Thank you so much, this helped a lot. I live in Germany, where the winter isn't as cold as in Canada. We own a huge house with a big garden - all neighbours (far away...) own dogs, so barking won't be a problem either. We both are self employed, can plan our day - and work from home. Our son is 9 years old, and very caring... It really seems that I found the perfect dog. ❤

I have a 17 year old Italian Greyhound, great dogs! Never had any anxiety issues or the barking issue. Loves kids and never has growled at any child. They are sturdier than they look as well. She is CGC certified and a therapy dog. Bambi doesn’t look as though she has missed too many meals! She’s a cutie!

Thank you 🙏🏽. Very informative, especially the cons. I’m thinking of an Italian Greyhound in the future. The teeth was not something I knew about thank you.

The only way my Iggy would go out in the Canadian winter was in his $300 thermally lined, triple layered and custom-tailored snowsuit.....with booties and a work-sock neck warmer. Even then it was up the street and back and no farther. He had nicer clothes than I did. lol

😆 that sounds about right! We also spent hundreds of dollars on specializes iggy winter gear and our Bambi barely makes it down the block! They really are better suited to warm climates. ♥️

I thought your video was very informative and I loved how you highlighted your own experiences. I’ve had my iggy for 3 years. I think the one thing that you forgot to mention is how stubborn they are about training.

My late Italian greyhound, Rocko, did just fine in the snow. He had lots of sweaters and coats and had no problem going outside to do his business. If the snow was deep, I'd dig a patch down to the grass for him.

Thank you for making this video. Bambi is beautiful and very sweet. Its clear you have given her an amazing life. We lost our little sweetheart 2weeks ago today and its broken our hearts😢💔. She was our life and soul. She was a Jack Russell cross, possible iggy mix in her as she had many of the characteristics of an Iggy. An absolute gem. She was 15 (we think) we rescued her and she could have been anywhere from 15-19. We gave her the best of everything we could after her rough start in life. We wish your Bambi all the best and I hope that the mass is nothing of major concern and that she has many more happy years with you. Cherish every moment, she is a beautiful girl, and clearly a little sweetie ❤

Thank you so much for this kind comment. So sorry for your loss. 💔 it is so difficult losing a pet. They really are a member of the family. So far she has not gotten worse amd its been a couple months since the x-ray.🤞We hope we are able to enjoy a few more happy years with her. Wishing you all the best in this difficult time grieving your sweetheart. 💓

I am afraid 12 years is not old for an Italian Greyhound. Several of ours lasted into their twenties. We had quite a few in the 1950s, 60s, 70s, 80s, I forget how many but we had 5 together at one time. They grew up with kids and are fine as long as the kids treat them with respect and are not mean to them. I remember taking them for walks in the hills here in Southern England and watching them chase hares across a field. They never caught up because if they did the hare turned round and chased them back.

Thanks so much! 🥹 hope you enjoy our homesteading content too! Bambi pops up in many of our videos. We would be very interested in that. Do IGs suffer from littermate syndrome the way other dogs do when raised from puppies? They're such a unique breed, we wouldn't be surprised if there are differences to consider in this regard.

Nice old girl you have there. She is lovely! I have a IGGY and just want to say that fearful IGGY is not a fatality. It can be avoided. My Twich does not fear much. He is very confident (for a iggy) and plays with Am staff and Labs in the park (i let him when they are gentle; many are!). Confidence in dogs can be trained with proper sociability and methods (very critical between 2 and 4 months). He barks only when he hears other dogs barking. He has no separation anxiety and can be left alone for 6 to 8 hours when necessary. He is fully potty trained but this was a challenge (Paris winter helping). No broken bones so far (keep my finger crossed).

That's great! Indeed you are so right. We got Bambi at 4 months old, right after the critical socialization period and because she was born just at the start of winter the breeder revealed to us that she never took the puppies out of the house. She effectively as a result had NO socialization. This made her especially anxious and fearful, even moreso than necessary for an iggy. When we meet other iggy groups she is on the shy side compared to others but also she improved immensely after I did agility with her for 3 years. It really built her confidence. Glad you experience was so great! They are a very special breed. ❤️

So accurate! We have 2 IGGYs and this sums them up perfectly. Broken bones is more common than not - been there. $ and recovery time is astronomical. We have potty trained 2 IGs in Ontario Canada.

So sorry to hear you had to deal with broken bones! A nightmare for sure! Would love to know how you potty trained your IGs! We tried and tried and eventually settled on pee pads forever lol

@@stephandjuliaseden Even after I purchased a $300 bespoke thermal winter snowsuit, $75 winter booties , shoveled a path in the snow throughout my entire backyard (he needed options), and went outside with him every time...my Canadian Iggy still used pee pads about half the time in the winter. If it was even slightly windy...forget about it, LOL. I rescued him well after the puppy/adolescent years, so I opted not to push the potty training.

@BartWilson yes I think your experience is typical of iggy owners! They are SO hard to housetrain completely in cold climates. I think it's sort of like asking someone to go outside naked all winter. You may be able to train them to do it, but is it even worth asking such an impossibly difficult task for the poor babies? Lol 😆
@bartwilson2513

LOL. Yeah, though next time I will try and rescue a pee-squatter and not a leg-lifter; folding and taping the pee pads so they cover the wall, too, was a bit tiring. And to be fair, while he was still about 50/50 in the dead of winter, he did like to go for short walks in his snow-suit, booties, and snood. It did take him a while to learn he could also go #2 while wearing his snowsuit.....LOL. That was both frustrating and hilarious.

So true, our girl had 10 teeth that just didn't grow in, so hopefully we can keep her teeth regular. We take her to a woman who comes in and scrapes at least once or twice a year. We also had the broken leg, thank god for insurance. Our girl is alittle different though, she maxed out at 6lbs and she actually loves kids and other dogs and wants to play she's 5. She also surprised us in not being scared of thunderstorms.
