In today's video I share my experience in using a pair of the AD600 pro strobes by Strobepro / Godox as a professional product photographer. I've used them with my canon equipment, as well as my newer Fuji systems without skipping a beat. I share examples at the end of the video that show where these lights shine best.

Great video, brother! I am a working photographer also. I feel you on the weight. It adds up when you are flying commercial. I just picked up a couple of 1200’s. You won’t be disappointed with that light.

Totally agree. I bought 2 of them. AD 600 units are great value. Prophoto are so overpriced and same with the others. I like you so much I'm thinking of buying an AD 1200 as my next unit.

Did purchase the AD 1200 and have to say I absolutely love it. Godox just makes great stuff at a very good value for dollar.

Hi from up Island. I have 5 of these lights and one AD1200. They are great. I am more of a travel stock shooter and do not use the strobes as much as I would like. For trips I often take a few AD200's.

Hi Don! Small world. I'd love to get my hands on a 1200 for those specific scenarios. I too use my 200s mostly for travel, though I've found a way to pack a single 600 with my 200s for a balanced, but still portable setup. I talk about it in my new video here if you're interested: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kMhirbODl9KRopc.html

Sergio, thanks for keeping it real and providing some examples. I'm looking to pick up my first strobe, modifier, stand, trigger etc. Thanks for providing another perspective. I'm not sure you have the working knowledge of the "other" products (i.e. Broncolor or Prophoto) to compare the advantages and disadvantages of each. Price point seems to drive most of the decision making on these choices. You didn't mention anything about customer service or your thoughts on "Flashpoint" as an alternative - and again, forgive me if you haven't owned those. Overall, enjoyed your presentation and found it helpful. Many thanks.

thank you for your comment! I have rented a fair bit of profoto heads for different big jobs, but it's always because I'm travelling, and that's just industry standard in most camera shops. I can't justify any of the nuances I've noticed when it comes to recreating images in my studio. My gear is mostly for small local clients, and personal projects -> when I need specific gear for specific use cases, I rent.

@@sergiopstudio Finally purchased the AD600 Pro now that the price has been reduced by 33 percent. I'm sure there is a new model on the horizon, but this should suit me well for some time (to learn about how to modify light and shadow). Found myself coming back to your review for the issues.

I use AD600 old version. Use extension cord and unit act as sand bag. That is no brainer in wind. With smaller modifier no wories crosses your mind. I almost never take out bulb out of extension head. It's sad that it overheats pretty quickly in summer on full power. After ~30 rapid shot.

Thank you for your video! We started with Profoto B1's and A1's. We sold them but retained the modifiers - soft boxes (with speed-rings), barn doors, snoot, beauty dish, and umbrella. Then, we tried the Godox R2 triggers with the V1. Now, we would like to either move into the AD600Pro or similar if we can find adapters for all the Profoto modifiers. I realize there is a Bowens speed-ring, but I have found nothing to adapt the barn doors, beauty dish, or snoot. Do you know of a manufacturer that sells an adapter to use these items with the more powerful Godox units? Lastly, have you looked into what Westcott sells? Thank you. JP

Thanks for all the info, very clarifying and useful. I am considering buying it but I am on a very short budget, the manual one the ad600bm is almost half of the price, what can you say about it? Would I be well covered with it? Thanks again. Cheers.

@sergiopstudio

there's 2 there, Jason you're right! The shutter drag 360 flip is also the same lighting setup, I'm just sitting where the orange barrier is for that shot. If I recall, both lights are at the same power output, 180 degrees from each other.

I am not a product photographer, I use the older AD600TTLs (3) and ad200 pros and they work great. The 200's work great most of the time in controlled environment except for out doors where I take the 600s I even have the head that takes 2 ad600s and turns them into a 1200 used it shooting distance with reflectors and sports for faster recycle.. I bought them for half the price the 600 pros you have. Sand, dust on a motocross/sport bike track. They hold up well over the years, no failures although I have had one of them fall over on a light stand a couple times, still work great. I heard from others don't let them get wet in rain. I find no need to upgrade to the 600 pro's unless they die, and I don't think that will happen any time soon, as long as I keep them covered in the occasional rain shower and keep them from hitting the ground. I did break a bulb, just the outside glass, still works, still use it. I always use an compressor to blow the dust out of the internals. I am sure it will eventually destroy the fan but hasn't yet. I do use the cable (AD-H600) and mount them at the bottom of the light stand to prevent them from hitting the ground as in the past. I think Godox has allowed people who don't have the budget for profoto to enter the market with a durable professional flash. Compared to what photographers had in the past these flashes make them look like antiques.. which they are. Glad I bought them, they fit into an eco system that is open and lets you use other brands modifiers if you have them. I bought 5 lights for around $2K the price of 1 Profoto. (I buy Adorama Flashpoint, they always have good sales and often will include modifiers with new lights for pennies on the dollar.. always buy around black friday)

Good video. Not much you can do about the weight, all the brands play with the same physics, more power, bigger battery more weight. I have watched other videos and what they do outside with the AD200 pros with the reflector is pretty wild (non at midday) HSS eats up about a stop, some use ND filter for portrait. I think my biggest dislike is the abbreviations, not a show stopper and could be fixed with a higher resolution display. It makes learning more difficult compared to profoto but if you use the lights all the time, like anything you don't forget. Good luck on your channel, seem well done.

I think you got your trigger references mixed up. The flatter one maybe looks like Broncolor and the xPro maybe looks like the elinchrom skyport?

The gear identification of less technically minded people is valid. Amazing how many people go oooo and ahhh when you pull out a full frame with a 70-200 when in reality I could have done the same thing with a smaller M43 system

I'm no expert but Profoto seems like they think they can just keep pricing their stuff like Godox and even Broncolor doesn't exist. Maybe they are right, maybe they are wrong. But Pocket Wizard did the same thing and went from the industry standard pretty much everyone used to not being really seen anywhere anymore. Profoto has a lot of history and mystique behind them but I'm not sure they can keep riding on that in the long term as more and more photographers come up on less expensive flashes that get the job done reliably for 1/3-1/4 the cost. Take a photographer that starts on Godox and keeps using it as their business grows. Once they get to the point of being able to buy Profotos, will they still spend the cash when the Godox lights they've been using this whole time have been working great, got them to that point in their business, and are still going strong? I'm not so sure they will.
@sergiopstudio
@sergiopstudio Жыл бұрын
that's a very solid comparison to pocket wizard, I never thought of it that way. But I'm also exactly in that second category, where I just started as a godox user, and now that my business is growing, I still can't seem to justify Profoto/Broncolor heads and packs, at least new ones. If I need a very specific flash feature that is only offered on these more expensive packs (flash duration, recycle time) for a certain shoot, I'll just rent them. At least for now. Thanks for your comment Josh!
@blubravery
@blubravery Жыл бұрын
You know what they will do? Rent for the job. Pass that cost on to the client, and when done go back to using Godox or Westcott for work that doesn't require having a brand name.
