@@MidoseitoAkage Actually the “remake” (Which isn’t really a true remake, that was kind of a clever meta thing they did) is a lot better than the hyper nostalgia blind OG 7 fanboys make it out to be. It’s not amazing or anything, but it does flesh out the characters a lot better and the gameplay is just an improvement from FFXV in every way. I heard so much hate for it but when I finally played it I thought it was good. Not amazing or anything. But a hell of a lot better than 13 or 15 IMO.

I remember when I was a kid and first played FF6 on the SNES. The opening scene and music sent chills up my spine. *spoilers* FF6 stands out from almost all other jrpgs in that it was at it's core deeply tragic. You don't start in your hometown surrounded by people who love you, to soon go off on an adventure. No, you start as an aggressor killing innocent people, albeit an unwilling one. Almost all the main characters have their own personal tragedy's. Halfway through the game, you fail, the world is ruined and everyone goes their separate ways. You are reintroduced to the world through the eyes of Celes who wakes up years later stranded on an island and depending on events, attempts to commit suicide by jumping off a cliff. But she lives, escapes the island, and one by one brings the party back together, finally ending Kefka's tyranny. But make no mistake, it's a pyric victory. In my view FF6 stands out as one of the greatest rpg's of all time. Not because of it's gameplay or graphics, but because of it's consistently, deeply human story.

That's the thing that always stands out to me. Kefka won. Yeah he was defeated and destroyed in the end but he accomplished his goal. There is no good guys win. The good guys just... survive.
@eacaraxe
@eacaraxe 2 жыл бұрын
@@Krupertful FF6 is superior in every conceivable way to FF7, but...7's ending is a hell of a lot bleaker (at least, on its own, not taking into account DoC and AC). 6's ending makes it clear that, while magic is gone from the world and defeating Kefka had an unbearably high cost, the world will revive and already is reviving. 7's ORIGINAL ending was ambiguous as to whether humanity even survived. The near-endgame dialogue scene with Bugenhagen strongly implies either way humanity won't, and it's down to whether the planet itself survives Meteor.

Searching for Friends was by far my favorite overworld theme in any Final Fantasy game, and pretty much my favorite FF song of all time as well... and then the Pixel Remaster went and made it even better (in a different way). I love both the original and the remix, each hits me slightly differently, but both are simply amazing. @@OhShiverMeTimbers The fact this is 100% scored by an orchestra is really hitting me hard. I'll paste a comment from another video that illustrates just how profound the music is - the opera scene especially - to me, my musical identity and developing my emotional self: "The moment the song swells into the second verse was a life-changing moment for me as a young man. I had always enjoyed music, but this was the first time the power of music absolutely paralyzed me with its beauty and making a deep connection within my soul. I will never forget playing this game at just past midnight when this song started to play... I was in the basement so I was glad no one could see (or hear!) me weeping; with a good speaker system, you can feel this song's power resonate in your chest. I never would have guessed that a late summer night in 1998 would be one of my most lasting memories. Thank you Nobuo Uematsu for crafting your magic for gamers everywhere." THAT'S how much the music in this game means to me - and hearing it fully realized to its true potential with real orchestra arrangements and instruments is such a cathartic emotional release. It's hard to put into words and I hope don't sound like a sappy mess... but this music got me through some hard times and helped me emotionally develop more than any piece of media. Sorry for the length, I don't get to talk about this game's music enough with people :P
@OhShiverMeTimbers
@OhShiverMeTimbers 2 жыл бұрын
@@AJR-zg2py not sappy at all, and I COMPLETELY understand. I think nostalgia is perhaps the strongest emotional queue to the psyche, and music is the oldest, most profound *truth* in life. It's always existed, we just found out how to harness it. Rhythm, harmony -- they've been around as long as time, just there, waiting patiently for us. Naturally, there are pieces from FF7 that can make me cry to this day. The main menu theme of Zelda OOT can transport me 25 years into the past in an *instant* and I can feel the *exact* feelings I felt then, when there are things I did last year I don't even remember. The Great Fairy's Fountain Theme connects me to a heaven I don't even believe exists! I'm getting off topic 😅 just trying to say that I know what you mean and I resonate with that comment. Hell, I've heard every piece from FF6 without having played it! The music transcends the whole! Nobuo Uematsu is a special breed of human and composer.

FF6 deserves the remake treatment FF7 had. EDIT: I made this comment over 2 years ago. I've had time to reflect on my comment as the FF7 Remake games have started coming out. I would like a faithful remaster of FF6 not whatever is happening with the FF7 Remake. I don't think remaking FF6 is a good idea, maybe a good remaster that adds without taking away but I know that won't please everyone, so I don't have a good answer.

I'm with you, but I think FF6 is just perfect the way it is.

I kind of agree. But 6 is also perfect the way it is like Chrono Trigger. My pipe dream was always 7 getting the remake (also Legend of Dragoon) And as much as I do love six, remaking it is a herclean task, even moreso then 7. I have been playing a game called "Sea of Stars" and if they did remake 6 I would want it to be in that style as opposed to the 3D aspect. It would work better in my opinion

Ff7 remake taught me that you should never ask for that. They will fuck it up so badly you'll question if you ever even loved the IP in the first place

I have never cried while playing this game, but I get it. There are so many great/sad moments in the game. The destruction of Cyan's castle. The train scene. The opera. Celes and Cid's final moments.

Celes and Cids final moments? You mean in the WoR? But you can save Cid if you only catch the fast fish on beach and feed them to him.

I was a bit young when FF6 came out so I never played it growing up, but terras theme got me tearing up a bit as well. Makes me wonder what game from my childhood will get a remake and have my crying. Maybe Legends of Dragoon???

Did anyone happen to capture all of Jerd’s FF6 streams? It’s a shame he didn’t upload them to his channel. Would’ve been nice to go back and revisit them, instead of them being lost to time.

Don't worry Jared! You're not the only one who cried!! FFVI will always be for me the game that shows that Final Fantasy is waaaaay more than "Pretty edgy boys with huge swords"... Still my favorite FF after all this time!

Final Fantasy IV (or FFII when I first played it on the SNES) is still my favorite of the series, as it was the first FF game that I played (I did have a NES prior to that, but never did play Final Fantasy until much later) and while the gameplay had since been surpassed by other FF titles, the story was so amazing to me, so I have the most nostalgia for it. Having said that, Final Fantasy VI (III) is a very close second, and the gameplay was on another level yet again and the story and music are epic as well (Searching for Friends = best theme in the franchise, fight me). Still go back to it on occasion, and will definitely do a Pixel Remaster run on it eventually.

I grew up with ProJared, FF6 was always his favorite game. He would finish the game then start playing it again, and again. Where's Jared? In his room playing FF6.
