A leader as much in control of himself as in commanding others fits the Shepherd model of Leadership more than tyranny.

Braveheart demonstrates the difference between the tyrannical figure vs a true leader. That authority in itself isn't awful. Otherwise, society would crumble without any sort of boundaries. Also, rest in peace to my father. He passed away not too long before father's day. He believed in righteous authority as a part of national security. He is also the main source of why I value fatherhood in our lives and culture. And I plan to be just as good a father to my kid as he was for me.

It's why I hope a revival of characters like John Carter by E.R. Burroughs could be great way to promote positive masculinity. The problem with authority in the modern day is simply that so many are unfit to lead. Left, right, center or sideways, there is selfishness, decadence, miscomprehensions about the way the world works. In the vacuum left by the scrubbing of positive role models, you get people trying to find masculinity in the digital crackerjack box of "alpha males" or who completely give up and give into their worst selves. And then there's John Carter, a strong, athletic veteran, willing to fight for what he believes in, but who also understands the value of compassion and kindness in a world where such virtues are nonexistent. A man who isn't above being moved to tears by the dedication of his beasts, and who embodies an unashamed romantic spirit so rare in today's world. All virtues which are fast fading from various political sects who just want someone to fight with, as if there is ever just one real-world villain to take down and solve all our problems.

Ideologues always make it about themselves. No matter where you fall in the political spectrum they always hijack the conversation and rant about themselves.

Some would say our biggest problem is a missing king.

Ideologues hate *COMPETING* authority structures. They have *NO* problem with imposing their will and dictats on people when there is no competition.

Part of the draw of anarcho-capitalism and monarchism is that without top down political authority, there'd be much more organic social authority. A big welfare State devalues families, churches, and other real social institutions: substituting natural elites for unimpressive political elites. Charity would come from such organizations without a State, but it may have conditions: like a faith based charity insisting that someone clean up their act, or a general one pushing them to become self-reliant. Unintuitively, collectivist statism creates a society of isolated individuals.
