He was not "accused of"... he was "convicted for" spying! He should have served his sentence, period!
@djjdnewyork15 ай бұрын
He was *not* convicted, friend---he agreed to a plea bargain. Don't mean to nit-pick---yes, he confessed to spying. But your comment was literally all about the accuracy of the verbiage---and it was inaccurate.
@photo_n_art5 ай бұрын
@@djjdnewyork1 A guilty plea is an admission of guilt, while a no contest plea means that the defendant is not contesting the charge. The result is largely the same, since the defendant will have a conviction on their record either way... So technically he WAS convinced

I don't disagree with the substance of your post or your analysis on this point--it just seemed that you were harping on verbiage, so I thought I'd do same! But you're correct. (I do disagree w/ your premise---i.e., that Pollard should have served an actual life sentence...which strikes me a bonkers. Look at so-called "Chelsea" Manning, who served a whole seven years. Like, give me a break.)

No, he completed his parole. When the five years were up and he had met all requirements, they had to release him. The question at the end was would Biden's handlers be able to stop him from leaving the country. I do not see how as he paid his debt to society. He received more time than those who spied for unfriendly countries.

@@piesusan17 He MAY have served more time than those who’d spied for other countries, BUT the US was & is supposed to be Israel’s “best friend.” What kind of country spies on & divulges highly classified info on its “best friend” FFS?

@@djh7087 All countries spy on each other. We spy on Israel. Don't be naive. His case became politicized. If not, he would not have gotten such a harsh sentence. However, he admitted he was wrong and served the time and is free now. The debt to society was paid.

@@piesusan17 Yes, all countries spy on one another. However, Pollard is an American born citizen. There's a name for that in the US: treason. The US and the UK are currently persecuting & torturing Julian Assange, who it NOT a US citizen, not yet convicted under The Espionage Act for something far less. As to Pollard's "harsh sentence" he had one of the best criminal defense attorneys in the US representing him. Perhaps his sentence was intended to send a message to potential future spies - as a deterrent. Finally, he is being hailed as an outright "hero" by the Israeli government - the government for which he was committing treason. Given the amount of money we have spent over the last few decades, and the astounding diplomatic cover & protection the US provides Israel - shameful.

All similar cases saw those who "spied" released in just a few years, they were all similar cases. Mr Pollard was an exception treated unfairly and unjustly compared to others. His information was if critical nature to world peace and security. He was horrifically abandoned and mistreated by Israel and the United States. Unjustifiable and unacceptable.
