Thank you for the video. I have had these Neocolor 1's for a while and got them for backgrounds in my adult coloring books, and got them about the same time I got my Neo 2's. But I had not found a good solvent. And then I remembered that about six months ago I bought Sennelier Green for Oil Thinner. It works REALLY well, and VERY safe. And much to my surprise the light pigments work on dark after the dark has been dissolved-even on just simple non expensive Neenah Vellum Bristol paper (which has a small bit of texture). Color pencils do not do that without added texture-kinda interesting.

Oh cool!! I haven't tried the Sennelier Green for Oil Thinner, I will have to look into that! I recently did a video where I tested popular thinners on popular brands of colored pencils. I also tested each thinner on the Neocolor l's and was pretty happy with Zest-it colored pencil blend! It worked great on the Neocolor l's. Thank you for watching!!

I was very happy to find your video trying out the Caran D’Ache neocolor 1 and another video on the Neocolor ii! I’m expecting my Neocolor 1’s and the Metallic set today! The largest set, they have now, is 40 and a set of 10 Metallic for the 50 in all. I purchased mine online from Blick’s. There was Portrait set of 10 now discontinued. On Tuesday I received a set of 126 Neocolor ii’s! Sadly, it has been discontinued along with 42 colors. KZfaq, Lindsay Weirich, The Frugal crafter, suggested using a warming plate with the Neocolor 1’s and suggested a foot warmer, with a hard surface, on on Amazon. Mine should arrive Thursday. I can relate about Crayola Crayons! And The crayons had to be Crayola! I loved getting new Crayola crayons 🖍 the start of the school year. Caran D’Ache Palette is great to use with water soluble colors. TJ Max has some thin cutting mats that have the same texture and I’m going to try the Neocolor 1 on that. Have a wonderful day! Fran

Would you need to seal ion a coloring page. Also what do you think about in using them for a bible art journaling page? Bible paper? You were going so fast I couldn’t see exactly what tools for blending. I have a Faber Castell blending pencil would that work? Thankyou
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 7 ай бұрын
The Faber-Castell blending pencil should work fine, I used a combination of a Prismacolor blending pencil and just some regular blending stumps (these and the other materials I used are linked in the description of the video.) They do shed a a little, so, if you are worried about them transferring to the next page in your sketchbook, it may be a good idea to seal them. They don't shed as much as oil pastels, but I'd say they shed a bit more than regular colored pencils. I have never used them on Bible paper, so I can't speak to that. Thank you for watching, I hope this helps!

Nice artwork. 50 colours = 40 + 10 metallic. Also, when you first use white, colours will be lighter. You can also use their own blender stick. I love these wax pastels, and use them together with the Posca Pastels. The Posca Pencils also go great with them, even on top of them. I use these in colouring books, and they go a long way, so in the end, they aren't that expensive. In the future, I would like to try the Neopastel too.

Thank you for your video review! I've looked at both Caran d'Ache's and Dick Blick's site, and both say that the only suspect pigments are both Ultramarines. Highly unusual for Ultramarine, but they use a pigment called Victoria Blue that is fugitive combined with a synthetic Ultramarine blue (which is not very lightfast). I specifically checked the Pink, Salmon, Light Blue and Turquoise, and they all had 3 stars. Btw, try Zest-It wax solvent to blend them.

I actually just finally got some Zest-It a couple weeks ago! I had to order it from Jackson's. I blended a couple swatches of these with it and so far I'm impressed! I will be doing a video featuring Zest-It soon! As far as lightfastness goes, that's interesting! I went according to Caran D'Ache's color chart, which I linked in the description. I don't remember the specifics now though. I'm glad you liked the video, thanks for watching!

@CautionArtistatPlay

Thank you! These are much closer to what you would think of when you picture a Crayola crayon than they are oil pastels, they are harder and way less creamy/greasy than oil pastels. So, they stay where you put them and don't smear the way an oil pastel would.

@@CautionArtistatPlay So I tried it out, and yes the lavender spike oil really melts the wax well - but - I am using it on a mixed media paper and I don’t know if the paper is instantly absorbing it? Or if it’s almost evaporating. It works very well for literally seconds no matter how many layers of wax you put down. If you’ve never used the lavender spike oil - I am using Chelsea studio - it is very strong. Even when I am oil painting I mostly use Liquin because the smell of the lavender is SO strong it burns my eyes. Even the Liquin fumes don’t compare. Basically, you might be ok with it? But I personally don’t know if I would use it with the medium with any regularity.

Yes, you saw that correctly, I was using a colorless blending pencil. It's not too bad, I had to use it a bit heavier here because of the texture of the paper, but on smoother paper, it doesn't need to be used as heavily or as often.

I'm sorry, I didn't understand, what is lightfast that you were saying about the ones upside down? What do you mean by saying they were fugitives?
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 2 жыл бұрын
Lightfastness refers to how quickly the color will fade when exposed to light. Fugitive refers to a color that will fade faster than the rest. Some colors will last for over 100 years and others may only last less than a year. Lightfast ratings tell us which ones will last the longest. I turned the ones that will last the least amount of time upside down so I don't use them in work I plan to sell. It's good to look at lightfast ratings, especially when selling your work so that you can be sure that your artwork won't fade.

What does “lightfast” & “fugitive” mean..?
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 2 жыл бұрын
Lightfast refers to how fast a color will fade when exposed to light. The more lightfast something is the less chance it has of fading over time. Fugitive refers to a pigment that isn't lightfast, meaning it fades really quickly. Very important information to have when selling artwork so people aren't paying for art that is just going to fade. Most artist brands supply lightfast ratings for their supplies so you know which colors will fade quickly and which won't.

Okay, one more question about these crayons (I promise 🫣). You know that I deal with chronic pain. That’s why I am Very interested in these crayons. My ultimate dream is to draw hyperrealistic portraits in colour. I am trying for a while now and I found it really, really hard. It’s a bit discouraging to be honest. I know that I can set the bar very high for myself. With graphite I started right away with portraits and worked very well. I heard you say to start with drawing things from nature. Did you mean that as a sort of step; like a learning-curve to create portraits in the future? I hope you will create courses someday. I’d love to learn from you as an artist 😁
@CautionArtistatPlay
@CautionArtistatPlay 10 ай бұрын
It's no trouble at all, I don't mind answering your questions! You can definitely draw things from nature as a step towards portraiture! I like drawing things from nature because it's low pressure because nothing in nature is perfect, so if one leaf in a tree is a bit off, no one will know the difference. But if you work in a concentrated way, it will definitely help your overall drawing skills. Any kind of drawing that trains your eye to see what's actually there rather than what you think is there will help! Drawing fruit can help, too, because it will help you learn form. And some fruit has a similar texture to skin. As far as using these crayons, you may want to look into the Neocolor ll crayons. They are just like these but blend out with water! I think those would be a better fit for someone with chronic pain. They offer more colors in the Neocolor ll line as well, and since they are water-soluble, they cover larger areas faster. They work as a great base for other things, like colored pencils. I am thinking about starting a Patreon soon, if I can garner enough interest for it! If and when I do, there will be longer form lessons on there!
