Since @2:43 this motif is beautiful, but when @3:07 choirs starts singing - it is outworldy. I imagine the chaotic chase of Russian forces by Kinghts of Teutonic Order and Brothers of the Sword - all seems lost. But when motif in @4:15 - there is a spark of hope. This is a motif for hero and for Alexander Nevsky who is joining a battle. It is noble and right in time. And then - the battle continues.

Gergiev is the only one capable of directing this piece. My point of view. Russian directors, composers, conductors, ballet dancers, cinematographers, opera singers are truly the best, too bad the Americans have a hard time acknowledging their cultural forces. Shame on KZfaq to put an add in the middle of such a masterpiece.

Гергиев умело создаёт настроение и соответствующее состояние. Один из немногих дирижёров , способный выразить максимально в звуке оркестра. Браво!
@thisIsVasilius5 жыл бұрын
разве этим занимается не тот, кто оркеструет произведение?
@ediccartman72524 жыл бұрын
@@thisIsVasilius разумеется и он тоже. Но задача дирижера выявить все богатство оркестровой ткани , тембровое разнообразие заложенное в сочинении.

1:51 is Russian "Jaws"! Seriously, a fantastic performance. Due to a broken hand, I missed a chance to play under Gergiev when the Kirov ballet came to Cleveland 22 years ago. My colleagues raved about him.

Very moving rendition of the mezzo solo. If I'd been at the concert, I'd have cried, and I wager many people there would have done so also.

Yes, she is crying here about Russian warriors killed in the battle with Crusaders and says she won't get married with the most handsome but with the bravest of them.

Yes, I know that Prokofiev is Russian! I forget that he was in exile, but I have known and loved "Alexander Nevsky" since 1965. I am old! Also, I love Eisentein's other movies and Prokofiev's music, such as "Battleship Potemkin" and "Ivan the Terrible". However, the video is ahead of the sound by about 1 second. Can you not see that? It's still a GREAT live performance. Thanks so much! :)

You do know that Prokofiev is Russian? And that he was in exile in 1923-1936 in US and France and returned to Soviet Russia because nobody in the West cared for his music? And that ALL his masterpieces are written in Russia?
@aguador674 жыл бұрын
... and one of his wifes was Spanish... and she was held in a Gulag "labor camp" charged as a "spy" and "traitor" (as usual in these times) ? Yes, we also know...

Really nice performance! It's nice to know that Prokofiev is honored in Russia as much as he is in the west. Unfortunately, the sound and video are out of sync. Terrific management of the accelerando around 3:40 or so.

I think I'm just to go back to CDs because the streaming services play classical that sounds tinny and cheap, and KZfaq is relentless--utterly relentless, like mosquitos--with their advertisements. Not at all how classical music should be listened to. They invent this technology, and then they ruin it. Bye-Bye. I'm getting a new CD player or--better yet--a new turntable. KZfaq is shit.
