The UK needs legal immigrants more than they like to accept and for good reasons. Ageing population, more number of deaths in addition to Brits leaving the UK for other countries far outweighs the number of births recorded yearly and the gap continues to widen. The Gen Zs are not as disciplined as their older generations as that has now been totally construed as abuse, this indirectly affects their drive for hardwork compared to generations before them. There is more enthusiasm to proceed to the university within the immigrant's families than in indigenous ones, leaving opportunities for foreigners than the owners of the land. Studying Nursing, for instance, is virtually free for the citizens but way expensive for immigrants, yet they have shortages. The Brits don't want to do the dirty jobs and some would rather just sit at home and take benefits even when they are agile enough to work... blaming it on low wage. Most legal immigrants work and pay taxes, students bring a lot of money to study whilst their spouses work and pay rax. Most of them pay IHS fee for NHS even before they are granted Visas which many never utilise anyways. Housing market became more lucrative especially for landlords. What happens to the govt building more houses and even spending more on NHS and Policing? What happened to manufacturing that drove the economy and made UK a tech superpower a time ago? Immigrants surely didn't take that away, their own government outsourced it for sure. They will blame immigration and that helps elections as politicians ride on people's sentiments. While I believe the government needs to control the immigration, UK's problem is not immigration as much as it is their successive Government's failures. However, compared to many other governments, I believe they still rank fairly. I believe the UK will continue to NEED immigrants to be honest if the government does kot change course and sooner or later, the gates would be flung open again.

My advice for anyone coming here to study is to come over to study Nursing. To the best of my knowledge, you have a 99% chance of getting an NHS job that can bring your family. If you also have a Master in Nigeria with 2.1 apply for an MPhil research course with school like Swasea University and you can bring ur dependants. OR APPLY TO SIMILAR SCHOOLS THAT OFFER MPHIL. Or you just apply for PHD. With PhD you can bring ur family and you have a high chance to also get a job after study to stay behind. Note: Science related courses have highest chances of getting a quick job rather than Social sciences.

It is expensive and IHS fee right now is no joke. 1165 for a year which means they have to pay for 2 years.

@Wishywell2700 but if you work in care during your study, IHS will be refunded. I'm a nurse but will prefer people come to study social works here. Money dey there pass nursing and flex dey there better too.

My advice is, if you can, after your post today, let your wife or husband switch to Nursing by applying for a nursing course. That's one of the most secure jobs now in the UK. Use your post-study period to save money like crazy for your dependant to switch to Nursing.

Uk is a sweet country to be in, great place to raise your kids, yes they have their ups and down, like every other country, all I can say is plan you trip, have sufficient funds that will keep you for at least 6months in rent and personal care, everyone case is different. You might get a job early which frees you if not you are prepared

If both parents are here in the UK and they both get sponsorship, then the children have no issue, they will apply with their parents. But if both parents are in Nigeria, they can't bring in dependants unless NHS jobs.

Yes the NHS jobs can sponsor families but it all depends on the band, NHS jobs can only have sponsorship for a particular band upwards, some from band 3 why some 4,

Uk is one the country that offers a flexible migration route to remain in the country. This law will definitely change, but before then, we must think of ways to beat it. My opinion, if you are on a post study visa, and sponsorship is not forthcoming, please apply for a PhD that will give you and your family another 4year to remain in the country, …. Back in my BSc days, I was clueless, just aiming to be something: a doctor, lawyer, scientist, you name it. Masters helped me advance in my field, but the PhD journey is about becoming an authority in your chosen domain. It's all about picking a topic, diving into research, and presenting your findings and recommendations. No lectures, just data-driven exploration. Plus, it offers a four-year immigration window for you and your family, giving ample time to chart your course. And hey, who knows, maybe the winds of change will blow in our favor before those four years are up
