I have a 00 since 04 and its been rode many many miles. Never had any issues except plastic. Yamaha asked 400 for a gas tank years ago. At last check it was up to 700 plus and by now probably out of stock. The seat has been covered twice, wore out 3 front sprockets, 1 rear, dozens of tires ( even fronts), countless chains. The brake pads are wore out and i put on a rear master cylinder. Its still strong and never has needed a the valves set. I threw an old tank from XR 200 or something on (not perfectly), and used bailing wire to secure it. And. Plenty of pool noodle foam to keep it up. I dont know what year xr tank it is but its orange and blue color scheme. I think there are several of the xr years and sizes that work. Acerbis sells one for them with a kit to convert to ttr 250. Way too expensive. Someday i will restore mine and do it right, till then i will chase the cows and ride to work some.

I like to see these type under rated bikes like the XR, DRZ, KLX, bikes enjoyed by those that understand the reliability and fun factor they provide without the hype of the newer overpriced to buy and maintain more { modern bikes }. thanks great video

Drz are becoming popular now

Great job! I've got a 99 TTR 250 with the conversion kit from Baja Designs to make it street legal. Mine was in sorry shape when I got it and had to do a ton of work to get it to it's current condition. Love my TTR though. Getting ready to do the fork seals soon.

Jon Jackson, I just bought a 2002 TTr250, it runs good but It needs a few parts. Do you have a good source for plastics and other parts? I'm not seeing much on dennis Kirk or amazon...thanks.

@@countrykid-lc5yv Nice! I actually managed to save my plastics with A LOT of elbow grease. I lightly scraped and sanded all of the oxidation off the fenders and tank( the tank was really bad....it had surface cracking) I did the best I could and then used some Rust-O-leum plastic paint that was a really close match for Yamaha blue. I ordered a graphics kit on Ebay and that's pretty much it. I also found it difficult to find aftermarket plastics like Acerbis etc. for the front you can use a universal fender but the rear you have to go factory Yamaha which isn't cheap. A really good source for all things TTR is a site called Totally TTR'S . They're out of the UK and they have a ton of stuff not available here in the states. Hope this helps!

Might be running a little lean, with the popping or the gasket on the head pipe might be leaking a little bit
