ID - Video 1
Project 1 in our Civil Engineering Projects - a free monthly project series.
In this video, you will learn,
1. In detail knowledge about creating the RC section using fiber section concept of OpenSeesPy and visualizing the created section.
2. How to download experimental data of columns tested under a variety of scenarios from PEER Database and use it in your graduate and undergraduate academic projects?
3. How to process the cyclic load displacement data and extract the displacement data for performing a displacement controlled simulation?
4. In details knowledge about various stages involved in creating FE model and post processing the load displacement results.

very nice and helpful. I wish such videos had existed when I once struggled to learn OpenSees during my PhD days.

Hi @aliejax6343, Thank you for your kind words! We're really glad you find the videos helpful. We completely understand - we also struggled with learning OpenSees during our studies. That's why we're putting in our efforts to help upcoming OpenSees users. It's great to hear that our content is making a difference for you. If you have any other questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

Hi. Thanks for this great video. I just did not understand the part you used dispProfile function. Do you apply the "exact" test data ? I use TCL so it looks a little confusing for me.

Hi @behnam6700, thanks for reaching out to us. Yes we apply the exact displacement profile reported in the experimental data. The step size (difference between any two displacement increments) in the experimental displacement profile is somewhat large. Hence, we are just changing that default step size to some smaller one (say 0.1mm) in dispProfile. That's it nothing more is happening in the dispProfile function.

Hi I am trying to follow your tutorial but in the push over analysis it returns error : pushoverAnalysis failed at 4 step WARNING: CTestNormDispIncr::test() - failed to converge after: 10 iterations current Norm: 2.20585e-05 (max: 1e-05, Norm deltaR: 7.28408e+07) NewtonRaphson::solveCurrentStep() -the ConvergenceTest object failed in test() StaticAnalysis::analyze() - the Algorithm failed at step: 0 with domain at load factor 125027 OpenSees > analyze failed, returned: -3 error flag Could you give me any suggestion ? thanks in advance

Hi @willywirawan565, thanks for reaching out to us. Good to know that you are following our tutorial. Convergence issues are very common in nonlinear finite element analysis and sometimes they are very tricky to resolve. You can try the following, 1. When an algorithm fails to converge at a load step, try changing the test methods and algorithms adaptively, (you can look at our earthquake example here - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/kLBjdbagms7Xkas.html). 2. Try reducing the tolerance and if you are using force based elements then try displacement formulation based elements. 3. Check your material models (unaxial or ndmaterial). Wish you all the best.
