As an American from Texas who has only seen two days of snow in the last 20 years, the weather of Calgary intrigues me. Obviously a long ways away from ever moving (I need to get a life first 😅) but Calgary does seem pretty interesting other than the high rate of car dependency, would love for Calgary to start implementing more middle housing as well.

Great content and information, Thank you for making this video. Love the view behind! I’m planning to move to Calgary from Melbourne. I am just not sure how to cope with the weather there. I have family in Calgary and missing them. Hopefully the moving process is easy.

Thank you so much for commenting, I really appreciate it! That's a big change, how long has your family been in Calgary? Even though it's much colder than where you're moving from, it's not as bad as most people expect. Even right now in December we don't have snow on the ground (which is rare for this time of year). It's going to be +10 degrees on Tuesday. Are you planning on staying with your family once you arrive?

@@ZachSchultzRealEstate Hi Zach! Thank you for your reply and information about Canada. Appreciate it. I have stepfather who is Canadian but he lives in Thailand and he has family there so they always live there. I plan to stay with them. I used to stay there to study for 3moths during winter I remember it’s such a beautiful town and people are so nice and friendly. I never forget that experience. Had a chance to celebrate Halloween, Christmas and New Year there was the most happy moment in my life. The only challenge for me now is visa to move over there. Please which me luck 😊

Thanks for commenting! Both cities can get pretty cold, a big difference is the humidity. In Alberta, we are very dry. I can't say for sure what the job market looks like for bricklayers but I currently have some clients with family in that business and they've seemed busy. If you want I can talk to them and see what they've experienced?

Calgary is a city that thinks it’s a big city because for Canada it is, but on a global scale it’s not a big city, with its smaller population.

Same could be said about many places, our population is much bigger than Vancouver for example. You are 100% correct though, we are a very small city compared to many others - thank you for sharing 😁

House and rent affordability is not affordable, really check into it, there is no where to live, the Calgary Herald did a story yesterday saying a family making 100 thousand a year won't pay the bills, we have more people, than houses so the housing crisis is really real, you need money to make money here, and I'm being honest, I moved here in 2008 from Ontario and Calgary may have lower tax, but you feel like you are getting no where quickly but just more debt in this province to be completely honest and don't even start with our horrible economy, we maybe just an hours and a half away from the mountains but we are never able to afford to pay to go to Banff, it's not free it's a provincial park, money maker for tourism and it is expensive, there's no perks to being Albertan now but, no affordable housing, we make the 3rd lowest min wage in the country, it's not nice here, the people are rude, and driving not a soul can merge onto deerfoot, nor can we escape from the city when your whole life is work, work, and work than die, I miss Ontario at least they are still not in a drought and it's November which is kinda terrifying, I feel someone needs to do a more up to date what Calgary really is like, go take the c train and tell me you feel safe, or can find anything to rent, sorry to be the downer but, I'm telling the truth here, this city will take all your money and more, leaving you with more debt than you had, make sure you have a job and place before coming here is my best advice, and save as much money as you can, because it's not affordable at all anymore, I understand Vancouver prices because it's beautiful but Calgary is not like I ever thought it would be, walk around anywhere, there are homeless everywhere, stop with the affordable housing, it's the highest its been since the recession in the 80s. So do alot of preparing, I wasn't prepared for the flat land, Dr Seuss looking trees, and no water the bow is a stream of a water source. No water around here, and we have to travel to see or do anything, back in Ontario it's just there, we have to pay to play in the forest(Banff area) or anything with trees and water, which is so strange for me. Alberta is made for working not living your best years. I want someones real perspective, not just sugar coating that all people do here is work because you need more than one job to even pay for a roof over your head.

Thank you for sharing your opinion! When I say Calgary is affordable, it's in comparison to the other large Canadian cities like Vancouver and Toronto. It has become more expensive but it's still a great alternative for many people

With a 2 percent vacancy rate, and thousands of homeless I'm not talking hundreds, I'm talking thousands of homeless families, the shelters are turning away mothers and Families because there's nowhere to put them, we have an issue more people than livable houses or even rentals, we have immigrated and migrated so many people here and so we are full literally, and abundantly and there needs to be more building there's not much here unless you have enough money to spend on something that is now overpriced and Out Of Reach for most so I'm not very hopeful considering I did come from Ontario which is a very big Province. I have never seen homelessness like I have here. I'm here to tell the truth not sugar coat it, you know the saying BC stands for bring cash, well I think Alberta stands for alright buckle up and have money, but most of us don't, the news has stated a family can't afford to pay rent even if they are making $100,000 yearly, that's alot of money to be able to just live life, no vacations here, nothing but work, work, work. Things have changed and are not looking much better. I know it's your job but, I need people to know the truth here as well, we can't compare to Vancouver or Toronto, they have different views and also rental caps, Calgary does not, our rent went up 46% this year and let's be real, my kids know Santa's sack is light this year, and so will each year on, all I see is the wealthy getting wealthier, I feel like Alberta is like screw the middle class even though they are the most hard-working people I've ever seen. We have no where to go so I'm over the move to Alberta it will change your life, yup it sure does but leaves you broken and poor in the end. Make sure anyone has accommodations and a job when you get here because good luck finding it when you get here my best piece of advice just know what you're getting into and also know where you're going, and what you want to pay for now and have no savings for later. Moving here was a shock and still is to be honest. Thank you for your time, but people do need to know the truth as well.

Those are all very important things to consider and I agree with you that Calgary is changing. I'm sorry to hear that your experience moving here hasn't been smooth and that it's been stressful. It might not be the right move for everybody - that's a fact, but it is the right move for a lot of people. A lot of the clients I've worked with have been extremely happy with it and they are saving more money by being here. You are right though, it's important that they know what to expect before they move here and that they have a job lined up @@vonkatheviking
