Props for speaking your truth on the ADT system at high speeds. Let's be real that marketing was a huge reason a lot of ppl were interested. Another great review, keep doing your thing, love your content!

Mike from Propel here. Everyone is different and has different ride styles and foot placements. Kami Juins showed a detailed breakdown recently that worked amazingly for him with him pushing high speeds with no wobbles so while Ruckus may not be the end of speed wobbles for all. It could be the end of speed wobbles for some. Regardless, we have adjusted our focus more on the customization of Ruckus. Fred showed the beauty of Ruckus at 25mph and less. Which is still a speed many people love to cruise and carve at.

One of the reasons we wanted Fred to review was his unique insights. We also knew he hadn’t liked channel trucks from others before so we were really curious to hear his thoughts! Happy that he found bliss carving and off road and enjoyed a lot of the key features we spent a long time working on. Did everything we did connect with him personally? No. But I like and respect how he acknowledged that just because some aspects didnt connect personally with him and his ride style that it doesn’t mean it won’t other people. Feedback is how we have always grown at Propel.

It would make sense that the next improvement to this design would be electronically controlled damping from a speedometer, increasing relative to speed. As far as speed wobbles goes, it truly is easy to set up your board to get BOTH high maneuverability and high speed stability through a combination of adding Waterborne surf adapters and flipping the rear trucks to turn with the fronts rather than mirrored. What you lose in rear wheel turning you more than make up for with the front end’s improved agility, while the rear can now make the board self correcting and stabilizing. Traditional mirrored truck set-up is great for slow speeds, a simple mechanism, and for riding switch. It’s great for a park board, however if you only ride your board in one direction, at higher speeds, and don’t want it to turn like a cruise ship, it makes sense to treat the geometry more like a AWS sports car, that surprise turn opposite at low speeds but then switch to the same direction at high speeds to create stability while cornering. I’ve been riding this way for nearly a decade and it’s a complete game changer.

The flex also helps deflect the truck FARTHER in either direction which is exactly how wobbles start..
@sageoz9886
@sageoz9886 Ай бұрын
Increasing the wheelbase shouldn’t start wobbles. There’s both a cause to why skateboards develop wobbles, and a trigger. The trigger is often rough patches of road that force speed-bump steering, and more commonly an incorrect weight distribution, or shifting to the back truck with too much weight. The cause is just how rear trucks are designed to mirror the front trucks, being asked to help with steering duties. AWS vehicles turn the rears WITH the fronts at high speed, opposite at slow.

Seems a bit like a board trying to solve a problem that doesn’t exist. Once you have your preferred bushings dialed in, no need for constant adjustment. I wish they had released a premium ultra light board instead, that’s a real gap in the market.

Interesting description of angled channel truck feel. I noticed a similar effect when I was thinking through how to tame a surfskate on an electric board; ultimately, I extended the wheelbase out in the front so as to give up some of the control that was being felt directly under the foot. Given the boards overall vibe of control, the intended effect of angled vs flat seems to have been giving up what an experienced rider might see as stability, and instead opting for maneuverability and control in lean, with the dampeners then making up the rest. Do you see the high speed feel as something that would grow on you given more time with / trust in the board? Great info on grey bushings and wheels size limits.

I 110% agree with no need for assistance and need full ocntrol not the board controlling you. Now as for Traditional Channel Trucks I have no issues with them. I do have issues with the extras being added to the truck when its not needed or not helping more than a single rider. If it works it should work for most people not just some. With that said a Traditional skateboard truck has gone far beyond what was considered when it was created and does not seem to hold a rider back. Example: 900, 1080, triple flips, grinds to flips and slides etc. I think channels make sense for the off road, as there are angles like you say that are not flat like roads. These angles allow turns, carves and more depending on the environment. Example: Channle Truck hits the angle of a halfpipe and becomes more parallel with that angle before you get to the top. Traditional truck has to meet up with the angle. Does this matter yes and no, does it create a different feel yes. Things a channel truck helps with imo. Preloading Heel side or Toside. Hard to do that with Normal Trucks. Nose and Tail angles with or without bindings help lock in better for launch and stopping. No need for toe stops as accessories as they are built in a deck that utilizes channel trucks. Your feet are in a perfect landing zone for the most part due to deck angles or bindings. Seeing as most Eskates dont leave the ground, but most all skateboards do. This is a common issue that could be resolved. When Eskates take flight then we will have gotten that much closer to a official esk8 imo.

A couple of thoughts on your engineering opinions... 1. Channel trucks and Fred: You have always felt like channel trucks are unstable just like the Lorentz Major... I feel like using a medium bushing for your 155 lb with low preload causes the very initial travel when the trucks are centered at rest to be wobbly. If you have a channel truck with adjustable preload, use a slightly lighter bushing and crank up the preload to where there is no dead space at top dead center. (Like on your Z1... use a slightly lighter bushing and then tighten the truck a little bit more) On the ADT trucks it looks like there's no adjustable preload at top dead center on the main bushing so you're hosed. Tinkering more with the rebound bushings may not help but I think they would work better for heavier riders. 2. ADT preventing high speed wobbles: I think if you're planning on riding 30 to 35 mph, turning the damper up to eight or nine in the rear and five in the front likely would help alleviate that. But would not help your predictability issues because the design looks like it's there to make it somewhat numb at high speed. 3. High ADT and carve ability: I think if you're going to use a board like this, you would actually want to use lighter than normal bushings with a high ADT setting because you don't twitch carve. You smoothly lean into your carve and ADT should not restrict the end of travel, just the time it takes to get there. So if you use light bushings and light rebound with heavy ADT, you should be able to carve as deep as the board would mechanically limit you which would be right before wheel bite. ADT would keep it stable and you should be able to lean fast enough that the hydraulic dampers allow you to get all the way to the end of your carve. I think this is an interesting concept and will eventually become standard on some boards. Hydraulic dampers on the rear trucks on speed oriented boards has been around longer than Propel Ruckus. He can't say that it's a bad thing given Heath Lewis. His name will always be synonymous with 63 mph on channel trucks and carving at 45 mph. But there's also a very low ° split angle on his design. I think the beauty of aftermarket hydraulic dampers is that it actually bridges between the truck and the deck making it more stable and more robust versus the Propel ruckus integrating the system within the confines of the enormous hanger. Your issue with channel truck style decks which are double kick at the truck mount versus flat decks: It actually gives you a lower center of gravity beneath the pivot and should in theory make it more stable. But it sounds like that's only in theory and in practice it makes it less comfortable, and anything less comfortable is going to be less stable.

One of the main reasons we were curious to get Fred’s thoughts was because we knew he didn’t love channel trucks. Whereas some companies would be worried about sending someone who didn’t like their truck type a board with that truck type we know Fred’s feedback makes the product better for more people. He’s partially why we decided to move to black and black bushings stock. Plus, look at him sling this thing around! For some people 25mph is plenty anyway. What some cruisers are looking for is how to enjoy carving even more and in that regard we are glad he found bliss with maneuverability and off road riding.

@@mikemenard4543 yeah Mike, I think it's wise of you guys to throw this board at every type of rider. Like I can identify a little bit more with Drew because I'm 190 lb but he's more of a carver and I'm kind of a rally racer. You know what I'd really like to see is if you would send this board to James at MBoards. He's got more of a full throttle riding style kind of like myself but he rails turns really hard. I think that would be the missing component to your reviewers. JUINs is and all around rider but he's very lightweight, Fred is a carvey dancer and he's pretty lightweight, Drew is a carver Clydesdale, and Scott is a meandering all around Clydesdale... But you're missing that rocket boy reviewer. James review style is a little more unorthodox but he speaks truth and he's a performance rider.

How do you have all those electric boards in your garage bro??????? I bought the ruckus and it was very costly! I’m also married with a daughter and all my money goes towards the security and well being of them. I also just found out that I need a new furnace and AC installed and I need to have some ductwork changed as well. To replace what I currently have I’m going to be looking at about 15k😢😢😢😢 I guess that’s the new Road Runner RX7, the propel suspension board I want with a new set of golf clubs and a Trijicon rifle optic with a suppressor…………
