I was Catholic and I mean devout for 32 years. I read the Gospels for the first time when I was 27, when I was on a military mission and could not go to church. I went to parochial school for 12 years, and we never opened a Bible. But after reading the Gospels, I knew something was wrong and opposed to Christ's teachings. Then in 1992, I read Revelation. When I read Revelation 17, I could clearly see it was describing the Roman Catholic Church. I made the decision to flee the Harlot church. Edward, I think I understand what you are saying. From the top down, most Catholic churches don't teach what the word is saying. I have several friends that I've known very well for over 4.5 decades that are Catholic. Some don't read the Bible on their own and follow only what they church wants them to believe. Some I can see are filled with the Holy Spirit which is leading their lives, which the Pope has come out to speak against as he says you can't be led by a personal relationship with Jesus. The practice of the Eucharist is older than the Bible itself, being practiced by the Christian churches age before the Bible was even put together. The Catholic belief is that the Eucharist is the real presence of Christ, so I would think again about calling it an abomination.
