Comparing what people said in preseason about Stroud and about the team as a whole and what they said at the end of the season are absolutely worlds apart. It's honestly hilarious watching any pre-season content about Houston from last year. In fact PFF would simply talk ad nauseum about how the Will Anderson trade was one of the worst of all time...somehow that didn't come up this time around.

CJ is a great player, no doubt about that.

Stroud is definitely in a better situation, but Bryce still doesn't belong on an NFL team LoL.

I think him getting picked first overall makes sense given his draft class. Levis and Richardson being to far away in terms of development with Stroud as the other logic Option. Guys like Brees and Wilson worked out aswell for an pretty long time. For me the trade up at first overall was to much when they included DJ Moore.

I hate the "too small" argument so much because it just doesn't hold up to any scrutiny at all, it is solely based on how people think a football player should look and nothing else. The concerns always boil down to if you are too small to play quarterback you won't be able to see over the middle of the field because of your height, and you won't be able to take hits because of your weight. So, let's look at those things. Height: Bryce is according to the NFL 5'10" which is tied with Kyler Murray for the shortest quarterback in the league. Height clearly makes it easier to play quarterback we can all see that, and quarterbacks tend to be pretty tall, but it is not some disqualifying thing. We have seen multiple short QBs do great in the NFL, Wilson is 5'11" and won a Superbowl, Brees is 6 foot and won a bowl, and Murray has been to the Pro Bowl and won rookie of the year, so it is clearly not impossible to do well in the modern NFL as a shorter QB. This success has come with some caveats though that I will admit, Wilson and Murray both aren't great at targeting the middle of the field, and the Saints spent a whole lot of time on building a strong interior line for Brees to create passing lanes for him. I haven't seen his stats for over the middle of the field this year, but Bryce attacked the middle of the field pretty well during his time at Alabama and heat maps from PFF back me up on that. Those same maps show Wilson and Murray being quite bad at targeting the middle. We will see how that plays out with Bryce in the NFL when he has an actual line to work with and more stats, but it clearly isn't some impossibility. So, what other concerns do short QBs have? Not being able to see players? Certainly, could be the case but can easily be solved by playing in time and rhythm and knowing where your players should be in the play, not unlike how the Dolphins offense has been run for 2 years now. Batted balls? Has very little correlation with the height of QBs at all, and a lot more to do with staring down receivers and launch point for the ball. Bryce has been good at targeting the middle, he is at his best either in rhythm or scrambling when seeing the receivers either matters less or isn't as hard, and watching Bryce for 3 years now he hasn't had an exceptional number of passes batted down, although I credit that more to his arm angles than launch point. His height is not some disqualifying metric and throughout his career he has largely overcome it. Weight: Bryce's official weight is 205 but I would bet he plays more 200 or 195. Now like his height this is a pretty extreme outlier, and he is by far the lightest QB in the league. Many fans have fair concerns about the size of players, especially in a game as physically taxing as football. The problem arises when the concern isn't "he is too small to run QB sneak" and more "I would have been concerned dude would be getting beat up too much". There is very little correlation that smaller size in the league equals injury risk, in fact it is the opposite, bigger players are generally more likely to be injured than smaller ones. The truth is that you should be far more concerned about Anthony Richardson's health than Bryce's, and that has already held up for one season. AR had a season ending injury, and in fact got injured in every game he played, Bryce missed one game. The Golden Boy CJ Stroud who has average NFL size missed two games. Levis missed two games. Out of the 4 first round QBs taken in 2023, Bryce has missed the least amount of time and happens to be the smallest player. Now this whole weight thing really is pointless though when trying to predict injury risk, because it isn't weight that matters, it is contact. Big players happen to get injured more than smaller ones not because of the weight, but what the weight invites; contact. Bigger players can take bigger hits and fight for yardage, and the greatest correlator for injury in the NFL is how much contact you are taking, it is why RBs have short lifespans, and why Cam Newton flamed out and Tom Brady lasted for ever. In this context I might be worried for Bryce because he is a scrambling QB and those tend to take more contact than other playstyles, he also does fight for yardage when the game is on the line which is admirable but dangerous. He also has enough athleticism to encourage him to rush which will invite even more contact. These are not unchangeable traits however, Josh Allen a rushing king has openly talked about the running the ball less to preserve his health, Mahomes scrambles all the time and is great at going out of bounds when he needs to. Are these traits unlearnable for Bryce? I doubt it. I would be more concerned about Injury risk if Bryce actually had a major history of injuries in his career, but he doesn't. He missed one game in college due to an awkward fall on his shoulder, please go watch that injury and tell me being 225 would have prevented it. He missed one game in the NFL because he sprained his ankle. Like CJ has already missed the same number of games in the NFL that Bryce has missed his whole career. Watching Bryce for years now he has always been a pass first QB when scrambling, he has also generally been pretty good at getting down when he needs to and not inviting unnecessary contact. He also has a seriously underrated juke ability that helps him avoid some tackles as well. Bryce's weight is not anything I am concerned about at all as far as injuries go, so long as he protects himself as much as possible, he can easily last for many years in spite of his weight. When criticizing the Panther's pick of Bryce I wish more people would use some actual real criticisms of the player rather than the most surface level nonsense that doesn't hold up. His footwork is unorthodox and weird at the best of times and really bad at the worst. His arm is probably average or even below average for NFL standards and that is not good enough to be elite nowadays. His unshakeable calmness and mental resolve are only the case when he isn't the reason the team is having a bad game. His athleticism is like just enough to get him into trouble, but not enough to get him out of it in the NFL. THESE are real critiques of him I wish people would talk about, but you have to actual dissect them and think about, instead fans can just write him off as "too small" and "too short" and move on. What a shame.

It's because the lions traded back from 6 with Arizona and got picks 12 and 34. So they got Gibbs and Laporta who were both huge parts of a great offense. The great offense and offensive line is the other reason for preferring Gibbs. He gets to split carries and could easily be healthy and in Detroit for 8 years. Gibbs is just set up to succeed. I mean look at Kyle Pitts and how much potential is being wasted. And look at this draft with penix. It doesn't look like Atlanta is getting out of mediocrity any time soon

The Falcons released their Head coach and offensive coordinator then brought in an MVP candidate QB and a Head Coach and Offensive coordinator with a Sean Mcvay system, on top of having a top 5 o-line, top 10 receiver, tight end, and running back (when at full potential) and to add to that, they drafted a potential franchise quarterback to sustain success for the future as well as the short term. Atlanta is already a playoff contender now but will be a superbowl contender in the very near future, look at their trajectory.
