It's not so much that they had to grow up, it's that they were forced to. The song is a commentary on their situation with Fantagio and the helplessness they felt, drowning in bureaucracy. The rest of the mini album harkens back to their cute concepts and speaks both to Arohas (the fandom) that left during their hiatus and those that stayed; This is probably the most personal comeback they've ever had.

people are trying to come for the mv, but look at pdnim, A WHOLE PRODUCER, going on about this mv. astro and the producers did an AMAZING job considering the fact that fantagio is still in a mess. the whole message of the rise up mini album is about how scared they were about fantagio going under, hence the ‘drowning’ concept in the mv, about how scared they were of possibly having to disband due to the company’s financial and legal issues. fantagio could still be operating illegally, fantagio could still possibly go under, but astro really came back hard with rise up. that’s also why i think they DIDN’T do a cute concept; the message they wanted to get across in this is really serious and they couldn’t do that with a cute cb. i’m really proud of astro and i hope they keep fighting !!

this is a mature comeback bc of the fantagio situation, it shows how the members are feeling. i’m going to explain the best i can so sorry if this comment is really long, also sorry for any typos i may make! to make a long story short there’s some issues with who is in charge of fantagio at the moment and they have to be really careful with what they do in case they violate any rules, etc etc. for the longest time astro were threatened with disbandment and they still are a small bit but not as much. astro wrote the lyrics to this song, and when you put it into context of the fantagio situation the song is so powerful. english translations to some of the parts are (translations from color coded lyrics): - “i shed tears out of fear that we won’t see each other anymore” - “with the faith of you waiting for me though it was hard, i swallowed my tears and went to you” - “you told me not to worry no matter what happens” - “are you still there? in these times that were hard to endure” - “though i’m late, i came to you” - “my heart ached because i couldn’t hold you” - “i know you’ve waited for me too, my heart ached because we couldn’t touch” the “you” in the song is aroha (astro’s fans): so many of the lyrics show their fear of not being able to make music and see the fans anymore. the lyrics also show the fear of the boys that they will have lost a lot of fans due to the long hiatus between crazy sexy cool and always you. it’s truly heartbreaking but this song is so powerful especially when put into context of everything that’s going on with their company. okay, enough gushing about the song! please support this comeback so we can show the boys that even though we had to wait for the new song it’s okay and we still love them :D

im sure im not the first to say this but astros comeback was super super important to aroha! after the issues with their company this was their first comeback. astro lost a lot of fans because they couldnt be there for aroha. they wrote lyrics and did their best in the new album and it is for aroha :) it feels really lovely to have them back... they wrote many of their feelings about missing aroha (and maybe youll think i and other aroha are silly but i think there is truly a very special bond between astro and aroha). anyway, they did post the performance cut today just a few hours before you posted this and it is just as amazing as it is in the mv (plus another scene)! its on their youtube channel so definitely check it out if you get the chance! keep being awesome ♡

Thanks for reacting!This MV and the whole feel of Astro's "Rise Up" album is very unique for the group in that they've tackled a more serious concept compared to their previous comeback. That's mostly due to the fact that Astro (and JinJin in particular) actually worked with the producers to write the lyrics for this album during their long hiatus when their future as Astro was uncertain. Their company went through a lot of financial and managerial difficulties (which still aren't fully resolved), and for a time there were concerns about the label collapsing and the groups under it being forced to disband. The song is both an apology for being away for so long, a reassurance that they still want to be Astro, and a lament for the fans they lost or disappointed along the way. Astro recently explained in their own words that this song in particular was a confession of how they felt during that time, "It was so hard"/ "I wasn't okay", and the fear they felt over losing fans due to not being able to release music "Are you still there?".

The first time I heard this song. I felt so sad. Its like they are telling me a sad story. And when I found the english translation, that’s when I fully understand that they are longing.

great video! Always You is my favourite Astro song and I never picked up on the subtler aspects of the video the way you did. This was fascinating and made me enjoy the mv much more!

considering that they were able to produce this after the whole mess is enough. a lot of us weren't really expecting anything and so it's really sentimental to us,,, it might not be the greatest but it's more than a song to us^^

I think that given the current Fantagio situation, it makes sense that the song sounds like this... But I agree that it is a little underwhelming because of their previous concept. I like it like this too, but I would prefer something along the lines of their previous works.

I fell in love with this song within the first few seconds of hearing it, and I'm still obsessed with it honestly. I think it might be because it was something different from ASTRO, they've had kind of darker songs in the past a few times, but there was something that felt very raw and personal, especially with the situation with their company. Vocally, it was different, with Rocky singing this time around, which I also really enjoyed, and I loved the chorus a lot. It may not be the most unique song, but I'm so glad they were able to put out something so good under so much stress regardless!

You know what I find even more amazing, they had 3 weeks to make this song, choreography, and basically everything before releasing it to the public. I think the choreography was made the day before the video ( although if that's wrong, somebody please correct me ).

Astro was my first kpop group, without them I wouldn't be part of anything kpop related...that being said. This song and every song on the album was everything for myself and many other Aroha. The lyrics are so beautiful. It truly is their song to Aroha (excluding You & Me). Alot of Aroha did leave but for those who stayed...this was everything for us.

This is one of my favorite songs because this is made especially for Aroha.

Now that you mentioned it, I feel like the constant moving lights could symbolize time passing by (somewhat like how the light of the sun rises and falls) since they've been on hiatus for a long time and there is nothing they can do about it. At some parts, they were even looking up, as if longing for something or reminiscing past memories with their loved one (a.k.a arohas).

I love how the pd notices the little stuffs and details.

this MV was what got me into Astro, still very new to the fandom but I'm just blown away by how talented they are

I've thought that too...like I stan Astro, but this song isn't like...a song I'd like to listen to on repeat[compared to Crazy Sexy Cool & Baby] but the vocals & the maturity of the concept really caught me in.

I used to sing quite a lot and somehow this is Astro's song with the most fascinating vocal arrangement for me. Almost all vocal/rap parts are multi-layered, with some surprising notes on some parts. I think the mixing/mastering are pretty good too as these voices blend nicely. I'd probably buy one if they made the choir music sheet for this one. Would love to try singing it. Haha

This song honestly reminds me of Again of of their Winter special album which they didnt have a mv for (its also the other album they didnt promote on music shows). I feel like the albums they promote on music shows have the cute concepts.

I really enjoy this era, and it’s such a shame that they aren’t promoting this on music shows at all. But I’m glad they can all work on solo stuff. I’m glad they put something out because it’s been too long 😭💛

As soon as I watched this music video I really wanted to hear your thoughts on it. It’s simple but the execution is INCREDIBLE, I haven’t seen camerawork and lighting and a set that so perfectly accentuates emotion and really creates a mood like in this music video, in a long time. It’s not just about the aesthetics. The shifting light, running in slow motion, the use of repetition in patterns creates this feeling of moving and trying to get somewhere but you don’t, you just repeat the same things over and over. I LOVE IT SO MUCH. As for the song, I can see why it would be like any other EDM song but I guess bc Astro haven’t done it before, they bring a new flavour for me :D I loved the song from the first notes, maybe because for me even if it’s EDM i love dramatic cinematic songs. And since CSC was already heading in a more mature route, I was anticipating a not-so-cute song and so I love this comeback (every other song on their album is dope too)

I am glad they are moving on from cute, they will always be able to do it, but I enjoy that they are trying new things.

I feel like I finally understood the music video, with your help. They're all always in slow motion, but the light keeps changing, it's like time is going by but they're not progressing at all. Sanha is in a car and it already has so much foliage inside because he's been stuck there for too long. The hall with arches, it feels like a loop or a never ending hallway almost that you can't get out of but Rocky tried to run from it, but it just pulled him back to where he started/rewinded him back. The dance part, is like their dream, it's inside of them, it's very very powerful but they can't let it out because they're all helplessly stuck from where they are. That room where they're just waiting while days pass. And the opening scene where it looks like he's drowning in deep water. Yup helpless. Oh also, when Eunwoo, started to play the music on the phonograph, Rocky ran, it's like music is their escape from the loneliness of being sort of abandoned, and then the dance line started dancing intensely, but also with a blank face. I just think that's really cool. Dang, thinking about what happened then with Fantagio, this makes so much sense.

The mv has so much hidden meaning and metaphors for their crisis. The lyrics are heartbreaking and full of emotion but once you break down the mv it only adds salt to the wound

The thing about this song, is that it's in the style of quite a lot of their b side songs; they've done songs like this before but they've always been b side songs

I feel like a lot of people feel let down by the song, but considering the time frame they had to produce this it's actually rly higj quality. Most of it was finalised in a couple weeks, with the dance being totally completed only a couple days before the mv filming!! That + the lyrics (and the mini album as a whole) has a much deeper meaning relating to Astro and Aroha. For us, this comeback means so much bc we 'lost' our boys for a bit, we're just grateful we can meet again, that's the most important point

I really like the way PD is making the videos lately, when he's commenting on interesting aspects of the mv the part he's talking about plays, so we can see what he noticed, it helps a lot and makes this commentary section of the reaction easier to watch.
