Good to have you guys back, I do love a good Tamiya hornet, maybe as a finale to this series you could put a hobby wing brushless system and send it!

It'd be sweet to see the front tires get an upgrade too. I really feel that the smoothies are a miss when it comes to trying to hook into corners and hang into it. I'm excited as heck to see the 380 being tossed in this ol girl! Thanks for the conrent

Tire upgrades are a MUST! Agree you you 100% Thanks for the support.

My first kit was a 1/10 Panda buggy. It had a captured ball where the diff connected to the frame. It had lots of articulation like this setup. Nice to see hop ups for the old hornet. Great vids. Keep 'em coming!

Thanks bud! Was super fun to put together.

That was pretty cool. I like the modified rear end. If you happen to have a TRF off road buggy around, borrow a set of front shocks off it and put them on the rear of the Hornet. I did that once, made quite a difference.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
Nice! Would be cool to fit some TRF bits!

Nice run, the 380 sport tuned is a great motor and it will be perfect for the Hornet.

Springs are to firm. Looking good but... I did a nice 3D rear shock,body and wing all in one mount . Print in TPU the mount and wing protects it so much.

So good to see you again! Watching 1:28 now. You went into the first corner hot, and it hung in there. That's awesome. Maybe a little softer suspention in the rear but let's see what those tires do! Foams in there would be sweet.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
Rear was absolutely too stiff (noticed the same after I had time to watch it). We will get it sorted for sure. Man a nice set it tires with foams is going to be huge!

great idea for a series.. i have a soft spot for the hornet as thats what i had way back when.. looking forward to further installments .. just 1 thing tho, please only test 1 change at a time.. you changed the springs and shocks in this video as well as the 4 link and this makes it tricky to see where the improvement came from..

This is really interesting, I think the Hopper chassis has a better balance than the ORV with modern electrics in them. I shall watch your progress with great interest!

Nice piece of engineering for sure, and great vid'! Be sure I do love and appreciate all the work on the channel, and I hope I won't be too much controversial, but a solid "motor-on-axle" with shocks behind the axle just can't work suspension-wise. When the torque from the motor is ON and the tires grip, under the counter-torque, the axle can't do anything else but blocking onto the suspension upper stops, extending the shocks, and... That's it! You've got your fully rigid rear-end. The only way to have it working I think is to mimick Kyosho's design on the Rampage, having the shocks INSIDE a very large four-links system. On a Grasshopper/Hornet/DT-01, no matter how you upgrade the linkage to the chassis, the rear suspension "works" only when the car is not running. But I repeat: great vid', as usual, so thank you for sharing! :)
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
Not controversial at all brother. It's a flawed design from the get go (why the cars were so fun from the get go...haha). The buggy is both fighting the motor weight, crap tires and mentioned suspension geometry issues. The 5 link absolutely helped on the off power sections and landings though hence the faster lap. Appreciate the great comment!
@Mouc-RC2 ай бұрын
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC Didn't think of the off power sections! Agreed, it must help quite a bit, there. The 380 will also help I'm sure, as it should be less punchy & torquey. Can't wait for what is to come, thanks again, & enjoy :)

So glad that you come back with (as usual) an another awesome video ! Honestly i love the Hornet because is so hard to correctly handle it and that makes a lot of fun. I'm looking for the run with 380 motor 'impatiently' (not sure if i can put in this way in English). Big thanks for sharing ! 🙂
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
It's such a imperfect (perfect) car! The flaws make it fun. Trying to un-flaw it will be fun as well. Thanks so much.

Looks good. I feel like the rear suspension was still bound up somehow watching the slow motion and hearing it bounce down the long straight away.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын

@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC sorry that was Xray. 370 size with the exposed pcb. "Supersize Micro Motor"
@roguetorino2 ай бұрын
I think you might have to go lighter on the rear springs. From the slow mo' clips it doesn't look like the rear suspension is moving much and is causing the rear to bounce. The tires contribute a little bit to that but the dampers should be damping that more.
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
Needs a change in the rear spring/oil for sure. Appreciate it!

So was this TT done with the 540 or 380 ST? I think if you played about with different springs and shock oil for the rear it would be to stiff, could hear that familiar hornet rear end skip. Great to see you back BTW, I really enjoy your videos 👌
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
540 for this one. Rear shocks were off a bit for sure...but we will get her dialed in. Really appreciate it.
@alanjones8042 ай бұрын
@@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC will the 370 ST motor fit the adapter plate that comes for the 380 motor in the kit? I did look at one for mine but got told they run very hot? I stuck on a 540 ST... So much fun 🤣🤣
@VINTAGEBACKYARDRC2 ай бұрын
@alanjones804 Hmmm...I am not sure. I plan on making an adjustable plate for the 380 to custom gear the buggy.
