Yeah, 1. You sound choice may cause it, sometimes the drum pack you use are already compressed, so you can just do a light process and eq and balance up each instrument volume

2. May be your volume level of each instrument is too loud and hot and are already picking, just bring all the volume down, set the volume without any effect, make sure the whole volume is picking at -6 then start adding you effect and make you are putting those sound back at the volume u have placed them initially

If you bring down your release that much when side chaining, doesn’t it distort your kick? If I use a fast release my kick begins to distorts Or is it dependent on the kick sample?

It’s all about what you hear. If it distorts then you adjust. But in my case it didn’t distort
