This will let us use the switch panel with any popular simulator, like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, X-Plane 11, Prepar3d and FSX. This uses a program called MobiFlight:

Nice work Trevor! One tip for Xplane I wouldn’t use mobiflight. Simvim would work way better so no need for keyboard shortcuts.

Ya, I should probably use SimVim if I end up using only X-plane - but since I want cross compatibility, I’m gonna use primarily FSUIPC offsets. Thank you so much for watching, Yummy!

Hi Captain awesome work! I'm creating the light panel of the boeing 737 PMDG, could you show me a video or maybe do it yourself where you explain the steps for the on-off-on 3-position switches such as the engine start selector for ing left or right or the apu in the three positions of the off on start switch. Not to mention the accent knobs where you need to switch from off to grid left and automatically snap after power up to off. In short, there is a lot of work!!! Thanks for what you will do.

Hello Gianfranco, Here's a video of me explaining on off on switches: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ndd1h9h8qp2af2Q.html You'll have to use your specific PMDG offsets, perhaps in FSUIPC. Mickey's Flight deck and DIY737 Sim I believe both have the automatically snapping switch designs. Happy Landings and let me know if you need more help!

Great Video Capt. Bob, I have a question. I run both FSX & MS 2020. I have connected and configured in MobiFlight the parking brake and landing gear switch to run in MSFS 2020 - EVENTS, they work great. I tried setting up FS2020 in FSUIPC but couldn't make them work. I would like to control these in FSX as well. Is there a way to have the same switches control in both sims ? if not, can I run a second set of jumpers for FSX from the same switch to other pins on the same 2560 and configure used FSUIPC or should I use a separate 2560 to run FSX? Thanks, keep up the Great Work!!! it is appreciated. Kevin

Hello Kevin! You should be able to make two separate configuration rows for each switch: One in FSX (using FSUIPC or EventIDs) and one in FS2020 (Using MSFS Events or FSUIPC). This will execute both of these at once, and only the one applying to the simulator in use will work.

quick question for you or your viewers: i saw you did some work with air manager (which bt the way downloaded and started to do some stuff my self, being quite happy about the results), why swtich now to mobiflight? is there any advantage i am missing?

Hello Fly EC! MobiFlight is a configuration tool that you select what you want to configure from a dropdown, or type in a number to make something work. With Air Manager, if you want a switch to work, you have to custom code the switch, lookup the datarefs/events, code it, debug it and run it. Air Manager's hardware functions are starting to be added to make it more plug and play, but I feel MobiFlight gives much more flexibility for homecockpit builders like me (that like to configure more specific things). This could easily be done using the Hardware function switch panel in Air Manager. The other reason I use MF is because it's free 🙃

On those on off switches, am I to believe the bottom "off" are connected in series while the top "on" are connected separately? If so can you explain why? Does the on position act as a signal while the off act as a ground?

Yeah! If you think of each switch as a circuit, the switch is disconnecting the ground signal from going to a pin. When the ground is allowed to travel to/from the input pin it's read as a connection (the circuit is complete).

This may be a super dumb question. But do you need to program Arduino before using mobiflight?

Nope! When you flash a compatible arduino with MobiFlight, it becomes a MobiFlight board.

Both methods work! If you run out of pins just get a second Arduino! I group each arduino more or less by panel because I’m making mine modular

I can't seem to get the buttons in the device drop down menu under where I choose the mega it says no output devices added so adding buttons won't come up in that menu so I can configure them

Can Air Manager be used instead of Mobiflight and FSUIPC ?

Yes! Air manager has it's own way of configuring things however. I think there's an instrument called "switch panel" that lets you configure everything relatively easily.

Check in the "add device" field under MobiFlight modules to see generally what is supported. MAX7219 are the only 7 segment displays that are supported

@@CaptainBobSim ok, but if you have these segments(eg radios) runned by other controller cards in your system, mobiflight will cover basically all your needs in a c-172, b-58 baron sim?
