musically to still reach you and draw you into the conversation. I just "discovered" these guys about 8 months ago and I am totally taken with their music! So, it's great to have someone explain in a more technical way what I've actually been hearing. It's no wonder I am hooked (and they use loads of those)!

This is the first album were all of the members had a solo song, so you’ll also get a chance to really hear their individual styles Also: the high note at the end that you really liked was done by Kim Seokjin. He said they asked him to yell into the mic and he was surprised they added it to the album 😂 It’ll be really cool if you reacted to their live performance of Dionsys, because the song hits you that much harder when you see the choreo for it. Either way, I really enjoy your content, thank you.

(they are also known to always sing live and with no autotune so some songs that use autotune sound different live)

I would adore seeing you react to a live performance. Their performances are so multifaceted that its kind of insane. If you want to watch what is considered by many to be their best live performance check out the 2019 MMA (not MAMA which is good but not quite as grandiose and is split into two parts). It's from an award show ,which gets really hard to remember part way through with how crazy it is, and is 40 minutes long but its so entertaining it goes by so quickly. You've heard all the songs they perform except for one (an old song from 2014 called Boy in Luv) and a few songs that have remixed snippets included in the performance. They close the show with Dionysus so you'd get to see just how right you are about how hype that performance can get. The 2018 MMA performance is also one I'd highly recommend and you've heard most of the songs for that one as well, just having not heard the closing song Idol which is on the album Love Yourself: Answer
