We installed 3 wooden decks to relax, do yoga, picknick or land your mini helicopter.
They are made from 3 diffferent types of wood (Eucalyptus, Red Cedar, Pine) to see how they behave overtime in this climate.

I work for a UV technology company specializing in liquid food processing. We may be able to donate some of our "old" unused UV lamps and ballasts if you are interested in increasing the UV dose. I am not sure what the dose of the UV lamp you installed is, but it needs to be sufficiently high, which I assume is the case. I am curious how you took the sample for testing? Typically we take samples where we measure microbes like coliforms e.g E. Coli using a needle syringe, as it is very easy to contaminate a sample. You could also have contaminated the piping from after where you installed the UV lamp so even if you have microbe free water after passing the lamp, it will still get contaminated from the source if e.g the pipes to the kitchen were not cleaned after the system was installed. You could try to chemically clean the piping system from the UV sytem to the kitchen and then retest. The shipment conditions of the sample can also have a big impact if the sample was shipped at a too high temperature, but really you don't want any E. Coli in the water what so ever and they are very UV sensitive, so they should all be inactivated by the lamp which leads me to believe that you have contaminated pipes after the lamp or contamination during sampling. Hope this helps. All the best :)

I agree about contamination remaining in the pipe work. But I have a horrible strong suspicion that contamination is actually getting in from the Well itself through the poorly seated Well cap that's clearly shown in earlier videos. The gaps around the Well are huge & creatures can /will have fallen in & drowned & be decaying in the Well water itself before it even reaches their pipes! This would explain the struggle for the filters & UV to do their jobs. You're right, there should be no ecoli etc. detectable at all in the water after UV sterilisation. I also hope they read my post main post. They need to address underlying issues before thinking about pipes, filters & further testing. Once the Well is properly sealed then cleaned again, the pipes can then be flushed with chlorine & then the water should be fine 👍

Ladder Snake should have two dark lines on it's back, this has one and the tummy coloration and scale formation is also different, from Ladder Snake.. It actually looks somehow like a cross between Grass Snake (tummy dark spots - no clear light collar, but a little lightening there, that Ladder should not have) and a Ladder Snake (only one line and the cheek-V & tear line) - but would those happen?

False smooth snake, is what that's called. Not a Ladder snake. Their fangs are in the back of their throat, believe it or not, so they have to force their prey (lizards and rodents) to the back to envenomate them. Because of this, they pose no risk to humans, and are typically docile whether provoked or not. However, I'd still give them a wide berth and let them on their way.

Hi guys. Great video. I’m going to help you solve a few issues…. 1) your UV light should be on a contractor or relay that only comes on when the pump comes on. I have seen many issues with it staying in and heating too much and cracking the quartz sleeve. If you touch it with your skin the main issue is shade and oil on the glass that will overheat. Handle with new cloth gloves or if by hand wipe it with denaturated alcohol 2) the chloroform you will handle it with GAC (granulated activated carbon. Measure what the LPM is just for the drinking and cooking.. irrigation and showers is fine with chloramines

How about putting the UV on a loop so it’s continually treating the locally stored water? Keeps the unit cool and provides additional exposure?
@lilyy
@lilyy 2 жыл бұрын
@@vaalrus that’s the ideal situation. But for that you need a tank and a second pump. That’s what’s called a squirrel tail system. I believe they have a pump to pump out the well and if they already have a storage tank they can do the uv loop, the uv will also reduce TOC’s When installing the GAC filter install it at outlet don’t do a loop with it, let it soak for 6 hours before using and try to get crushed coconut shells carbon. It’s the best

Just a note on the water report you showed. Coliformes Tatais (Total coliform) bacteria are commonly found in the environment (e.g., soil or vegetation) and are generally harmless. Your critical readings for the sub-coliforms of E.Coli and Enterococos (which is fecal coliform) are 0, and the Clostridiums are 0, which are the critical ones to worry about. In your results, since E.coli is absent, but only total coliforms are present, it could mean one of three things: • A layer of bacteria may have developed within your well or plumbing system. This layer of bacteria is called a biofilm. • Surface water may be getting into your well. This increases the risk of animal waste contaminating your water sooner or later. • Your well water may come from an aquifer that contains bacteria. This can happen when groundwater comes from a shallow source. The bottom line is that, while your results may not meet 100% of drinkable water specifications, you are probably fine. Given the state of your old well (not really sealed, etc), if you really want to completely bring the water into drinkable specifications, you'll need to upgrade or add to your water filtration/sterilization process. You could do this in a variety of ways such as adding a secondary UV system to increase the amount of time the water spends under UV light, a filtration system that can remove much smaller elements such as a reverse osmosis system, or by adding a chlorine disinfection system (which you indicated that you did not want to do).
@rodneyholland1867
@rodneyholland1867 2 жыл бұрын
I agree, having worked for municipal water supply systems it is impossible to eliminate total coliforms due to natural biofilm generation in the distribution system. There are no "nasties" (E.Coli, Faecal coliforms etc) in the lab results, so I would feel completely safe drinking this water from a bacteriological point of view.
@DaDunge
@DaDunge 2 жыл бұрын
E coli is not a dangerous bacteria, it's just indicative of fecal matter in the water and is the hardiest of the coliform bacteria hence why we test for it. But there are far more dangerous fecal bacteria than e coli however they are harder to test for and not as hardy.
@rodneyholland1867
@rodneyholland1867 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaDunge E.Coli is both an indicator and a pathogen. E.Coli can cause some very severe sickness... I'm not sure where you get the idea it is "not dangerous".
@DaDunge
@DaDunge 2 жыл бұрын
@@rodneyholland1867 It's what our teachers said when I took a university course on the subject earlier this spring. Thta when we dealt with e coli in the lab the bacterial loads were such that e coli went form a fairly non dangerous bacteria to a much worse one. We have a lake on campus, it's got e coli in it and people swim there all the time and i would estimate than 1/10 manage to swallow water and no one has gotten sick from it as far as I know.
@rodneyholland1867
@rodneyholland1867 2 жыл бұрын
@@DaDunge Interesting your teacher said that. From my experience in drinking water management I don't fully agree. There is some truth in the comment though as many E.Coli can be benign, but there are numerous strains that are dangerous. It can make someone very sick or lead to death in immune compromised. The testing techniques which are the most cost effective do not distinguish between the nasty E.Coli and the benign ones, hence having any detection as being a likely problem... Yes, you are right though about having a large E.Coli load which will increase risk substantially. Without knowing what type of E.Coli it is important to assume it is not a healthy one! In the presence of other faecal indicators it will be a red-flag. Given the lab results for this case show none, I'd be confident drinking this water... if it had E.Coli detections I'd at least boil it before drinking and review the treatment system. There is a hierarchy of pathogens which apply to drinking water the first indicator is Total coliforms, then Thermotolerant Coliforms generally, then E.Coli, then Enterococci, then crypto oocysts. The first on the list are indicators grading into actual problems. Interesting you should mention swimming too, in Australia where I live the guidelines recommend no swimming in town water supply lakes because the amount of pathogens mobilised by swimming is extreme and there is usually a mixture of different pathogens (mainly E.Coli types). It is always good to have a multi-barrier approach to reduce the risk and putting reliance on one system will often lead to a catestrophic failure (there are so many good (bad) case studies from US water treatment failures - thanks USA for doing the mistakes so the rest of the world can learn from it!!!)

Regarding the water filter: I've been hiking for a long time and there is an inexpensive filter that I think could solve your problem, the Sawyer squeeze (not the micro nor the mini) . It is 0.1 microns which is industrial grade and the flow is interesting. It would require the occasional backwash and probably an adaptor to put in the kitchen faucet. The durability of the filter is huge. The biggest inconvenience is that I haven't found it for sale in Europe.

Looking at the head its a narrow triangilar form which is an indication of non-venomous . Great to see the upgrades to the Kamp! Also curious to find out how the UV filter works out... would be great to have an update with a professional & medical assessment of the water's drinkability. I imagine that the filter has an effective flow rate for it to function properly & you may be pushing water too fast for the UV-C rays to kill the bacteria before it gets out of the system. I love learning about the Kampers though I'm a bit sad that they're leaving but am very happy for them & the next leg of their adventure. :D

Coliform bacteria will not likely cause illness on their own, the issue is that they (can) indicate that disease-causing organisms could be in the water but with the filtration system & UV that seems unlikely. As others have said, it might be a good idea to get another test.
