Fun fact about Herlock Sholmes from Great Ace Attorney: He's a talented violinist, but also incredibly scatterbrained. During one of the cases, he manages to accidentally swap out his Stradivarius for a cheap viola and never notices this until other characters point it out to him-- he just thought it sounded terrible because he lost his muse!

The Elden Ring guy is playing a Ravanhattha! The technique exactly matches how you would play one, and the instrument itself looks like an oversized or very large version. It has a membrane resonator like erhu but is otherwise very different.

The medic from TF2(Team Fortress 2) also uses his Bonesaw as a violin, but unfortunately it's just a taunt that lasts very little... but he also plays an accordion with a taunt called: Surgeon's Squeezebox

Really cool video! I think the Elden Ring was the best one. Actual finger animation is hard to do but they did it well! Then again, the motion capture is just OP and an excellent use of resources! Was fun to see you grade these!

if you ever do a sequel, violette from one step from eden is a amazing one that i am surprised that she is not here. the music she plays is the big gimmic for her fight, as her attacks get faster and slower in time to the music.

I didn't think of it as I didn't listen to it for more than 2 seconds. I was more concerned with violin animation and the art style simply didn't make it possible to see.

Aww, I was hoping you'd review Marie in the animated cutscenes for Rhythm Thief's! The actual gameplay does leave much to be desired, haha For the cutscenes, I remember reading they put extensive effort into them. If I remember correctly, they motioned-captured a violinist onto a 3D model, then hand-drew 2D animation on-top of or based on the 3D models. Great video!

The kid of Castlevania 64 is named Malus* aka Dracula (spoilers) - I was actually waiting for his appearence in your vid because I like that tune. Everytime I start up the game I´m listening before hitting the start-button. *malus is latin for "something bad" As for my thoughts about the performances, well I´m not a violist so who am I to judge? That´s in the (litterally) hands of professionals. ;)

With the comparatively more limited and simple animation of Ska Studios' games, Yuki from the Dishwasher: Vampire Smile wouldn't rank very high here. The Elden Ring merchant is grotuesqely beautiful. Your amazed reaction to it was very nice.

Regardless of quality, the Wii Musician is certainly the one most excited to be here. Look at that little guy play! Such a vibe. I have a quick question because Sholmes appeared. In the story, he falls into a depression because he unknowingly swaps his Stradivarius with a viola at a pawn shop. So he spends the morning assuming something is wrong with his violin. Is there a monumental difference between playing a viola and a violin?

The viola is way heavier, thicker, and longer. Also differently tuned. It's drastically noticable for the user.

(Spoilers for OMORI) The thing about Sunny in OMORI, is that he was/is a beginner. He was a kid who had a toy violin who wanted to play a regular violin to be with his sister who was super into music, and his friends bought him one for Christmas. He played said violin for 9-10 months (the final photo in the photo album is dated Sept 22, and it says the recital was going to be "in a few weeks"), and then quit the violin. This cutscene you are seeing, is happening in his dreams 4 years later. So.... picture a kid who plays a violin for 9 months, with tutor and all... quits for 4 years, and then picks a violin up again. I think it's reasonable that his form and posture are going to be terrible. He can barely remember how to properly play it. And it's happening inside of a dream anyhow. As for piece accuracy, again, dream. It's happening in a dream, and also, they are using RPGMaker as an engine, pretty sure the cutscenes are filmed in like 5 frame stop motion or something like that. The fact they have _any_ cutscene at all is amazing given the engine.
