@DarrenPersad

I quite enjoy the sense of presence and realism I get from the side lit images. It may not be as purely focused on the product as the top lit products, where the environment and shadows are basically eliminated, but the side lighting introduces a sense of scale and depth that makes it very realistic while still maintaining an exceptionally clean aesthetic. That said, I feel like the side lit shots will work better with a slightly more grainy/textured surface, like a dense paper, and with a rich and vibrant color, or very slightly off-white shade. I’ll have to play around with this myself, excellent video!

I been searching everywhere but can't figure out how to get pure white background when taking flat lay clothing photos. I hang my clothes on a white wall but everytime I take the photo with my canon m100 it makes the background bit greyish or something bit of yellow on it. I tried every settings I can think of. Also tried many set up with the lights and flash etc.. Your professional guide will be really approciated Sir. Many thanks. Eva xx
@LaredoMontoneri
@LaredoMontoneri 3 жыл бұрын
First of all consider that by physical law it’s impossible to have a white pure background with the same light you use for the product, because the background is always little bit farter to the flash compare to the product so in order to get it total pure white, you should overexpose (and ruin) the product. Ok now besides this let’s see What are the camera setting? Do you used flash or constant light? If it’s yellowish it. An be that the color balance is not properly set or maybe some natural light spilling in to the photo. Anyway consider that you have to whiten the background in photoshop after that, you can check the other video I did about it. THIS kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7RmfrmiuL2mpJc.html

The reflection is the flash light itself, so the only think you can do is using photoshop. But consider that reflection create a sense of reality and shape the roundness of the item so don't clear it out too much, just make it minimal the way you prefer but leave it to give a sense od shape.

Great tutorial , very useful. I was looking for something like this. I do own a e-commerce business myself and just got some equipment to take pictures of my products. One question though , what is your advice on taking pictures of products that are containing glass surface. For example a motorcycle helmet. Can't clear the background as well because of the visor. Thank you in advance again for this great tutorial and your future advices. Cheers!
@LaredoMontoneri
@LaredoMontoneri 4 жыл бұрын
Glass surface is more tricky to photograph and I think it may need to be address case by case. But in general consider that it reflect what it is in front of it. So sometimes I used to put a white board in front of the lens of camera, then creating a hole where I would put my lens through and shoot from there, so even the reflection of the camera is minimal. and of course having all around the product white boards alternate with some black as you want to create sometime shadow shapes on the product. Hope it helps

It’s an unbrella: the PLM 64” plus the black cover and the white from diffuser. You’ll find on their website under light modifier. And the transmitter is under remotes page. I can see but cannot copy the link from here. For some reason I can’t see your comment on the browser but only on the youtube app

Hello there, Thank you for this tutorial. I’m a photographer and videographer and I’m currently working a lot with Amazon pictures. I was trying to improve my technique to minimize the working time and maximize the quality. What I noticed working like you showed in the video, is that increasing the amount of light from the flash you can have a “brighter” white, so very close to 100% pure as required from Amazon standard. But doing so, you’ll also increase the highlights on the product, making it too bright. So in some cases I’ll create a mask in Photoshop of the product (if it’s not too complicated to sorround) and I decrease the highlights or, if I’m not too happy of the white, I’ll just make a mask of the product and apply a white background layer below the layer of the product, but getting rid of the natural shadow. What do you suggest to have almost 100% pure white background but at the same time keeping a strong colour of the product without highlights? Is the method I previously explained correct? Perdona il messaggio lungo ma mi farebbe piacere confrontarmi con un professionista come te. Un saluto! Yuri

Ciao Yuri, if you got so much work I would use and extra lighting for the background. overexpose all the photo in order to have whiter background it's not a viable option, you should always exposed correctly the product and of course is physical impossible to get pure white with one light if it's the same that lit the product. I have another video where I give tips how to make the background brighter in and easy and fast way. But rather than that if you want to make a fast job you got light the background separately. watch this. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n7RmfrmiuL2mpJc.html

Hey Laredo Montoneri, That was a good demonstration... I feel that the larger light from the side produced crisper edges on the sides of the bottle than the one from the top... what do you think? Love from India

That's a nice observation, That's due to the fact that when you put the light on top it creates more light on the background that eventually bounce a little back to the product so it gives this feeling or being wrapped around by the light. See what I mean? Love from New York

That is a good technique where the top of the product is narrower than the bottom, since the top doesnt cast a shadow. But if the top was wider than the bottom like a drink with a little umbrella, or even the traditional coke bottle shape where the middle tapers in, the middle would be darker and if the top bulge was wider than the bottom it would cast a shadow.
