Samajwadi Party (SP) Member of Parliament (MP) RK Chaudhary's recent comments on the Sengol have ignited a political controversy. Chaudhary questioned the presence of Sengol in Parliament, calling it a symbol of monarchy.
"The Constitution is the symbol of democracy. The BJP government, under PM Modi, installed the Sengol in Parliament. 'Sengol' means 'Raj-Dand' or 'Raja ka Danda'. After ending the princely order, the country became independent. Will the country be run by 'Raja ka danda' or the Constitution? I demand that Sengol be removed from Parliament to save the Constitution," said Chaudhary.
Meanwhile, prominent Tamil voices slammed the SP MP and that ‘Sengol’ represented the upliftment of ‘Dharma’

Yes, religion based reservations should be abolished. Every one should be be treated as equal irrespective of religion unlike in Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh where minorities are on the verge of extinction. Real secularism should be imposed rather than fake one. No grants for Madrassa, Waqaf board etc. If there are any hatred teachings, it should be abolished etc.

As a non tamilian, SENGOL is not what modi did, it was our first PM Jawaharlal nehru who took sengol in his hands as a symbolic gesture of transfer of power from british hands to indian hands. Hence, sengol doesn't represent any king's baton, it is the idol of religion of democracy itself, where sengol represents the people of india and their right to self determination and self rule. Sengol represents our sovereignty. This sp mp is trying to misconstrue the meaning. First he should tell why his party is in alliance with NEHRU's party? If u really believe in what u r saying, why r u holding hands with congress, becoz congress brought sengol. Modi has used it to strengthen the unity and integrity of india. I cant really believe that such narrow minded people claim their inspiration from ambedkar ji. May be ambedkar sir was also narrow minded. These days anything that slightly relates to our historic glory, somebody has an issue. Its like we hindus as a majority are getting buried under the tyranny of the minority. The more we accommodate , the more we r cornered. Its like i m a hindu so i hav to think abt collectivism but minorities can be outright selfish and mean. Is this how the constitution makers envisioned the future? Hindu majority dont hav any rights on their personal laws, religious schooling, our temples aren't even in our control.

*Did they forget that Our national emblem is a symbol of Ashoka* ? Did India become Mouran empire?? *Are they fools or trying to make people fools* ? Why can't a democratic republic adopt a "symbol" from its past?? And interpret it in a constitutional way.

On top of Singul there is a symbol of Bull and bull is the symbol of Dharma. Dharma means Justice and Knowledge. As I understand that SENGOL is the symbol of power transfer from British INDIA to Indian people - received by Nehru from Mountbotten . It was a proud moment to see that India and Indians attained freedom from Imperial Britain and Sengol which represents justice and DHARMA - epitomized the transfer of power to native Indians . Thus it is a cultural symbol also , in consonance with indian constitution is well understood.
