That's what I was thinking. It's like a knockoff D4C but stronger.

I loved my Rainbow D4, but the pervious owner was a smoker, and once the motor warmed up...I could not get rid of that smell! That's the thing with refurbished old vacuums I guess. I am hopeful and excited about this one too. Water vacuums have some cool uses and features.

I had a Rainbow D4 for a few months before passing it on, but it didn't make my allergies or asthma worse. I let it dry out between uses. People neglect cleaning the separaters, which needs to be done every 2-3 uses, imo, or they get moldy and collect a lot of wet dust. But a quick rinse, and every now and then a soak in warm soapy water keeps it clean. Water's not the best filter, but most air vacuums aren't sealed enough so air escapes before even reaching the HEPA filter.

The water and the Rainbow, if properly maintained, has HEPA level trapping capability at 99.97% down to 0.3 μm on its own. Picking up fine powdery substances like talc, gypsum (drywall) dust, fire place ash and flour aren't easily absorbed into the water and that's what the HEPA is in part there for. The other part is if you use your Rainbow like an air purifier, if someone neglects to maintain the water level, it is at least catching those particles. Also, the Rainbow doesn't necessarily meet particle counters because water evaporates slightly in the Rainbow and it's most likely the water being picked up by said counter, a device, when used for its intended purpose, is used to evaluate clean room air filter efficiency. HVAC and vacuum shops decided to use them as a gimmick for selling vacuum cleaners. The same can be said for suction, baird and working water lift gimmicks. The same small particles I mentioned weren't able to be trapped in the water bath shouldn't be picked up with ANY household vacuum as opposed to a Rainbow E2, E or D4 unit as well as wet and dry utility vacuums, would kill the flow-through motors through insufficient cooling air causing them to overheat.

The other brands are just as good if not better. The Rainbow power nozzles do not clean my carpet very well. The power nozzle on the Prolux CTX and Ritello is the same on on the Miele C3 vacs, and the nozzle is built by Wessel-Werk. It’s the best power nozzle in the industry. It’s sealed, it grabs the carpet, it agitates and grooms extremely well, it utilizes suction super well, and has adjustable carpet height. The Italian motor in the Prolux, Ritello, and Sirena is the same and many vacuum enthusiast claim it has way more suction than the Rainbow. I am unimpressed with my SRX, as it does not have as much suction as my old vac did and not nearly as much as my Miele C3, which filters just as well as the HEPA-equipped Rainbows. It’s the only non-water vacuum that filters just as well, in my experience.

@@Cleaning_Hero The Rainbow SRX is a totally failed and flawed product; all vacuum enthusiasts across the board unanimously agree on that one. So much so that dealers are unable to sell the SRXs and are actually trying to buy any of the older E2 Series (2 Speed) to refurbish and demo in customers homes. The used market is flooded with SRXs because they are terrible machines. Rexair actually redesigned the power nozzle this year in hopes of improving the performance of the machine, but I don't think it has helped. I cannot speak for the other models as I have never owned them, but I'm sure they also work well. The Prolux has NO HEPA exhaust filter - the other models do. Wessel-Werk makes excellent power nozzles and I think you could easily outfit a Rainbow with one if you wanted to. The one I have works well so I'm happy with it!

@@Cleaning_Hero I found the opposite, Wessel heads are well designed and perform on par with most Rainbow and Eureka Sweep 'n' Groom heads, if not a bit worse as there isn't as much agitation. Also, they aren't easily as serviceable like a Rainbow nozzle. You can buy belts, brush rolls of different bristle densities and other things for a Rainbow nozzle fairly easily but I have yet to locate these things for my Wessel heads. Wessel heads may be more prone to leakage and buildup around the neck than the PN12 due to not utilizing a hose coupling in the neck. Sebo's a bit better design-wise but the same somewhat applies to it especially since it is incredibly proprietary in nature. You have to use its wands with it instead of being a fairly standard self-docking design that Wessel uses. Also, unlike European designers, Rexair uses the KISS rule, making the design relatively simple to work on, making it a head that end users can fix without electronics inside (with the exception of the LED bar, but it's just a headlight and bus bar for the motor). The other units aren't without their problems as well, the Italian motor in the copies is not at all serviceable like Rainbow motors. I watched a tear down video of one and the guy literally had to break it to get it apart. Rainbows, including the SRX have motors that can be pulled apart, cleaned, parts replaced and put back together and the machine will run like new. I did this on my E2 Black where I replaced the fans and cleaned it, and I did it again recently when I got a new HEPA filter. The E2 Black comes apart down to the motor in less than five minutes where as some older models of Rainbow and these clones you have to spend time removing screws. This isn't just a problem with the copies, but also with most other "boutique" vacuum cleaners from Miele and Sebo and with their tiny little motors, I could see that motor being replaced multiple times in the lifespan of one Rainbow. Some people may not repair their Mieles and instead of buying a new one, same for Sebo, and just buying three of those, the expensive filters and bags you may as well invest in a Rainbow. I know that the Rainbow isn't for everyone, but it is still a superior machine to these copies. The SRX actually has air flow similar to the E Series single speed, and with the PN12 being reintroduced on the SRX, it should operate just fine for most people's needs. Please take into account that bagged vacuums need more cleaning power (you erroneously called it suction for some reason when airflow is most of the necessary cleaning power) because they are pulling through, how many layers of filtration? Three to four in most bagged machines, but reaching higher to even six on some models. The Rainbow already out cleans most vacuums with only one physical layer of filtration (water) and the HEPA remains cleaner in part due to being a bypass machine without carbon brushes. It also doesn't need to have high power as it only uses water and one chunky HEPA, a HEPA that's probably 4-6 times the surface area of a similarly priced Miele HEPA that has to be replaced every six months while Rainbows can go at most half a decade. HEPA bags or not, you still lose airflow in these machines over time compared to a Rainbow.

@@Jordan-nj2ve I wouldn't say failed, it is flawed due to the rigid two quart only capacity, smaller motor and was released with a power head that a number of issues, but from what I have read, improvements have been made to it including the re-introduction of the PN12 and better components in the separator. It has some improvements like the hose latching system, two extra speeds, larger HEPA filter, improved cord storage and easier to remove water basin.

Since I haven't torn down a CTX, I'm not sure how easy they are to service.

Well, my first Rainbow was only CA$150 and that was a used D4 it wasn't 20 years old when I got it. Since then I have been able to get other D4 machines but I was able to get one from a customer for only a few hours work and it was in like-new condition. I was also able to get an E2 type 12 black for $150 as well but I also have almost every attachment available since. RainVac is a wonderful resource for these things.

It's because it is, it uses the Plastiflex design. The Wessel-Werk power nozzle and wand are really central vac parts. The machine is mostly North American made and I know the stainless steel power nozzle wand is made in Canada.

I specifically didn't request that add on. But you can see a similar Rainbow shampooer in use in one of the older mini meets.

They are both very similar, but the Prolux is much cheaper when purchased new.

Since this machine mostly emits water vapor, it will be excellent for allergy sufferers.

To be fair, the vast majority of household fine dust will be captured in the water. In the rare occasion of encountering non water soluable dust, it will pass through this machine. Also, remember that this model emits fine water particles, so the humidity levels will always rise somewhat.

Oh, and just because a vacuum is missing a HEPA exhaust filter, that does NOT mean it spews dust. HEPA exhaust filters are primarily made to capture carbon brush emissions from the motor. Not dirt particles.
