In part 4 of Project 750Li, we continue reassembling the engine and prepare to mount it on the subframe. The plan was to put the subframe back in the car, until we found transmission damage... Stay tuned for part 5 where we will disassemble the transmission to resolve the issue and then get the engine back into the car!

I’m incredibly familiar with this engine and the certain jobs you do on this and decisions you’ve made are phenomenal. The coolant plate on the rear of the engine often gets overlooked but it causes slow seepages overtime. And the ELRING valve guide choice. Best choice for longevity and reliability.

Did the Transmission lock up the engine because of the pump on the front of the flywheel because he said the engine wouldn’t turn over
@Carnold_YT
@Carnold_YT Жыл бұрын
@@davemarcinczyk2050 I think the flywheel wouldn't rotate because the two lips were jammed. The bell housing was mounted to the engine, but because the two broken lips were jammed in between the torque converter and the flywheel, there was too much friction (the flywheel was clamped) to rotate the flywheel.

This series is outstanding. Very high quality production. I'm going to speculate that those transmission fluid pump tabs were broken when the engine and trans were decoupled. The units need to slide straight away from each other on axis. I feel your pain. I broke mine reassembling a 6HP19 to an N54. The tabs were aligned to the torque converter slots, but during transmission fitment, the alignment was lost. During bell housing bolt-up the damage was done

Love your work man. I have a 2010 750i with 50k miles what things should I keep an eye on other then constant oil changes and charging the battery? Cheers
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor Жыл бұрын
Thanks! On these cars unfortunately it has less to do with the mileage and more to do with the age. This project has only 82,000km. With only 50k miles and frequent oil changes, i’m sure the internals are all fine, as they were in this case. Rod bearings, cylinder walls and camshafts all looked great. The problem is with all the heat this engine generates, all the plastic hoses and fittings disintegrate. That’s the reason for the issues with valve seals, timing chains and all the coolant lines that I had to change out. Enjoy the car because it is really a great car, just make sure to have some (or a lot) of cash on the side for repairs and maintenance. Feel free to email me at info@bimmerdoctor.com if ever you need some work done, or want some extra help with something you’re working on. Good luck!

Hi there, it is possible as I have done it before on that exact same car! The only problem is that it is much more difficult. You spend more time fighting for space than actually doing the job. After doing it both ways, removing the engine is actually easier and faster.

So bday was fun, but it's back to work. I have almost finished tearing motor down, and so far everything looks good. the side that had the misfire appears to be undamaged along with head, Haven't torn apart the lower pan yet though so that is where the problem is probably. I have to move everything from current location to my friends shop so it's a busy week. Did you ever publish the list of parts you used? Im getting ready to start ordering them. Im debating and on doing the bearings as well since the motor will be torn down so i will keep you updated. I will make a whole series on this, but right now concentrating on getting this project put back together there are so many parts. lol

@@bimmer.doctor nope so far they look just a little greasy from the carbon build up. So i did find the first clue today. The chain guides are missing small plastic end pieces. I will be finishing bottom end tear down, but so far block and head look undamaged. The lower timing gear was fine with no visible wear either. Even top of motor was clean after removing turbo drain shield

hello, i noticed you didn't install the o-rings when you installed the turbos at the 8 min mark. is there a reason why? on realoem it shows an o-ring when the turbo oil lines sit in the engine hole.
@bimmer.doctor
@bimmer.doctor 5 ай бұрын
It's hard to see, but the o rings are pre installed in the new oil return housing (you can see it installed at 2:30 in Part 3). I just put a bit of oil and slid the turbos on. You definitely need an o ring there otherwise there would be a mess of oil as soon as you start the car!
