It's a shame that most classes don't have the budget and most teachers don't have the skills to teach this way. When I was a kid I had a patio at home and frequently I would play with things like marbles blocking hoses and checking at what point the water would shoot the marble out and things like that. When I got to physics class, I loved that they had the explanation to many things I played with, and then I saw with surprise that my classmates could not understand the concepts because they had never observed the phenomena with attention. I could learn fine from the chalkboard and the book, but my classmates really needed the demonstration.

First this is a college lecture and a college certainly has the funds for this demonstration. Secondly they teach this way in lab portion of the class what are you talking about? I’m sure if a professor wanted to they could grab some materials from the labs and use them in class. But aside from dong this for hands on experience in lab. A professor would just show this through a simulation during the lecture portion.

Good summary of that feeling when everything clicks in your first physics class. The phenomena that you’ve observed and known to be true for years suddenly have numbers and math behind them, and it all fits together so perfectly. I remember learning about kinematics in my first physics class around age 13 or so, and I just thought that even the simplest explanations were so cool. Earning my degree in mechanical engineering now.

I mean, run with a ball, toss it up, keep running and you'll see it lands in your hand. If u stop running you'll see it land where you would've been had u not stopped. This is a physics lesson from 2nd grade, in a college classroom meant to... confirm the earth is spinning & u won't feel it? Lol Lol Lol Lol This is evidence of a losing argument & a final brainwashing attempt (some reminders work on most). Problem is - moons that orbit a 'planet' (like Jupiter) REALLY FAST, seem to experience no centrifugal or inertial forces on their surface. 😁 Gravity, in all its highly thorough & detailed understanding, is for tweaky people. They lack Questions. 🙂

Applies only when bus is not accelerating, If bus frame has an acceleration then on x axis there will be pseudo force acting on you and thus you will get pushed back.....

There is air resistance on the cart too. It's the funnel on top of the gun that is allowing the cart and ball to travel at slightly different rates yet still catch the ball.

Actually it doesn't cut off...the air drag is applied on both objects equally and hence there's no relative acceleration working along x axis.

The air drag was so neglible that the ball got intercepted at the surface area of that cone that proff. Lewin had placed. Amazing. That's why we often neglect that.

It is a special case analysis of projectile from a moving reference in this case ball is thrown vertically upward and if object is not moved it will certainly land in funnel but when it is moved the horizontal component of ball's velocity is equal to the velocity of moving object and velocity of ball in upward is given so when it is projected ball and object velocity in horizontal is same,so there is no relative motion between then is happened and both ball and moving object covered same horizontal Range.If it is projected with a certain angle theta then ball's horizontal velocity component ≠ object velocity component and ball's component>object's component As if ballis thrown by U velocity then vertical is U Sin theta and Horizontal will be U Cos theta+ velocity of moving object (V). Prof was much younger here... I'm so so proud of this mentor I never met in person. Made me fall and fall in love with physics over and over again. He's always enjoying himself teaching his understanding and thought in the laws and principle of the wonderful study of nature. Of course, physics will work if you understand it.

Physics should be a mandatory class for everyone. It lets us understand so much. Like PV/T. If we know that, we know that if we take the radiator cap off our overheating car, 2 things can happen with the loss of pressure. Either the temperature or the volume of the coolant will increase. probably a little of both meaning scalding hot coolant in our face. If one understands basic physics, so many things become predictable.

Prof Lewin is one of the most important teachers of Physics in the last 20 years. He taught the important basics at MIT! He made sure that the 3 courses he taught were clear and concise. Plus he showed us the fantastic fun that Physics could be!

Most people in high schools around the world learn projectile motion in 11th or 12th grade. You Indians are not special, however, you guys really are good at annoying people around you. If only you guys could understand that just because you learn something at an early level in your education does not mean that you will not forget it later on and need a refresher.

Which is why you can jump in a moving bus and land in the same spot. If you're on the roof, however, the wind/ friction causes you to slow down in relation to the moving bus and you fall to your death behind it.

@@Waterlesswater They also learn this in high school as well. This course is for those who didnt choose physics in high school and went with other subjects. They have a choice to pick any combination of subjects rather than picking from 3 options.
