I don't think Silco was purposefully using Jinx for his own goals since until she takes the gems, it appears that since act 1 she has only ever been a liability that he constantly covered and made excuses for because she reminds him of himself the problem with silco is that he allowed a kid to help him in his revolution (tho that was probably the norm in zaun considering how bad everything was even before vanders death) also fun detail jinx is the only one from zaun ato have guns in the show so either she made them herself (and wasn't pressured to make more) or silco wasted a lot of money so she can have an upper hand over basicaly anyone in zaun

Hearing you explain the series of events, I only just now realized that Vi's actions at the beginning directly mirror Vander's. Attack the upper city trying to gain something, fail, lose everything they worked for, gain more pressure upon the situation.

I feel like all of them love and care for Jinx/Powder they just show it in different ways and different times but they all are worried about her well being.

Care: their doomed if you do. Their doomed if you don't. But maybe they're a little less doomed if you Care and don't. Have you ever seen "into the woods" (stage play)? There's this song where the baker after losing his wife contempates leaving his son and commiserates with his estranged supposedly dead father about why he left his family. It's the responsibility of caring for their children and taxi-ing them into the darkest parts of the woods. It's a great play that goes through all of those themes of raising a child.

Vander and Silko showing care has somethin wonderfully raw to it, they do not seem have a frame of reference on how to do so.

In act 2&3 Silco's and Vi's care for Powder was almost the same. Silco never calls Powder Powder and incoureges to remove that part of herself all together. Silco loves Jinx and his care is for Jinx. While Vi never calls her Jinx. She is afraid of Jinx even and wants to forget Jinx part of her sister all together and make her good old Powder again. Vi loves and cares for Powder and not Jinx. And it is really sad to think that at the end of the day noone loved Jinx for herself and truly accepted her.

Something I keep seeing said in Arcane discussion is that Vander controlled the Undercity until he was out of the picture. That is very clearly not the case. All Vander had control of for certain was his own bar, and people respected that because his bar was the den of vice that they all used to unwind from the stress of living in the Undercity. Vander exemplifies a caretaker role, but he's a shit leader. He made a decision for the Undercity, and then he went back on that decision. He tried to avoid consequences of his own actions, and now the children he wanted to care for instead get to deal with those consequences. He was the one who drowned Silco, he was the one who stopped the movement, he was the one who both wanted to play parent and didn't stop his kids from thievery, and even encouraged it to a degree. Vander looked like a good parent, but he wasn't a good parent. Vander had the image and affect of a good parent. Vander was in charge, had a business, had his daughters, even taught them some good life lessons, but at the end of the day Vander did all that at the cost of people who trusted him to be a good leader for a necessary rebellion. Who then went on to trust that he'd keep them safe. Who saw that he wouldn't be a leader they actually needed, creating the power vacuum that could be filled by a man who would go on to make every mistake he did but at least lead a successful revolution before he died.

God this is such a perfect analysis of the relationships between all these characters, but my faves will always be Jinx and Silco, and I think that the thing that is controversial about Jinx and Silco's father/daughter love is that Silco genuinely loved Jinx AND he wasn't abusive towards her. Now, their love wasn't the most healthy and both were terrible dependant of each other, but their love was sincere and caring. Maybe is because in most media these days is so rare to see what Silco and Jinx had, when a villain claims to love somebody, the parent/most powerful figure is always manipulative and/or phisical/emotional abusive towars the child/the most submise of the pair, their love is always conditional. Take for example mother Gothel from Tangled, she claimed to love Rapunzel, but only if she stayed in the tower and do all Gothel asked her, and when Rapunzel did something wrong or show some small speck of self confidence, Gothel immediately gaslighted and make her feel guilty. But I couldn't see any of that on Silco, he intimidated and threatened everybody but Jinx. He threated Marcus of killing his daugther if he failed him, didn't care of the death of one of his henchwoman's son why she was crying over his corpse. But he show how scared he was that Jinx could have died at the explosion at the bridge, he holded her with so much care, immediately looking for a doctor to save her. And Jinx is not afraid of him, the one time he was angry and screaming at her, she kept smiling with bright eyes, not afraid that he could have slap her or hurt her in a phisical way. Jinx was never afraid OF Silco, but afraid of making a mistake that could make him leave her like everybody else. Silco's love for Jinx was sincere, but he still raised her to be a killer, and didn't understand how unstable Jinx really was.

This was an incredibly lucid and compassionate idea of how care can be complex and how it can go awry with Arcane being an excellent example. But there was one thing left untouched that is gaslighting that arises from domestic abusers that is claimed to be care, but is a dark foil of it. I figured it would be a bit too dark, so I think it's intentional, which makes you smart.

It was never an issue of Vi not "accepting" who Powder was in Act 2. Vi is the only one in the entire series, including Powder herself, that continually reinforced the notion that Powder was strong enough to be her own person and didn't need to fall back on what others wanted her to be. The only things Vi didn't "accept" was that her sister was murdering innocent people and that Powder's actions were sending her into a self destructive spiral that was going to get her killed. Which considering Powder ended up committing a nearly successful murder/suicide, Vi was right to push back on that. It's just a near decade of Silco's cruelty, paranoia, gaslighting and manipulation coupled with Powder's own mental struggles was far to much for Vi to break through in so little time.

in short, its complicated. How do you guide others on a path that neither them or you, know is the right one? Vi tried to focus on the future, and later the past, but Silco paid attention to the present. You could say Silco had the best success about holding onto Jinx, but anyone could have seen it wasn't exactly a healthy relationship. And Vi failed because she ignored the present (more by accident than on purpose), but she wanted to see Jinx in a better place. I propose, you need all 3, but it is a very delicate balance, because if you swing just a tiny bit too much one way, you will have the history repeating itself all over again

I'm a roleplayer and my favorite thing to mess around about on discord with characters is there's two characters where one seems objectively worse but can be seen in other ways seen as subjectively kinder like if there was some great need for a sacrifice and the parent had to kill their own child, but that could be seen as cruel like forgetting about that special bond with your child that should subjectively be more special to you like you could be seen as some for the greater good robot when it wasn't something you were ready to plan to do you just put aside your personal feelings for the community (think the last of us) And care can get tricky like my parents can feel over protective to me and i've always been homeschooled (which started off as being the schools problem but that's another topic) i'm 18 and i've never been able to take a walk around the neighbourhood by myself or trick or treat like i knew other kids did and had my relatives over blow things like i'm some Repunzel type that's locked away and can never do anything cool, i've never had real in person friends during my still ongoing teenage years to go to the mall with or had prom or got to try out for school plays and i got upset kind of recently that my grandma had to go with me when my cousin offered this mall trip with friends like it was down right embarrassing when staying at my grandparents house and being on that call with my cousin that kind of tone she had without going into things like 'it'd be cool if you joined us but if your dad says it's okay you know..' like having to just be babysat or not go if my grandma's body couldn't take it and disappoint my cousin, even if that wasn't the safest town i remember accidentally breaking an ornament and freaking out only for the guy working there cleaning it up saying it was a-okay like I guess i can kind of feel repunzeled from the world and was still ordered to stay close to my grandma at all times like i was afraid of getting in trouble if i stepped away from her when i'm 18 and i'm pretty sure a group of teenagers could protect me if shit went down more than my grandma unless the logics my grandma would want to make sure i was okay more than some random teens with my cousin

It's interesting that I'm coming across this video now (9-months after it came out), the reason being a family friend has had a rough time in the last 9-months, having lost her husband and is now the sole provider and carer for their two kids. The biggest problem is that her kids aren't young, one is 17 and the other is 13 I think but they have no life skills because she does everything for them. In her mind she is caring for them, she loves them so much but all any of us from the outside can see is an almost 18-year-old who doesn't know how to cook for themselves, do laundry, fill out documents. Now being the sole provider and carer, she's overwhelmed because she can't be everywhere at once, her kids should be helping, especially because she is in the process of joining the workforce for the first time in over 2 decades, yet, she still hasn't gotten them to help with any chores. While I want to blame the teens and to some extent I can because they have well behaved friends who are excellent examples, so they know that how they live is pretty comfy - it's my family friends fault for training them this way and refusing to be firm even now. She thinks that she is caring for them but in reality she is setting them up for failure in life.

To me, at least, the problem with your theory is that it makes love too complicated; care becomes almost unachievable to fallible humans. I think you incorporate too much circumstance into your idea of care, and you leave out (mostly, not completely) the reasons why people want care at all. It's not just 'to fill the holes we have', it's a deeper need that connects us to others in a way that gregarious species have, something isolationist ones like felines don't. There's something in us that thrives only through the other, something that withers and dies without them. To me 'care' is what happens when we find people with good intentions to bond with; and the problems you mention with 'care' come from a lack of understanding the consequences of particular actions (i.e., they're more of a problem with causality, with the fact that all causes have multiple, nay infinite effects both good and bad) than from the nature of 'care' itself. You're more worried with its efficiency than with its nature.

I think people put too much value in the abstracts, "love" and "care" are by nature volatile because their meaning can never be truly translated from sender to receiver. That's why in some way there needs to be a contract, a visible or invisible agreement to terms that become mutually beneficial. That's not to say, however, that the contract itself is in any way discrediting the abstract. It's quite the opposite, despite what people might say. You are taking those feelings and making it relatable, understandable. You bring them into reality in a tangible way that both parties can understand without excess thought and worry.
