I saw him at Lake Garda/Italy together with my parents in 1986!He gave three last concertos together with his wife Monica Curth in Riva del Garda !!He gave me a wonderful signature and spoke a little bit about his life!!!His voice was still very good!!He was healthy and in a good condition!!I was deeply impressed!!!❤❤❤❤❤Di Stefano forever and Callas forever,too!!!❤❤❤❤❤❤A perfect couple in heaven!❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊

Ne prima ne durante ne in futuro la stupenda voce del grande Pippo può essere superata. Urlare come fanno certi tenori non vuol dire avere una buona voce.

DI Stefano perché le tue interpretazioni della canzone napoletana hanno un grande potere nel mio Cuore lo stai facendo sciogliere ammorbidirlo come quando da bambina, che amavo cantare me ne andavo dentro il bosco e li cantavo mentre l'eco mi rimandava, il mio canto che si diffondeva x la, grande valle. Dio ti Benedica, ovunque Te ora sia. For me Pippo Di Stefano's voice came from God, and despite the critics was still wonderful in later life, he performed with emotion always and from the heart, a true legend.

En fra1nçais et en langage populaire on dit "c'est le taulier" ce qui veut le maître absolu" bien avant Pavarotti qu'on adulait quand il était vivant ce qui était vivant mais maintenant qu"il est mort il faut le comparer avec les autres morts. Emilia Kaplan - He and Placido Domingo are my favorite tenors. Others are maybe better tecnnically but these two sing with their hearts as well. And thanks so much for the gorgeous photos of Italy. I must go back.

March 2016. Am listening to Stefano because Pavarotti spoke of him on occasion in his interviews. He sang with emotion as did Pavarotti! There is only one Maistro!

You need to also listen to both Franco Corelli and Beniamino Gigli both Grand Masters Pavarotti said Corelli had the greatest voice Ever...have a listen.....

One of my favourite songs is "Torna à Surriente" and - in my opinion - of all the many tenors who sang this masterpiece Giuseppe Di Stefano's interpretation is the best by far. His voice is incredible. And I agree with +Lawrence Sosna. Of course we can't know what Caruso's voice really sounded like. The recording technique back in his days was primitive but after comparing "Core 'ngrato" many times I still think that Di Stefano's voice is better than Caruso's.

A voz do Pippo era a autentica voz de tenor italiano de uma época romantica dos napolitanos, sicilianos, enfim de um conteudo aveludado tipico dessas regiões da Italia. Pontificaram, tambem, Gigli, Tagliavini, Schipa.....

He's always been my favorite. In the late 50th he reworked his technique somewhat damaged for singing very much open throated and with passion to spare. He owned Tosca's Caravadossi role and Lucia di Lammermoor's Edgardo for many years. He even sang - like nobody else before or after him - La Forza del Destino's Don Alvaro (whose tessitura requires a heavier tenor voice). Just listen to a live performance with young Tebaldi and Bastianini. Magda Olivero said he had a technique of his own, a technique that allowed him to sing piano with exquisite diminuendos and portamentos. He belonged to a extinct breed along with many other opera stars during the second half on the 20th century.

Whatever contributes to fame, or going viral, or whatever one might call wide recognition is not always talent driven. I have heard singers that were widely known who I found scratching my head wondering how they got so widely known. I never hear this powerful tenor before. I regard him as good as any famous tenor that I have heard. I am glad I stumbled upon him on KZfaq. It shows how limited my scope of great music has been.

@@valasina2015 So true, Pavarotti is humble, not as crafted and no shaving... world loves that way, closer to earth. But GDS is also down to earth, no mean bones. Wouldn't you wish him to marry Callas instead of only singing...how sad they did not... There is Carerras that was widely rumored to be admirer and try to sing the same way, dangerous open style.
