In England the Train companies also do this, when you book your tickets tell them about the wheelchair and they will meet you at your departure and arrival station to assist you.

I was going to say this. I was on a train the other day, and not only did this happen, but every other passenger waited for the person to be helped by the staff before disembarking themselves. It was a beautiful show of respect, empathy and understanding all round.

This exists in basically all Western countries. You book a ticket and tick the wheelchair box. The train driver knows which seat you're in and deploys the bridge accordingly.

I’m currently in Taiwan and I can’t even tell you guys how sweet people are here. This woman helped me scan the supermarket and even explained to me why I should buy this over this. She handed me one packet and then she was like “no this is too expensive, mix these too instead” 😭😭😭 I love her to death. May she have the best life ahead and May she shine the days of people around her just like she did for me. An absolute sweetheart 😭😭

I sat next to a Japanese woman on a flight to Korea. Being blind, she exactly knew how to help me. I asked her, how is this possible, and she said that they were taught in school to help people that are disabled, especially those who are blind! Japan is amazing!!!

In Germany all trams and buses have a built in ramp on every exit and the driver is the one to open them up for wheelchair users. We also have mobile lifts for high train exits at the most train stations, you just have to call in advance for special 'mobility helpers' to come to your platform and help you out with those lifts. It's pretty nice ❤️

I witnessed a train staff waiting for the train with a wheelchair and upon the train's arrival, an elderly lady aligted and hobbled onto it. The precision of their meeting, the ability to plan ahead, the availability of such a service, all impressed me 👏👏👏

In Turkey, if the station employees are notified of any disabled person on the train in advance, that person is met at the station by that specific employee and certainly gets support.

This happens in Spain too, you just need to inform any worker when purchasing your ticket and they will arrange any assistance if needed. Most trains however are perfectly level with the station's ground and need no assistance. Some old stations need big ramps though.

ヨーロッパの国でも同じってコメントあるけど、ヨーロッパってプラットホームがかなり下にある駅もあるよね。そういう駅ではどう対処してるのかな。ちなみに日本ではほぼ全ての駅が電車の床とプラットホームの床はほぼ同じ高さになっています。

In Finland, our tramps/metro have buttons where you press and a ramp slide out, making it easy for anyone in a wheelcair or a parent with a child in the pram. Also, there's a special coach to accommodate those on wheelchairs or with baby prams/ walkers and bicycles.

I live in England and know the disabled have access and a really helped if they can not get on and of thre train. Also, our bus stops have raised sidewalks for the busses that kneel to allow access. I know NY they have kneeling busses. The reason I replied originally we don't use handicapped anymore. We used to, but the powers that be says it is demeaning to the disabled person.

Not so. I saw a bus driver bend over backward to assist a woman with a wheelchair on a Seattle bus recently. He was so compassionate and willing to serve it brought me to tears.

And many other countries are compliant in that their infrastructure caters to people with disabilities. This is like seeing a video of an airbag deploying in France and saying we'd never see that in Thailand... it's about as wrong as you can be.

In the netherlands there is a button on the trains, bus en metro. Once you push it a ramp come's out automaticly

If needed you can even request help and an attendant like in the video will come and meet you at the station and get out a special larger ramp. If for some reason the special car with the special disability ramp doesnt work for you.

In the UK you can request help with getting on and then they ask where you are getting off and someone waits with the ramp when you arrive at your destination.

My daughter has hust returned from a months long visit to Japan, and cannot praise the people and country enough. She found the Japanese people to be kind, helpful, respectful. She said its the lovliest country shes ever visited and cannot wait to return. I hope to be with her on that visit 😊😊

I worked in Tokyo for three years back in the 90s I was never treated with more sincere courtesy, respect and kindness- our team worked and hard played hard. They educated me about their culture and were delighted to learn about my American western culture.

It happens here in the UK one books in advance but an employee gets onto the train and escorts you to your loved ones waiting. They don’t leave you side.

They are so organized. They have a strong work ethic. A phone call is already made re: a wheelchair person getting off in a certain station and the woman worker is ready waiting to assist her

I love this. My son is 10 and he said “mama can we please go to Japan” he’s a huge anime fan, and he just loves how advance the country is. I would love to take him one day and show him how beautiful the world is outside of America.❤

Same in canada but the ramps are automated and slow as hell, 20 sec to extend so it adds a good min of time total. This folding ramp takes 3 seconds.. and no machinery so its one extra job

Polite but not friendly. Japanese are one of the least friendly, even more than European and developed Asian countries. Americans are like the only friendly first worlders actually. Maybe some are friendly to outsiders to either give you a better image, or they are just tired of other Japanese people. I’m the latter

Our bases in Canada have them installed and the driver pushes a button for seniors with walkers, mothers with strollers and wheelchairs. The trains around here also have a wheelchair car.

I live in germany and every train has a speaker where you can speak with train personal to get you a ramp, every bus has also such a ramp built in

We have had this in the UK For the past 20 years. Also our buses lower their suspension to all easy access for older people. Plus the buses are all fitted with a fold up ramp for wheelchair access 😉

We have busses that lowers people in wheel chair down to street level. It's the same thing. This woman isn't some random person helping people all day. It is her job 😂

Well whether it is Kindness, volunteering or doing it as a job we need more Assistance for our Disabled. And Im also talking about GOVERNMENT HELP! This matter needs more work & planning especially in some States in USA that are so far behind. And more Compassion for those who are disabled because they wish they could walk & have no choice but to be confined to a wheelchair they don’t want! Many abusive young adults use their grandparents or parents Disability card (placed on the rearview mirrors) in order to avoid walking a far distance from the the stores. TOO LAZY @$$ TO WALK when a Disabled person would give Anything to walk. Come on folks!!

In Russia we have the same person, who helps disabled people and pregnant women, and he even cares them from the car to the exit.

We have this in Singapore too. But it’s for buses, coz our train platforms are wheelchair friendly. For the buses, there are hydraulic ramps attached and the bus driver comes out to help with this 😊

Exactly, I was thinking like this as I live in SG. wtf is so different? The stations are wheelchair accessible without a ramp. Also someone could fall onto the tracks there, you can't in SG. tbh 2023Japan is basically Singapore in 2012.

In NY, the subway stations have elevators and the busses kneel and have a hydraulic ramp that lets wheelchair passengers onto the bus. So yeah, in major cities at least, there is wheelchair accessibility.

All that accessibility and the public doesn't want or understand why wheelchairs are being given the "royal" treatment. Members of the public will run a wheelchair down in a minute.

We have these in Australia too. I personally use them, all I have to do is tell the station person & they inform the station that I will be getting off. When I arrive, a staff member is there waiting for me to roll out! Wonderful!
