Living In Panama City Beach

Living In Panama City Beach

Жыл бұрын

In this video, we will be discussing the pros and cons of living in Panama City Beach, Florida.
Pros:
The Beach: Panama City Beach has the world's most beautiful beaches. The sand is white and fine, and the water is crystal clear.
Water Sports: In Panama City Beach, there are so many activities you can do in and around the water. From boating in the Gulf of Mexico, to fishing on coastal dune lakes like Lake Powell, you will never run out of things to do.
Weather: The weather in Panama City Beach is unbelievable! The highs in the summertime average 90 degrees in July and August. In the wintertime, you can expect average highs in the 60s and average lows in the 40s.
Restaurants: There are so many amazing places to eat in and around Panama City Beach. You'll be able to find everything from beach front restaurants, to dive bars and everything in between.
It's Growing: Panama City Beach has seen tons of growth over the past decade. At the moment, St. Joe Corporation is the largest developer in the area, owning over 150,000 acres of acres of land in North West Florida. They are partnering to build subdivisions, hotels, hospitals, and much more.
Cons:
Traffic: Panama City Beach traffic can be bad in the summertime. This is mostly due to the high number of tourists visiting the emerald coast. In the wintertime, traffic isn't a problem at all.
Humidity: The humidity in northwest Florida, especially in the summertime can be brutal. But as the summer goes on, your body gets acclimated to it.
Hurricanes: Living along the coast, you are more susceptible to the impacts of hurricanes. In 2018, Hurricane Michael made landfall in Bay County, and the result was wide spread destruction.
Not a big city: Panama City Beach is a smaller town. While this may be attractive for some like me, for others this could be a drawback. For those coming from a big city, you may find there isn't much to do on the weekends if you don't like the beach and the water.
Community: It can be hard to find community here in Panama City Beach. There's a constant influx and outflow of people throughout the year due to tourism, and a lot of people come for a few years and leave.
Reach out Day/Nights/Weekends whenever you want. We are here to help!!

I have previously lived in Panama City for about a decade and this is quite accurate. I grew up in NW Florida and came from a small town of less than 6k people. The "locals" in PCB are few and far between as most of the people working on the beach don't actually live there. They often live in town or even on the outskirts, and many of them don't even have a car and rely on public transit. And speaking of public transit, or lack there of, it's no question you definitely need a car to live in NW Florida, which can be a big con for some. When there are no safe and efficient alternatives to driving (walking, cycling and public transit), traffic is bound to be inevitable. Cities can add more lanes all they want, but that won't fix traffic overtime, especially as cities continue to grow. That's a textbook example of induced demand. Don't get me wrong. NW Florida is a beautiful area. But I prefer to live in dense walkable cities with strong public transit, that way I can easily live car-free. I like cars, but they're expensive to maintain nowadays.

I'm thinking about moving my family to Panama City. Would you recommend living in Panama City or Panama City Beach? What are the pros and cons of each? And how would you compare the Panama City/Panama City Beach area vs the Pensacola/Navarre area? I may be able to get a job in either area.

Hey! I prefer Panama City Beach, but that’s because I love going to the beach. If you aren’t as big on beach days, then you will definitely find better priced housing in Panama City. One area I really like is Lynn Haven. Pros of Panama City Beach -close to the beach, growing, and close to the airport. Pros of Panama City-cheaper housing and not as much tourist traffic. Pensacola feels like a much bigger city than Panama City/Panama City Beach. Navarre is much smaller. There’s a section of beach between Navarre and Pensacola Beach where there isn’t any buildings at all. It’s very cool to drive through. Text me with any other questions-850-660-7975.

@marcmillerpcb
@marcmillerpcb 11 ай бұрын
Hey! Comparing it to where I’m from, schools in Panama City Beach are great. Kids in high school have a wide selection of AP classes to take. While I was working on the navy base as an engineer, I volunteered to be a mentor for a high school engineering class. I was really impressed at what the kids were learning. The kids were using and proficient in computer aided design software, which I didn’t know existed until my first year of college. Outside of PCB, I think Lynn Haven and South Walton have the best schools. I would recommend doing some research on websites like great schools and niche. Minimum wage is set to increase to $12 at the end of September 2023. Rent and home prices in Panama City beach are very high. It seems the most affordable houses are over in Panama City. Let me know if there’s anything I can do to be of help!

I like living here. Pros-beautiful beach-Locals-night life. Cons-traffic-constant tourists-constant road work-infrastructure can't handle the amount of traffic/people. Cost of living. Homeowners insurance is extremely expensive-property tax not bad. That being said nowhere is perfect and I don't know where I would rather be.
@marcmillerpcb

I completely agree with you. To me the pros definitely outweigh the cons. Homeowners insurance is getting out of hand on older properties, but like you said taxes are relatively low. If you ever need anything, shoot me a text! -Marc, 850-660-7975 | PCBproperty.com

How is a housing explosion a good thing, when their is already gridlock.
@marcmillerpcb
@marcmillerpcb Жыл бұрын
Hey Harry! To me, as more people move to the area, the door opens for improved community infrastructure. Panama City Beach is constantly improving roadways to keep up with the increased traffic with examples like Philip Griffitts Sr Parkway, the HWY 79 roundabout, and the planned expansion of 98. Another result of the housing explosion is a much needed hospital and medical campus being put in on 79.

Hey Muriel! Personally, I think Panama City Beach and the surrounding around is welcoming to everyone. I wouldn’t necessarily say that we are culturally diverse like a bigger city would be. how’s crime ??
@marcmillerpcb
@marcmillerpcb Жыл бұрын
I have never felt unsafe here. I feel like the majority of the crimes committed in Panama City Beach revolve around drunk tourists (PCB attracting approximately 4.5 million visitors each year). I think, like most cities, there may be pockets that can feel sketchy or a little less safe than others. Looking at websites like niche.com might be helpful to look at.

Most of the crime came from tourists during Spring Break and summer. There's recently been some shootings over there. The suspects came from out of town.

Thanks so much! Gas is about $3.50 right now. For jobs we have a huge tourism industry and a large military presence, between the Naval Surface Warfare Center and Tyndall Air Force Base.
