Soon, Prof. Brad Mehldau will do another intense learning week with our students on vimeo.com/jazzcampus Basel, this time focusing on the inner works of a band. Before that, he will perform in Zurich’s beautiful Tonhalle on March 28 (only a few seats left).
When he was with us recently, he shared his exceptional focus and flow when he recorded several tracks in our recording studio, while students listened and observed. Under Prof. Daniel Dettwiler’s guidance, the beautiful Steinway piano was recorded in a state-of-the-art manner.

Je suis d'accord. Une musique si vraie et pure. Pour une raison quelconque, votre commentaire m'a rappelé une conversation que j'ai eue avec un musicien à propos de chansons célèbres qui n'ont que 3 ou 4 accords. Il m'a fait part d'un dicton intéressant : « Trois accords, la vérité ». Et puis vous combinez cela avec M. Mehldau et son style d'improvisation. J'aime la façon dont il peut jouer une chanson simple et belle, puis introduire des substitutions et des variations harmoniques très complexes tout en conservant la beauté de la chanson.

Wonderful version of this song. Thanks so much. Also props to the (student?) engineers for the recording. I have been professionally recording pianos for 20 years and this sounds absolutely delicious to me.
