Even in the song "All of you", "I may not be as strong but I'm getting wiser Yeah, I need sunlight and fertilizer" the line of Luisa and Isabela sounds pretty much like Frozen 2's, "Some things never change"..."Peter Pumpkin just became fertilizer And my leaf's a little sadder and wiser", looks the same actually the last words of both lines are just switched, the tempo is a bit slower in "Some things never change". 👍

Please allow me to explain something real quick which will make the video even more meaningful. The yellow butterfly represents the mysticism and magic in Colombian literature, started by Gabriel García Márquez with his iconic book "Cien años de soledad" which granted him the Nobel prize of Literature. The yellow butterfly represents Colombia and we see them everywhere throughout the movie. Encanto is truly a love letter to Colombia from begging to end 🦋

It was actually Sebastián Yatra’s idea to sing an English version as well. LMM kept procrastinating on the translation until one of the Disney music producers finally told him he didn’t have to translate “oroguitas” and “mariposas”.
@alyssavanhouten
@alyssavanhouten 2 жыл бұрын
The butterfly is such a deep concept throughout the film. Abuela was cocooned and “in waiting” all of those years in her grief. Mirabel (in the spirit of her abuelo) helped her realize that she had lost sight of his sacrifice, and only then did both of the caterpillars find peace as butterflies in different realms. Abuela had to step forward in this world “apart but always together” with abuelo in spirit. Truly profound & deeply moving 🐛 🦋

This song is the heart of the story of the film, but it's not as popular because of the language barrier. I do think technically We Don't Talk About Bruno is better, but with Disney submitting this for the Oscar, that a non-English song from the animated feature films get to win Best Song. The symbolism of the yellow mariposa connecting to Gabriel Garcia Marquez's magical realism in 100 Years of Solitude, playing while they show Pedro having to sacrifice himself to protect his family from the armed conflict in Colombia, always makes me cry. It's beautiful and sung so well.

I love the reaction to Dos Oruguitas. As a Colombian it males me so proud to watch the Encanto. the entire movie have so much significant representation of Colombia. The Yellow Butterflies are among the many symbols of Colombia. The Yellow Butterflies first appeared on the book by the Colombian writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez in 100 year of solitude. Novel prize winner for that book. This is why you see soo many butterflies in Encanto.

I had never actually picked up on that musical connection between this and The Little Mermaid's song Under the Sea. And yes it makes so much sense given that it's Lynn Manuel Miranda's favourite Disney Song. Also yes this is definitely a song that has so many layers of meaning where you gradually see more and more depth in the lyrics and the this part of the story and the story as a whole every time you listen to it. Lynn's said that he wrote this song as if it's a traditional folk song of the area of Colombia that the story is set. I tend to think of it as the special song they shared as a couple. Almost that is Pedro's song for his wife and their growing family.

Lin named his first son Sebastian, that's how much he loved TLM and Under the Sea in particular!! Also, as others have said, the song in Spanish is so much more poetic and tied to the symbolism of the movie. It still talks about the caterpillars falling in love and having to separate to grow, but it better describes their journey into the chrysalis, and then how breaking that chrysalis and becoming butterflies is a miracle unto itself. Miracles are of course a big theme of the movie, which is represented by butterflies, like you saw in the candle. So, the Spanish lyrics really tie everything together in a beautifully poetic and romantic way!!!

Awesome reaction. I have listened to this beautiful song a thousand times and still couldn't catch the Under the Sea reference. Lin said that Dos Oruguitas might be the best song he has every written, so it just makes sense that his favorite song and his best song match in some kind of way. The fact that Lin loves Under the Sea so much that his son is named Sebastian, and the singer of Dos Oruguitas is indeed named Sebastián, is the absolute cherry on top. You gained a new sub! ✨

Actually, the English version is NOT a faithful translation of the Spanish lyrics... And though they did a nice work, putting together an English version that makes sense, I admit the Spanish version is both more faithful to the movie and more emotionally and symbolically intense, IMHO. Speaking both English and Spanish, one can appreciate the differences... To me, the Spanish version has even deeper meaning, and touches deeper strings. But I couldn't explain "why and how" in words, or at least not on this medium. :-) Loved your Encanto reactions though. One thing I noticed is that most "voice coach" or "musician" reactions are so based on music and tend to overlook the meanings and symbolism and analogies with real life... You didn't, and I appreciate it. Thank you.

I agree, the Spanish version connects on a deeper level and always makes me cry from how beautiful and sad it is. My favorite line from the Spanish version is missing from the English version... It tends to happen that when a song is translated, some of the intricacies can't be kept. You either lose some meaning in the lyrics or have to sacrifice on the rhymes and stresses. It's the same when listening to the English songs in other languages (I for example watched the movie in German).
@DavideBaroni
@DavideBaroni Жыл бұрын
@@leonpgut You're absolutely right, and it doesn't happen only in songs but in every translation. 🙂 I'm Italian, and am a certified translator for English, Spanish and Portuguese, so I tend to read the books that were originally written in one of those languages in their original version. Sometimes it's a different universe. Try reading the "Don Quijote" in Spanish and you'll see what I mean 😉. I read the Lord of the Rings in original, and it's been quite a challenge, but I'm happy I did. And believe me, the Italian translation is EXCELLENT (the old one, at least... Now the editor withdrew all the remaining copies of that version and put out a new one with a different translation, "in a more modern language", which is a total failure 🙄), but it took SEVEN YEARS to be made, and by a person of noble family and high education, or all the "high languages' forms" spoken in the various Courts would have been lost. So I'm not amazed that this happened. I was just pointing out that there are "differences that can make a difference". Just to stay in the "Encanto" context... at the end, when Mirabel puts the new doorknob on the door of the newly rebuilt Casita, Abel says to her: "Open your eyes... What do you see?", and she answers "I see me... All of me". In Italian it's been translated with "I see me... Just me". In terms of meaning, it's a totally different thing! 🙂

For us Colombians that song hit us so hard due it reflects the very violent history of #Colombia for well over a century. Everything show in the song is true... Yellow is a sign of good luck for us, the colorful river exist, the forcibly displaced people are counted in over 8 millions, among other thing show into the song.

The river of colors at the end exists in Colombia, and is called the "river of 8 colors"

When my girlfriend showed me this music I found the initial verses really similar to My Way from Frank Sinatra, and then the chorus I actually thought it was similar to Under the Sea! Funny to see you talking about it. Btw, found you through your Encanto videos and I really like the way you express yourself. You got a new fan here! Greetings from Portugal!
