In this vlog, I talk about what I'm reading and writing for my dissertation in rhet/comp, I have a teaching observation from my advisor, I chat about lesson planning, and I spent quite a bit of time preparing for a conference next week. On the evaluation - remember your advisor can recognize low energy students - he knows it’s not your teaching skills that are making them that way. In fact he gets to see how you work with low energy students which is a lot harder than working with engaged and eager students!! ❤

I’ve been creeping on your videos for a week, and they have been so beneficial to me. I’m a 26-year old finishing my last year of undergrad (BA English with Appalachian Studies minor), and your videos have been so helpful in helping me write my final papers, write my writing sample for grad school applications, and start my reading for my senior thesis. Also, it’s just so nice to absorb “educational” content in this sort of format. Also also, I am so intrigued by your dissertation and your ideas about composition in general!!

I think I need to mix in more reading for fun. So much assigned reading in grad school that the concept of reading for enjoyment is getting lost with me! I think it is great how you fit it into your busy schedule

Thanks so much! It was really hard for me tor read for fun when I was still in coursework, but now that I'm ABD, it's gotten much easier!

I agree that all writing is personal! Do you think that maybe personal writing is an intentional (and more autonomous) disclosure of the self, whereas other writing is an unintentional disclosure?

I just found your channel and I am so intrigued by the classes you teach! I’m a PhD student in chemical engineering, so hearing about topics of research and classes offered in the humanities is so I te resting to me since it’s so outside of my world!

Now that my prospectus has been accepted, I would love some content on how to start actually writing the dissertation (Organization tips, Setting a schedule, staying motivated, etc.).
