I don´t know why everyone is hating on the movie. (bare with me here) Yes, it´s a movie set in an Alien universe and it may or not be a prequel/sequel call it what ever, that answers a lot of questions that made first Alien so special, i get that specially when it comes to hard fan base. BUT it is still a good Sci-fi movie. (Definitively better that Hollywood´ish take on AVP movies) I enjoyed it, minus the deaths witch could have been better executed since the movie is all about the tense atmosphere. None the less it´s a good flick. OK, now you can punch me.

+Mike I also enjoyed a lot Prometheus; it´s perfect? No, it´s far to be it. Does the plot have troubles? Of course (personally Filfield and Millburn both are more a failed comic reliefs than serious ones due lack of development) but still I think it deserves to be in the Alien Universe. Hopefully Ridley Scott and the new writter would fix such issued for Alien Paradiste Lost.

***** Well, more than plot holes I would say chararacter developments issues as the Fifield and Millburn characthers and yes, lot of people were angry cause they want the answers all served in a fancy tray (it´s like a David Lynch film). I thinks Prometheus in its way it´s a great film, it´s not an action film, it´s just sci fi, not the cup of tea for anybody.
@Gridseeker
@Gridseeker 8 жыл бұрын
***** Me too! David was by far the star of this movie. I think one of the flaws of this movie was the trailer teased at the end of 2011 (it showed a lot of key scenes as the Engineers), also Fox and Ridley relied too much on internet virals. Probably Prometheus would not be "classics" as other underrated gems when they were released as Blade Runner or Metropolis but still a very competent in it´s genre and a very solid addition to the Alien universe, in fact Alien 3 was very criticez due lot of people expected the same formula executed by James Cameron but nowadays is considered a classic.

It answered no questions. In fact, it raised more questions than it did answer. I absolutely hate the idea of the engineers being "Our makers" I wouldn't mind it so much if it didn't tamper with Alien lore. Saying it's better than AVP isn't much... at all...

Not the greatest of films, but certainly not terrible either. It was disappointing, but I still enjoyed it. My main problem's with it was some of the dialogue, the fact that there were too many characters, and the fact that the entire film is basically sequel-bait. It raises all these questions and never answers a single one. On the plus side of this film, the cinematography is gorgeous and the visual effects are some of the best out there. Also, Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender were easily the best parts of this film. I just hope the sequel can make up for the mistakes of this film.
@IngenFiles

***** If this film was supposed to be a mystery film, I'd have no problem with it. It isn't, though. It's a sci-fi horror film. It shouldn't raise a bunch of questions and never answer a single one. And now, it's unlikely we'll ever get a sequel (at the very least, not with Ridley Scott attached).
@IngenFiles
@IngenFiles 10 жыл бұрын
***** It's trying to be horror as well a mystery/sci-fi film. It doesn't really hit any of those marks well, though. And I know filming is set to begin at the end of 2014 on Prometheus 2. However, I wouldn't be surprised if it was canned before then. However, I'll remain hopeful because I want the mistakes of the first film to be fixed and I'd like it to lead more into Alien. I'd venture to guess that Ridley Scott won't direct the film, though. He already has two projects he wants to do that aren't Prometheus 2. Well, actually 3 now counting Halo.

Dear God (irony intended) I am sick of films that portray faith as as a desirable, or indeed an essential, trait. Apparently belief in some sort of nebulous deity is a requirement if you want to survive a film like this. Actually thinking about things rationally gets you killed.
@DodderingOldMan
@DodderingOldMan 9 жыл бұрын
***** Aw, now my feelings are hurt. First, to return in kind: go fuck yourself. Second, you're right, it doesn't affect me. However, it is a film that relies on something I find fairly stupid and morally questionable, and which is still broadly socially accepted. To my mind it's roughly comparable to a film that has as its central premise the virtue of racism. You'd be pissed off about something like that, right? Right? Even though it didn't affect you, or force you to believe in it. You might disagree with my evaluation of faith and religion, but I hope you can at least understand it. Pity you had to be such an arsehole about it.
@DodderingOldMan
@DodderingOldMan 9 жыл бұрын
***** Oh, c'mon... those films may be *about* racism, but they do not expound racism as a virtue, quite the contrary. I'm talking more about a film like Birth of a Nation, which has a viewpoint that, fortunately, is no longer considered socially acceptable.
@kernalfleak
@kernalfleak 9 жыл бұрын
The film was about figuring out where we come from and shit. They only showed a few god related stuff with the main woman character. Now when did wanting to understand how we are here and why become such a stupid topic? Just because you dont believe in a specific god or religion doesnt mean you are more right than anybody else. You cant explain why we are here today either. Science cant prove that and neither can faith in god. Dont believe if you dont want to. Just dont think youre better than everyone else for not thinking that.
@johndoe9596
@johndoe9596 9 жыл бұрын
kernel fleak "You can't explain why we are here today either." Well, that's an easy one: We have to be. What exists, exists because it must; our understanding of the reason is incidental. The equation that unspools reality in its infinite states is unbound and tautological; inasmuch, we are but one representation of its syntax, the evolving complexity of which gives way to ever increasing daedel semantics. No matter if the origin of our particular subset of existent form ushered forth from a hyper-advanced sentience or was the simple unfolding of incrementally compounding complexity unto a mirror state (wherein the configuration of the existent object duplicates the nature and function of reality itself, effectively doubling back reality into a Möbius strip of self-generative, self-modeling recursion), the fact is that reality is necessarily self-contained, self-caused, and self-propagating, encompassing all that is without boundary (what is real enough to exist would exist within reality, a tautology that precludes the possibility of being "beyond what is" [logically impossible]). Now, as far as giving relative, pragmatic and historically relevant explanations for our current state, that's highly speculative and as-of-yet unproven. But what can be said, without question, is that 1.) Reality exists, 2.) Reality is all that can be, 3.) Reality necessitates the promulgation of every possible state, and 4.) Something as unbound as reality necessarily is infinite in complexity. The moralistic takeaway, salient to Prometheus' theme: Creation is synchronous with the passage of time, and bears no prejudice or preference. While we can hope the forces that ushered us forth seek our maximized relative utility and the emotion such self-actualization realizes ("happiness"), the impetus can run the gamut from beatific conception, indifference, or most inimically outright hostility. It's the creator's prerogative alone, "creator" meant in its most unanthropomorphic sense (i.e. preceding state). We will simply respond as the equation dictates, and through the sequence of events give passage to one more manifestation-maladious, empyreal and every increment in between. We fear pain. Most of all, we fear the possibility that pain is more than a dispassionate eventuality marking the pole of a spectrum of states, the worst feasibility of which is that our pain is the aim. While Prometheus doesn't paint such a bleak relationship between humankind and the Engineers, it does hint that they are as unconcerned with our unique states as we are of the animals we selectively breed for food, resource, recreation or hobby. "There's nothing special about the creation of life" could be amended thusly: "There's nothing sacred about life." Such a sentiment can equally be a salve to fears of existential selectivity or a horror to fears of our indeterminate inevitabilies. And if "god" is synonymous with "reality," then it's true: He does not play favorites.
@kernalfleak
@kernalfleak 9 жыл бұрын
John Doe did you copy this from a movie or some scientist quote? omg you used big words to respond to me which means that you are absolutely right. how you proposed we are here and why we exist was based on rules of physics and sciences that make up the world we are in. but? what makes these rules work and function? i believe that a supernatural force beyond my human understanding created the physics and tools needed to make such a world possible. this force maybe made me because it can. and i both love it for for giving me the opportunity to live in this beautiful world and i fear it because of how beyond intelligent and powerful this force that i fell helpless and small when i think of it.. what you gave me is a theory as to how we are here, you based this theory on existing laws and rules that make this theory theoretically possible. but you failed to explain to me how these rules and laws came to exist. maybe the reason as to why i dont say that i dont believe in god is because the explanation as to why god is there is something that my mind cannot understand and process. my mind has always worked based on my surroundings. i understand things because i feel them with my senses. if the reason why god exists cannot be understood by the senses he gave me then i will never understand it. so i just believe that such a force exists and that it wants something from me and thats something my brain can manage. i try not to thing of the reason why he exists because i know im not gonna find that answer in the world he made me in. and sure you could disagree with me and look at me funny for believing in this, and i can look at you the same way for basing your entire existence on a theory that a. hasn't been proven yet and b. is based on rules of physics and sciences that you cant explain as to why they exist from the first place. so no you are not better than religious people for believing in such a force. you too believe in something that has not proven itself to exist. in Prometheus the main girl even said that the engineers might have made us but what made them remains uncertain. so both atheists and religious people have good claims as to why we exist. i myself can understand agnostics as they dont believe in any of the religions we have on earth but are open to accept the truth once its given to them, its atheists that i feel sorry for and i dont want to be placed in their shoes. the thought that i will end up having the same fate as child rapers and murderers is horrible to me. there just must be a higher purpose to our existence and it doesnt make me less of person then you are to believe in that

Well, Alien fans thought it was disappointing because the film was marketed as a prequel to Alien when it really wasn't. That's not to say everyone else thought it was great, though, because Alien aside, the film was still disappointing because the trailers were great while the film itself was sort of poor. Not terrible, but not great either. And it raised more questions than it did answers and that was disappointing. And some of the dialogue and acting was poor.

@michaelling1026
@michaelling1026 9 жыл бұрын
Ahvi303 all movies have mistakes, to say this film is disappointing is in itself an overstatement; it grossed highly and was in the top 30 box office for 2012. Like the majority this film did not disappoint me in any way, it was visually appealing and the acting was key to Ridley's script styles; robotic and unnerving. If you have seen Blade Runner you would know what I mean, the whole purpose of the robotic acting was to make you question the humanity in the film; who could you trust? Like cHeStEr5434 said, the movie still has a second part, and when you say it doesn't excuse the mistakes of the first film you have to realise that the mistakes in your head are purely opinionated and not factual. Just because you thought the acting was poor and the dialogue was bad in parts does not qualify them as mistakes, I'm not saying you can't have an opinion, otherwise I wouldn't be allowed to criticise your comment. So you seriously have no basis on the matter of the film being a mistake, it was well thought out and left us thinking. People need to realise (like yourself) that directors have artistic license when it comes to their movies, not everyone is supposed to like it; this movie might be in the Alien universe but it is not Alien, it is it's own movie. The questions put forward were made to be answered in the sequels not the movie Alien itself, and so those that did not like the movie (I won't generalise Alien fans as I am one, and loved this film) who use the whole "Alien" card need to stop, and then you say "Alien aside" when you are really just going back around in a cycle; it was a purposeful move to leave things unanswered. The trailer itself was just showing interest in the movie by alerting people it was set in the same universe as Alien, many trailers have done this before and I doubt it will become a benign marketing ploy. All I'm saying is every single bloody comment is criticising the movie's actors and script, when in actuality they are annoyed it didn't end with a young CGI Ripley showing up out of nowhere for some much needed movie nourishment. He is adding to a universe crafted on the art of H.R Giger and numerous movies from Alien to Aliens to Alien vs Predator etc. why? Because Ridley doesn't want the Alien universe to die, just like Lucas didn't want the Star Wars universe to die and Gene Roddenberry when he didn't want the Star Trek universe to end. If anything you should be thankful he's made this movie for the next generation, I was glad this movie wasn't like Alien at all; because Alien should stay Alien and Prometheus should stay Prometheus. Sure it was marketed to look like Alien and sure people hated this film but if I went to your favourite movie's trailer, left a comment describing how all of the fans of a similar previous movie hated it (calling it a failed prequel and shoddy) wouldn't you too post criticism against my comment? This wasn't just against you, so when you see my essay of a comment don't take it the wrong way; those that hated the movie should at least confront the notion that it was a fantastic film and deserved whatever credit it got. As of now I am looking forward to the sequel.
@ahvi3038
@ahvi3038 9 жыл бұрын
Michael Ling To start, I wasn't saying the film was a financial disappointment. It wasn't. I'm saying it disappointed a lot of people because they were told to believe this film would be a prequel to Alien and what they ended up getting was an okay film that was barely connected to the Alien storyline and answered almost none of the questions it raised. That, however, is not why I was disappointed with it. I was disappointed with it because I thought it was poorly written and with the exception of Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, it was poorly acted as well. That's the way I see it anyway. To say there's going to be a sequel isn't an excuse for all the unanswered questions the film raises, though, because for a long time this film wasn't going to get a sequel. We're lucky we're getting one now. A film like Prometheus should have felt more like a stand-alone film and left us with just one or two unanswered questions to make us want a sequel, but be satisfied with the first film as a whole if we didn't get one. And as a filmmaker myself, I completely understand what artistic license is. I wasn't expecting the film to directly tie in with Alien, though. I just wanted enough for me to feel like it's the same universe (which I sort of got). Like I said, though, a lot of people were expecting the film to tie directly into Alien because the marketing for the film and the producers said as much. It wasn't until after the film was released that people were told it wasn't supposed to directly tie into Alien and you can imagine how disappointing that can be: to be promised a prequel to a film you love only to be slapped in the face with a film that's far from what was promised. All this being said, though, keep in mind I don't hate Prometheus. I own the special edition Blu-Ray of the film and I'm looking forward to the sequel and I hope they answer the questions raised in the first film. As it stands, though, to me Prometheus is still disappointing but when I watch it I enjoy it. I just hope the sequel is one of those sequels that makes the first film even better.

I saw Prometheus and I had mixed feelings. As an avid Alien fan, I was disappointed that the explanation for the Alien xenomorph race wasn't clearly established which I was expecting. However, I did enjoy the overall plot and ideas behind the prequel making the film almost a separate entity. So I'm left with the question that I was hoping to get answered: Was the xenomorph race created deliberately by the Engineers (Mala'kak) or was it a freak accident as a result of their zest for creating life on new planets?? Thoughts?

I am not being a fanboy. I have only seen 2 Ridley Scott films... Alien and Prometheus. It answered the question "what was that thing in the chair?" in Alien. It didn't answer everything, but if it did, everyone would complain that it was just a prequel that gave audiences nothing new to think about. Ridley Scott, not only created a world that answered questions from one of his finest films, but also gave new question so he could further expand on his masterpieces.

The Xenomorph which came outta the engineers body was a Queen which laid eggs later. (See her mouth and body) The "help" message they received in Alien 1 was the message of David and the Doctor. These "weapons" were Genetic stuff which breed those Alien Kraken(forgot the name) and these Breed Xenomorphs. The Xenomorph is perfect bc it was made ona Planet which needs all that to Survive. ((Bad eyes)-none included) Engineers made the Xenomorph. Hope you idiots get the meaning of the film now... not to hard to understand. 1. The thing that came out of the engineer's body was a Deacon, not a Xenomorph. Your theory about the Deacon being a Xenomorph Queen doesn't even make sense. We've seen a Xenomorph Queen before in Alien 3 and Resurrection. 2. The help message couldn't have been from David and Shaw because they were on LV-223, not LV-426. 3. "These "weapons" were Genetic stuff which breed those Alien Kraken(forgot the name) and these Breed Xenomorphs. The Xenomorph is perfect bc it was made ona Planet which needs all that to Survive. ((Bad eyes)-none included)" - That is so horrendously worded, I can't even figure out what you're trying to say. 4. "Hope you idiots get the meaning of the film now..." Any black man sleeping with a white woman is declaring war on my race; any white woman who would allow it is a traitor. Perhaps Charlize has never actually slept with a black man; but by promoting it as natural by those words; she has done worse. She has stated to white women that this act of treason is acceptable.
