Even if he doesn’t win another championship, I think he may have had some regret one day of never getting to drive for Ferrari compared to just seeing it out at Mercedes. I have no doubt this played a large part of it.

He took a chance for the last two seasons, and could of gone to elsewhere, third time lucky, maybe but with that clever clause and striking a deal with another team. means he can 100% be focused in winning races first.which will benefit mercedes for 2025 with his input.

I think he was told ‘wait till testing, it’ll be fine’, then he found out none of his suggestions were implemented.

If & its a big If, Lewis win's a WDC in a Ferrari he would have won a Championship with three teams, only Fangio has done better with four. Over a lap he would have his hands full with Charles, though imo his race pace/craft, years of experience would be a big challenge to Charles who could only benefit from having Lewis as a team mate.

It immediately makes me think of Prost vs Lauda 1984. Prost was the young hotshot who won 7 races and was almost always on pole, but Lauda was the wise old champion who set his car up for races and finished more consistently, taking the title by 0.5 points.

@@pmbuthia4210George, just like every other F1 Driver, thinks he's the best and you have to praise the courage to fight Lewis the way he has. At the same time, he has been open about learning from Lewis, particularly at Williams regarding tyre management. So, it's not like George isn't willing to learn from Lewis it's just that he's hungry to be the best.

Sounds like technical team must have not listend to Hamiltons feedback again with certain philosophies, like before with wrong cockpit position and so on. Mercedes internally is truly on a decline.

I really hope this is an inspired move. I’d love to see Hamilton get his 8th. I wonder what they told him about the 2026 rule changes to convince him. I’ve not been a Ferrari fan since Mansell drove for them, so will have to dig out my now vintage Ferrari cap. Can’t wait for the 2024 season to start!

If you look at ground effect era only, Ferrari are a far better team than Mercedes, people only think Merc will comeback due to their 2014-2021 era. And frankly, the benefits of winning that 8th with Ferrari is like 100x more enjoyable than winning with Mercedes.

Ferrari share prices are crazy! Bank the money, and happy days for the drivers, staff and car. Bet you Mercedes didn't change the cars seating position. Unhappy driver, and unhappy car. Leclerc is going to pull Lewis further in Qualifying (but I see Leclerc out qualifying Lewis in the season) and Lewis is going to pull Leclerc further in race trim (I see Lewis edge Leclerc over the season) and Ferrari will be fast. Lewis will clean up the strageties!

Curious, why is it huge? He’s at the end of his career, I suspect he wants to tick off his final bullet points on hi F1 bucket list and drive for the most historically iconic team. I’m so confused why everyone is shocked. It’s actually predictable and boring. Lewis has had his day, he’s a miserable and bland person who participates in media less than any other driver. He hasn’t been relevant for a couple of years.

This is a vote of no confidence in Mercedes, Hamilton clearly has seen the data and satt in the Sim. That car is a dud. He knows that Ferrari must have something at least. I don't think he'll be winning a championship or beating Charles, but at least he can finish his career now as a Ferrari driver with at least the odd race win.

I think the team went a different way with the car design and Lewis wasn’t happy. It’s the only thing that makes sense. The car is just being finished and Lewis wants out? They didn’t listen to him with development on something drastic and Fred probably told him that they’ll listen to him

Considering red bull were .8 of a second faster on race pace last year and word coming out of the RB simulator that they are a second faster, (basically 1.8 seconds ahead) it’s very very unlikely anyone will challenge red bull. Max will win 12+ races and maybe Ferrari and merc will split a couple of wins each

We are talking about, the greatest inspirational person in my lifetime, Lewis wanted the ambassador role , more than Mercedes knew, and he shows his class by giving Mercedes 12 months to find a driver to replace him. I think Mercedes dropped the ball, and Lewis ran with it, well done Ferrari !

It makes sense for Lewis to do this now although it can't have been easy for him. He gets one last shot in Mercedes 2022 regs car before hopping over to try out Ferraris version for 2025. It is very unlikely any of the cars will change in 2025 before the big regulations change in 2026 so why not kill two birds with one stone. It's his best hope to win a Champinship in the next two years.

We have to wait and see. Nobody knows how good or bad Lewis will be at Ferrari. But my hopes are not high. I think it's formost a financial deal. Will Ferrair beat the Max/RB combination, i don't think so. The balans within Ferrari will be gone. Drive 2 Survive will be fun though and will sell. The same would apply to Alonse going to Merc. But the really great news would be: what if Verstappen would break with RB (not a serious thought), but he would make a team like Merc or Ferrari World (Driver) Champion within a single season for sure.

For Ferrari it's a win whatever happens, they've still got Leclerc and have banked the publicity. For Hamilton it's part boyhood dream, part pragmatic.... and a ten mill pay cut... if the rumours are true.

Lewis was only offered a one year + one year contract by Mercedes, at the same time LeClerc and Norris were being offered much longer contracts by their teams. Ferrari’s offer is clearly much more appealing to Lewis and reflects the belief Ferrari has in Lewis.

He has abandoned a sinking sinking ship peroed. Every team is years off red bull. The only thing that brings the other teams back into contention are rule changes. That's what f1 does when 1 team dominants for too long.
