I love it when rappers rap from pain and real life events and when they rap from the heart like green does. It must be horrible to lose a parent to suicide. Such a powerful song. This makes me cry

Say what you will, Pro Green has the skill and heart of Eminem, and you can feel his emotions when he's rapping, if he was American and more recognised by the American market (and consequentially the rest of the world like Japan ETC) this would have what 250 million views? Oh well, i don't care, we can just keep this little gem to ourselves ;)

Not sure I agree there. He's excellent but has an AWFUL lot to do before anyone can start comparing him to Em. Just my opinion of course. :)
@Darkiie
@Darkiie 9 жыл бұрын
I'm not COMPARING him to Em, hate when people do that, just saying he has the heart and potential skill, sure he has a lot to do, he could be the next best thing, he only started out about what 2006/7 Eminem's been about since the 90s, he's young and if he was more recognised he would be driven to get better surely and blow up haha;)

I think people are too fixated on view count; it doesn't matter. All what does is that meaningful music is produced. And that it's recognized not by a majority, but a group of like-minded individuals who enjoy the music; solely for themselves and not just because everyone else does.

No I didn't i compared two aspects of what builds them up to be an Artist because I know for a fact Pro won't ever touch what Em has done but he really could if he worked his ass off, please spend less time trying to prove me wrong so next time you don't look an idiot...

Professor Green has the song writing passion. This song is kind of about him, because his father died when he was 17 and he knows the feeling of not having a father. His own life experience made his write this song that really touched people's souls and even mine.

his father didnt die when he was 17....he died in 2008, he was raised by his grandmother, he rarely saw his dad, the last time he saw him was on his 18th birthday. but i get what youre saying, he like eminem writes songs people can relate to rather than the generic weed smoking rappers

Feel sorry for this young man as a boy. I grew up in a painfull child hood that went from bad to worse. I think now there was a angel watching over me pulling me back and my gut telling me when there was trouble. But my son never seen his dad and how bad he was i protected him and kicked his dads arse. Didnt want the same for my light i wanted him to have a childhood and always enjoy who he is and embrace all of him like i do. My son my gift and proffessor green was to his parents.

Stephen Manderson, who raps under the name of Professor Green, was raised by his Grandmother Patricia from the age of one. He had a turbulent relationship with his father, who was rarely around during Manderson's childhood and committed suicide in 2008. In this song, Manderson responds to accusations made by his stepmother that his debut album, Alive Till I'm Dead was "cashing-in" on his death. He told The Guardian: "A lot of people face that craving for acceptance and wanting to feel appreciated. How am I not allowed to talk about how that affected me? It was a massive part of my life." Manderson did not find filming the video easy. He told The Guardian: "In the video there's one scene in particular where the dad holds his son's hand and then lets go. That moment for me is uncomfortable." You know, knowing what's out there and just saying to people 'It's there, here I am'. I say in the song: 'I won't censor myself for anyone. All that is good, all that is bad, all it is me' and by that I just mean to say 'take me as I am; I'm imperfect'. I wouldn't hold to be anything else." Manderson told Q magazine that despite the emotional nature of the song, it was easy for him to write. He explained: "Writing for me is therapeutic. Performing it is not so easy, nor was shooting the video. But I don't think you should be entirely comfortable with what you're doing all the time. As personal as it is, the connection it's had with people is amazing. A lot of people relate to that feeling of abandonment, whether it's a dad or a mum that's left. There's been lots of people on Twitter saying it made them reach out to their father who they hadn't spoken to for years. I never expected to write a song that changed someone's life."

I have been struggling with depression for more than 10 years now. Only in the last few months have I seen a GP about it. Suicide is always on my mind, the feelings of worthlessness and the idea that everybody in my life would be better off without me around, haunt me every minute of every day. I had never really approached Prof Green before I watched his Documentary Suicide and Me. That documentary has given me a hope that I am wrong. That if I were to shuffle off this mortal coil, they wont be better off, they will be devastated, angry at me and at themselves. To use his own words about his father. He has shown me id be a 'muppet' to do that to my friends who are as close to a real family as I could ever get. In an interview I have seen where he talks about that very documentary (loose women its here on youtube) he mentions that if one life gets saved because he went through what he did to make that program then it'd be worth it. Well Professor, that documentary may have saved mine.

First time for me to hear Professor Green!! I just want to say that......not only do you have a great voice........Your words are powerful!! I love this song Emeli Sande......you are a super-powerhouse girl!! I really do love this version! What I love about music is more than just the beat or the groove in it or whose singing it..............I love the story and when you do that such as how you told your story in this video, you give hope to someone. Someone that may pretend to deny you the respect that is yours by stereotyping and discriminating you and or your talent............Yes you just made them think even if they talk non-sense somewhere in there you hit a nerve in their conscience..... So keep doing what you doing Prof. Green and Emeli Sande.. #Peace #Love #Respect

I love professor Green as he is real about what he went through while growing up and he puts true meaning into his songs.. And he doesn't have to be off his head with all kinds of drugs to do it unlike so many of other artists around that do.. Just because he doesn't go on about needing to shoot someone or stab them or stupid post code gangs.. Like you walk down my street and I'll kill you, ohh yeah cos that's being real (stupid) no talent needed for that..

*LYRICS* I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it, oh. Nothing to hide Stife and I smother Suffered and cried Strife made me tougher Never mumbled or shy The trouble I rise above all Expectations to get rep Ain't never begged yet When I wanted to get pence, hustle, To be, I'm exactly what my neck says. That sket said I tried to cash in on my Dad's death, I wanted to vent 'stead I said nothing at all. After all you were never kin to me, Family is something that you never been to me, In fact making it harder for me to see my father was the only thing that You ever did for me. I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it, oh. Dear dad, As a kid I looked up to you, Only thing was I never saw enough of you. The last thing I said to you was I hated you, I loved you and now it's too late to say to you. Just didn't know what to do or how to deal with it, Even now deep down I'm still livid. To think, I used to blame me, I wonder what I did to you to make you hate me. I wasn't even bad, life's a journey and mine wasn't an easy ride. You never even got to see me rap, I just wish you woulda reached out, I wish you woulda been round when I been down. I wish that you could see me now, Wherever you are I really hope you found peace. But know that if I ever have kids, Unlike you I'll never let them be without me. I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it, oh. I write songs I can't listen to Everything I have I give to you In every one of these lines I sing to you. My job's more like public service My life just became yours to read and interpret. If you heard it will come across a lot different at times I throw fits when I read how they word things. You see me smile Now you're gonna have to see me hurt Coz pretending everything is alright when it ain't, really isn't working. I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it, oh. I ain't censoring myself for nobody I'm the only thing I can be, All that is good, all that is bad, all that is, me. I wanna sing, I wanna shout. I wanna scream till the words dry out. So put it in all of the papers, I'm not afraid. They can read all about it, read all about it, oh.

outstanding! powerful song to say the least im in the middle of fighting to see my child, due at court january! daughters mother stopped me seeing her after i paacked up and left, because she couldnt stay faithful. she adored male attention is a nice way of putting it, now im the one paying the price cos of her deceits. but i can relay to stephens own words 'id never let them be without me' i, myself lived the nightmare of my mother stopping my father seeing me as i grew up, i left home at 16 (well my mother threw me out, as she hated me, i have same name as my father and have his attributes and she hated how much i reminded her of him and i also then paid the price) and havnt spoke to her since, that was 11 year ago. my daughters the only family i have, and il stick with her until my last breathe! Fathers for justice

Really you don't know me and neither do I you, but individuals as yourself are the reason that there is still hope for everything wrong going on in the world! You're a HERO!! Whether you do or don't realize that...............to someone out there in the world your story matter's.......... you just saved a life..................You're a blessing to humanity and especially your daughter! I grew up with loving parents and my dad was my bestest friend.........he past away a couple of years ago....but I can say HE left knowing I was gonna make it in the world because he cared enough to be by my side when I was growing up..........Hats off to you for doing everything you can for your daughter!!! Stay blessed!!
