Hello, I’m 42 ys old, I have regular but very light periods (2 days) I get some hot flushes, my main bothersome symptoms are fatigue, dizzyness, joint pains and overall unwell feeling and anxiety. My Dr gave me two options eather SSRI ( which I don’t want) or birth control but I do have high blood pressure. I need something😞 and don’t know where to start.

This information leaves out a lot of women like me who can’t handle the progesterone pills. Taking progesterone pills is like taking an anxiety attack in pill form! It gives me major anxiety and spikes my blood pressure in the middle of the night. Thank god for the companies that make the higher dose progesterone creams. They work so well for many of us! I took p cream in peri only and it got rid of the weight, and yes the hot flashes and really lifted my mood. It was a complete life saver whereas the pill was nothing but misery. I even tried compounded progesterone in lower doses but it caused the same issues. Now in post I’m still using the progesterone cream with no issues. I’ve even tried the pills again because of all the hype but my body does not want them lol. Over all I’m so disappointed in our healthcare system and how there are no clear answers for anything for menopause.

Progesterone has helped me so much. My doc originally prescribed it to help with perimenopausal insomnia. It definitely helps, but I've experienced other benefits I didn't anticipate and hadn't heard of before. I was having frequent heart palpitations. Also, my appetite had become poor. To my surprise, since starting progesterone, I rarely have palpitations (now only when in stressful situations), and my appetite is great. My skin also looks better. I don't know if that's directly due to the progesterone or due to the effects of sleeping more and eating better. Every day, I'm glad that I have progesterone. It's really made a difference. As for the patients whose anxiety got worse, I wonder whether they were getting non-bioidentical progesterone. I take oral micronized bioidentical progesterone. I've been taking it for almost half a year, and it's made an incredible difference.

I'm just starting USP Micronized Progesterone oral capsule 100 mg, Estradiol patch 0.025 & Estradiol vaginal cream 0.01%. I'm 49 & have been in perimenopausal several years but the last 12 months or so I've seen significantly increased symptoms & new sudden onset menopause symptoms. Hopefully I do great on this new hormone therapy. You're correct....synthetic hormones are worse & especially synthetic Progesterone.

I agree with Dr. Hirsch. I also believe ordering supplements from Amazon is a crap shoot. Regardless if it works or not, remember Amazon has a return policy. A product someone bought (that was stored in their car, home, in the Sun, rain, cold, wherever, etc for however long) could land in your hands. Order things that go in your body from a reputable site.

My doc says oral is absorbed better than cream. Also, I heard that cream can saturate the tissues after a while. Bioidentical is the way to go if you try oral. I just found your videos as I’m in young surgical menopause. I’m so confused as functional drs tell me I still need progesterone (not progestins) for balance of my estrogen replacement. But traditional drs tell me no progestins or progesterone. Id also really love your input on estradiol injections done at home twice weekly? I’m on Vivelle dot patch .075 but have been considering E cyp injections twice weekly into belly fat. Can you give your thoughts on E injections twice weekly at home? Do you script E or T injections?

I used to have a lot of trouble with breakthrough bleeding from oral progesterone. I needed it as I am on a Climara patch with an intact uterus. I asked my doctor about the progesterone IUD which is typically used for birth control. She said it might be a good fit for me and it was. No more breakthrough bleeding. Plus the progesterone in concentrated in the uterus where it’s needed and nowhere else. Great solution.

Can you see another doctor? Some think that even women without a uterus can benefit from it, for sleep as well as protection from hormonal cancers, such as breast cancer. That is, if you have estrogen still or are taking estrogen. If it helps you sleep, I don't see why your doc won't let you have it. Might be worth getting a second opinion.

This makes me so frustrated. I've learned things from reputable doctors like you about peri-menopause and post menopause. How can you say that progesterone is like a snake oil and then say in your next video you will discuss when and how to use progesterone? We know that peri-menopause causes a drop in estrogen and even more of a drop in progesterone, which can cause heavy or longer periods. So, why wouldn't taking micronized oral progesterone help during peri-menopause? I've learned that it does help very much. Why call it a snake oil? (Maybe you will discuss that over the counter "progesterone" is not real progesterone. It's more estrogenic. But I hope you will clear things up, because this video was not helpful as it seems misleading.

But the over the counter progesterones , just because they don't cost 200 dollars a jar , do have side effects , and that means there indeed is something in there . Those creams say micronized progesterone . They help with sleep. They work. Vitamin D is it FDA approved , but has a side effect on the body. So does iodine in salt , is it FDA approved ? Just because something doesn't come from a pharmacy doesn't mean it doesn't work. It's the logical fallacy of just because something might not be FDA, like brands of vitamin D, iron supplements , doesn't mean all their good effects is just a darn placebo. It's a big logical fallacy issue I hear throughout the video
