The extremist groups have many different motivations, though they try to cover it with the veil of religion and matrydom, most fight because of greed, because of being opressed for too long and being pushed to the extreme, or to oppress others due to their ignorance and superiority complex. They take portions and verses of the Quran and Islam to motivate their troops and members. Whilst leaving out the context and the meaning of them. Islam is a religion of pragmatism and is rational. Hence, there being verses of "violence" in the first place because sometimes violence is necessary. To answer this question, No, they are not true to the text. Because the text tells us to choose the path of non volience when possible as it is for the best. To not harm the non combats in a war, to spare the weman, childern, and the elderly. To not harm the environment, the trees. There is much more to Islam and the Quran than war, there are verses and the way we should live, the way we should act, to be good to our fellow human beings, no matter their race or gender. To be kind and nobal, help the poor and the needy. So for them to be true to the text, they must adhere to these aswell. 3. The reason why people claim the Prophets SAW to be a pedophile is because one of his wifes was around 9 years old when they consummated their marriage. ( This fact is still in debate, even in the muslim community.) and this is a complicated matter which you can find many experts discussing the situation. I would recommend you also after the Quran, read books on the life of the prophet and, or even watch, the hundreds of videos about Islam. Some well knowledable youtubers I'd recommend are Mohammad Hijab, One Path Network, Yaqeen Institute, and Sapience Institue. They go through the most advanced parts of Islam as well as the basics. I have started reading the clear Quran and half way through the Surah Al-Baqarah, and already feel like I’ve learned a lot, but also brings a lot of questions! I will look more into the prophet and definitely will look at more content on Islam as well. Would you say understanding of the other Abrahamic religions would be useful in this Journey - as the Quran has mentioned Jewish/ Christianity a few times so far?

The only one thing i will say that is consistant is translating any book from one language to another may alter the meaning in some cases. The reason we have so many religions including the divided Muslim religion is religious scholars arent in direct communication with God and therefore make their own interpretations to suit their own needs. I think you misunderstand the scriptures on this one. WE are adopted into the house of Israel through covenant when we are baptised. But there is no limit on how many people will be able to return unto the father. Only through the atonement of Jesus Christ and through keeping the commandments will we be able to be found worth to live in our Heavenly Fathers presence.
