3:57- Speaking about "CHER", a CBS executive recalled, "It was like seeing Abbott without Costello". Sonny reteamed with her in January 1976, and they lasted another season and a half.

2:42- "Gidget Grows Up" was an attempt to revive the "franchise" for TV (with Karen Valentine obviously standing in for Sally Field). ABC passed on it as a weekly series, and "burned it off" as a "MOVIE OF THE WEEK" on December 30, 1969. By that time, Karen was already being established on "ROOM 222".

@tomservo56954 4 жыл бұрын
Do you know what she was doing before ROOM 222? The only thing I've ever seen her in that predates that is some kind of traffic safety film where she played the girlfriend of a young man trying to hide a hit and run he committed (his mother was played by the voice of Wilma Flintstone, Jean VanderPyle)

4:23- From the producer of "INTERNATIONAL SHOWTIME" (1961-'65), with Hal Linden filling Don Ameche's role as emcee [May 19, 1978]. Joseph Cates also produced "CONTINENTAL SHOWCASE", a similar series featuring Jim Backus, as Jackie Gleason's 1966 summer replacement for CBS, and the syndicated "CIRCUS", with Bert Parks as emcee, in the early 1970's. Cates also produced "GREAT CIRCUSES OF THE WORLD", featuring Mary Hart, for ABC as a brief series in 1989 {in the same time period}.

THE BRADY BUNCH promos were from the Grand Canyon trip episodes & the episode where Greg bought a junker of a car. Those were the first 4 of the 1971-72 season. The Monday Night Football promo was for West Coast stations, with the game starting at 6 PM and followed by 240-ROBERT, which ABC aired before MNF in the East. I liked the Lawrence Welk promo. I didn't appreciate his show when it was on (and my grandmothers liked it), but I can appreciate it now.

According to Jane & Michael Stern's "The Encyclopedia Of Bad Taste",sometime in the late 60's,Lawrence Welk once appeared at a live show in the hippie costume seen at 12:07 ;the audience became dead quiet. Welk quickly removed the costume and switched back to his traditional suit,but that particular show,the damage had been done.

A few months ago, I rented The Pat Paulsen Half a Comedy Hour from Netflix and it was not as good as I thought but it was nostalgically funny. His show was kind of modeled after the zany, off-beat comedy of Rowan and Martin's Laugh In. What a great reminder of all the great...and not so great television we had in the 70s. Thanks, Fred.

I think it was The Smothers Brothers show he did a series of skits that were so funny, including him running for President. His dead pan delivery had me and especially my older brothers cracking up every time. I don't recall seeing that Pat Paulsen show though.

My favorite show in this grouping was/is "White Shadow". My ex and I regularly watched it. It was well written; the characters were interesting; the plots were believable and compelling. I haven't watched The Grammy Awards for 20 years mainly because the music of the past 20+ years is just not listenable. The melodies are repetitive and often devoid of any soul or lyricism but they do have plenty of auto tuning. In general the songs sound as if they used only 4 notes on the piano. And, the lyrics are often just too dang naughty and offensive. And, the result of hearing these songs on dancing/movement can be very suggestive, even nasty.
