Snape was infintely worse in the books. In the movies, even in the first few, he just came off as a strict teacher. But in the books he came off like he GENUINELY hated potter and was straight up evil towards him.

The reason why snape leaves the door open is because in the cauldron was dry ice, the fog it produces is toxic and by leaving the door open it prevents the fog from building up in the room. Source: 5 minuten harry potter podcast from coldmirror (german youtuber)
