Just wanted to say I watched a ton of videos looking for a bag and this video sold me. I have never seen a designer take so much time to elaborate on all of the little decisions that add up to a great experience. I just received my 25L green and it is a great looking and more importantly great feeling bag to wear. Kudos to you and your team!

Appreciate all the thoughts behind the Shimoda backpacks and improvements in the design based on customer feedback, making them stand out from the other brands. The spirit deserves every entrepreneur to learn from.

My seemingly never-ending search for the perfect camera backpack came to an abrupt end exactly 2 weeks ago when the Amazon delivery person dropped off my new v2 black 25L at my doorstep. This fine piece of gear is absolutely incredible in every aspect. It even stands up on its own and doesn’t have that camera-gear backpack look to it it - minor details that most bags fail to incorporate. It’s a very classy (but definitely rugged) design that is completely appropriate for the mountains or an urban environment. The bag is not cheap but if you appreciate fine quality you will forget all about the cost. I see myself using this bag for years to come. Ian, you guys hit a grand slam with this bag. Thank you!

Congratulations on the launch, you've done a sterling job of communicating which has helped me in deciding not only to back the bag, but also in which is best suited to my needs. The green and brown pallete is fetching, reminiscent of Barbour's iconic jackets, which employ waterproof fabrics in shades of greens with shades of brown leather, one alteration i would consider in a V3 is switching to brass coloured zippers to complement the brown leather in both green and black bags, which would really set the outdoor/urban chic look off, and further differentiate with the X series.

Watched your video, and a few others, and placed an order with you. Watched a few more videos and now wish I had it overnighted. Very excited to to travel to Switzerland. I ordered the 35 and I am a dual Canon 5dm3 traveler.

This bag is really well thought out. Might be my next travel bag. Please consider these changes in the next version: 1) The compression straps should be removable just like the accessory straps, with G hooks. Then if I'm not using the compression straps, they don't dangle. 2) The side bottle pouches would be neater if they were just bigger versions of the shoulder strap bottle pocket design. A straight zipper that reveal an elastic expandable pouch. 3) Would rather the rain cover be sold separately with more color options like a matching green/black 4) Bigger rear access opening so I can fit a 16" laptop in the 25L bag. I would sacrifice the 3-size adjustable straps feature for a larger rear opening. Or just have the rear zipper go around the straps. The straps could be held under 2 flaps like the peak design travel bag, keeping the straps out of the way when not in use. 5) More transparent mesh material. It's still too hard to see inside the mesh pockets. 6) Add a tablet sleeve on the laptop sleeve 7) Would love if the removable belt could be used as an expandable waist/sling bag like the pakt backpack has. Adding the top loader is cool, but would be nice to have a smaller built-in option. 8) Need 3 pen pockets for a pen, pencil, stylus I think this would be a solid V3 and would solve my main gripes with the current design. Of couse, you can't please everybody, but maybe some of these are common wishes. This is still probably the most well thought out travel/camera bag out there. Nice job!

What a great bag, Ian! I hope the base handle (REALLY missing this on my X50) and the Aired-Out Harness also comes to the X series v2! Would be sold in a second. :)

What?? The most important feature of this bag is how comfortable it is!!!!! I love my PD bag but i salute to whoever can wear it for more than 2 hours. Its the worst bag for travelling..... This. On the other hand. I can stuff whatever i want onto it and it doesnt hurt. Love it. Thank you for your attention to details.!!!

Hi Ian. On the Kickstarter it shows an internal frame of sorts on the ICUs. Do the bags have an aluminum frame to help move the weight to the hips in conjunction with the hip belt? Is it in all 3 sizes?

Thanks Ian. I LOOOOVE my 25litre. Yes, the handles at either end!, wow, who'd ever think those would be of such benefit. The 25L is hands down the best everyday carry bag for me as it includes on a daily basis: my camera w/ lenses, my 13" MB Air, my iPad Mini 6, clothes, water, etc. I have 2 of the Action Xs, but this bag is daily use, goes EVERYWHERE!!! Incredible bag........

I just bought the V2 25 and this video has really helped me get familiar with all the features. The one thing I don’t really understand is the use of the dividers in the main compartment. Why does one end of the large divider not have Velcro? I have tried numerous configurations to make it work with my Fuji X-H1 and a couple of lenses, and nothing works very well. I love the bag, but I am struggling with configuration.

Oh ! Saw the details of this bag apparently too late for the Kickstarter campaign, after coming back from vacation with my X50. Is there any way to sneek in a pledge for a Explore v2 green (or black for the matter) 30 L ?

hello, fantastic review, definately decided to buy Shimoda Explorer V2. seen the x35 and way to big for me, so going for the x30 version. I'm not sure whether medium or large Mirrorless insert is best suited to the x30. Camera is a Leica SL2 + Vario zoom and spare lens, plus filters. Large version means more camera container but less extra storage for non photo. any advice welcome.

I'm wondering about weight capacity and comfort. Which of the three, or would all three handle 30 lbs of gear comfortably? Even for a day hike. If I put in my full kit with big glass, plus some water and accessories, I'd be at 30 lbs easy.

The one thing that I have my doubts about in this backpack, is the back-panel. How well does it ventilate? what's the material behind the outer stretch layer -- how hard is it and how is it shaped to keep it airing? You almost made perfect bag... What I wish: 1) Regular shoulder straps ( like F-stop Loka UL ) This Shimoda straps are ridiculous (from 1990's ) >>> maybe Shimoda Women's Simple Straps make more sense 2) Colors are nice but it will be great if you offer also Blue Night/Sea Pine like your other bags 3) "Carry on friendly" / not really > 35 l bag is 2kg ( 2.5 kg with core unit ) Many airlines has 7kg limit and some of them are very strict ____ Filter Pocket - are you really gonna risk to put there your $200 CPL filter without plastic case ? ( I guess many people will learn expensive lesson ) As F-stop Loka 37 UL user I really like this Shimoda V2 - 30l is still not too heavy and good size. If you add good looking straps and mentioned colors it could be huge hit ( I know this kind of straps works for some but they should be optional ) Great review and really nice step forward in Photography Backpack design - I may get one for myself
