I find it awesome when something that used to be a mod becomes part of the base game. Just brings parity to everything. And modders get to have a stable, common base to build off of.

It's cool, but at this point I'm on Build 420 in the year 2243 with the amount of mods I have installed.

NGL my favorite feature in this video is the packaging mechanic. That'll make things so much easier to organize. Second coolest thing to me is the item variants. Generators with different characteristics seems really interesting, and it will give you a reason to go looking for more even if you already have one. Unless you get lucky and find your favorite one first! Then it's even more exciting. Also love that they're keeping swords as chase items. Good choice.

That drag feature was so cool! I'm so excited for all these updates in the future for the game.

the fact that some of the things the devs discussed in this blog that seemed to be already mostly functional may be cut from build 42 and put into a later build makes me think that things are still mostly on schedule and that they are still aiming for a release window in the first half of the year, and are down to trimming things and polishing now.

Once again TIS come out with another absolute banger of a dev blog! The GrappleTech feature looks really good, that's such a huge immersion boost and I hope will be extended to objects as well so items can be picked up / carried / dragged in a more natural way, imagine pushing furniture around to block doors and windows! All the crafting upgrades and other features look properly good, I love the new packing mechanic too and can see that being used for a lot of item groupings! As for the "hollow book", for some curious reason my first thought was "ooh you could totally use that to turn a valuable book into a surprise bomb in multiplayer!" 😁. Either way Build 42 is shaping up to be the Badger's Knackers and I'm absolutely here for it! Cheers Mr Duck and thankyou for all you do mate!

Regarding the fences, it seems to me that it will work like State of Decay 2 and the sieges. Let me explain, as our base and our community grows, it will generate a certain level of noise that will attract the zombies and if we let them wander, it will eventually increase the number of zombies until it finally becomes a horde and they begin a kind of siege on our base.

The packing addition will be nice. There is a mod for ammo that does this, and it makes hording and storing ammo feel so much better in terms of organization. Glad to see this becoming base kit.

@MrAtomicDuck what is the mod you are using to get your character's field of view so wide? vanilla has it sitting at like 45 degrees, but I see you and other youtubers with 180degree field of view, able to see the everything in front of you

Do we have any idea when build 42 is coming? I feel like I've seen news about it for years and its still not there

People seem to be really stuck on the fact that it’s taking this long to release, but I’m really happy that they are taking their time with it. Especially since they are providing very consistent updates which show the progress they have made on build 42. If it were anyone else, I may be more skeptical, but I feel pretty confident that it will be coming some time within this first half of 2024 or early in the second half.

The polishing of rooftops may not seem like a big deal compared to the rest dev blog but as someone who always liked the idea of setting up rooftop campsites I'm just as hyped for it as I am for basements/underground levels.

i really hope they add a fully functional sit and lie down system that works on all angled furnitures unlike the mod made for it or literally the floor they already have fork and spoons for the mere reason of eating from a can like a normal person or as a one time weapon i don't see why not!

I would really like to find a Claymore in a museum.

I am very happy for more crafted/improved weapons. I whould love to use cool new crafted weapons. I had this idea from the Last Of Us P1 where you can attach some sharp objects to a melee weapon to make it a 1 shot or nearly 1 shot for a couple of uses. This whould be very cool if they implement something like this. You always find like a million scizzors and stuff like this and it whould be cool if you have some tape and then you can attach them to a metal pipe for like 4 good high damage swings before the scizzor breaks off... I often collect the same types of weapons and just use that. I really hope with the new update there is more variation in weapons and also a lot of ''junk'' items get a some use. Right now you can ofcourse also craft spears and attach scizzors to them but I dont like spears.

I have faith in the future thanks to the new animation system, having horses and animations with other players, such as hugging, punching, length, this would greatly increase the game's roleplay

First half of the year, we are in day 120 out of 365, so, if they want to follow their timelines we need to get build 42 in 60 days. 2 months, i don't know how they announce updates but i hope they give out a date.

Maybe having notebook like items in the game which you find and have instructions for systems in the game is a good idea. Like having a book (or series of books) that will document the entire process of making leather, for the players. Kinda breaking the 4th wall.

All of this new stuff is nice, but for me the number one most important feature in B42 is the reworked netcode. Content is nice, but I've played about as much single-player as I feel like and multiplayer is still just way too unstable.

B42 is looking to be whole new level of game for PZ. Excited! :D

I am constantly amazed at the devs behind PZ, The Indie Stone. I have been playing this game for a decade now, that is a full ten years and they are constantly adding things. This game could of gone gold from build 38, but they continue to listen to their fan base and actually try to implement great ideas and gameplay, I honestly think the developers love their game and it won't be finished with it until their idea of how the game should be is complete. They look at mods and talk to modders, they have been known to help modders and even use some of their ideas in updates. But instead of just copying those mod ideas from the actual mods, they improve on them and give credit to modders for their ideas. They know without the modding community, their game may very well have died a long time ago. But it is growing stronger and stronger and bigger and bigger each year and each update. Can anyone name any AAA title in the last 20 years that has done this, or for that matter any AAA studio that actually has this business model of listening to players and talking to them and respecting their views and opinions and reward us with continuous massive updates and smaller updates in between. Any time Steam has awards, I always nominate The Indie Stone for as many as I can. Yes I am a fan boi, no I don't think every change has been out of this world great. But I do think even the updates and changes I don't agree with, all come together to make the game one of the best titles on the market today. I have purchased 7 Project Zomboid copies and given them to friends and even given one to my youngest son, who had just learnt to walk when I first bought and played the game. When he got a little older he would sit on my knee when I played, then we would take it turns playing it when was a little older. But now he is in his teens we bond over the game every weekend when we have time. To anyone thinking of buying the game, do your research and compare it to any other similar title, you will not be disappointed. This game has not left my hard drive for at least 7 years running. Other titles come and go, but Project Zomboid just keeps (cuming??) going strong. Build 42 is great and one biggest thing of looking forward to is sky scrapers. Giving amount of so many workloads to iron bugs and polish everything. Build 42 may release in December 2024 good timing for Xmas season. Worst case is it will delay to next year Feb 2025 OR Apr 2025. I want to prove it wrong yet December 2024 release month is more realistic to have it everything in place with smooth gameplay.

interesting feels like they are getting some ideas from CDDA as a fan of CDDA it is nice to see so many new weapons and armors being added even if they may never reach the insane amount CDDA have, but not every game needs a rock in a sock I guess. :) Anyway looking forward to the update Project Zomboid is my favorite zombie game and 2ed favorite survival game nothing yet beats CDDA when it comes to survival IMO.

I really wish they would develop and release a simple survivor companion for you to keep alive. A friend for the end of the world who won’t grief you. Doesn’t have to do anything complex. Just follow, stay, and maybe basic needs (food water) I love this game so much but I just want one friend back at base to come back to. It would be such a simple and lightweight addition while they continue developing full npcs but would revolutionize the gameplay in the meantime. Someone to store supplies for and protect. It could just be a simple pet(cat dog hamster) Hell I’ll take a skin coloured mannequin at this point. I’m just so tired of the late game boredom. You can only build yourself so many bases before it becomes pointless.

At this point build 42 seems like Hollow Knight Silksong. The devs want to do so much that they just end up never finishing, or atleast it seems that way. But thats just what it reminds me of and Im sure it will be finished this year (surely).
