If you go to Balloon Fiesta, PLAN EARLY! This is the worlds premier event for the sport of hot air ballooning. Traffic is horrible, leave early; 7AM is too late. 6AM is too late; 5AM should get you in without too much trouble. It's an incredible event! Bring lots of money for the food, it's a huge part of Balloon Fiesta. Dress in layers, it can be cold first thing in the morning. It's truly special! No place I'd rather be in October than in Albuquerque for Balloon Fiesta!

Do you recommend it for kids? I have an 8 year old and a 6 year old.

It is mainly targeted at kids for 2023 balloon fiesta October 12th is kids day will focus on all special shapes so in my personal opinion yes take your kids. They will never forget it it’s a memory to be hold.😊 Hope that helps live in Albuquerque

I lived in ABQ for 17 years. Had a house on the west side of the river & could watch the mass ascension from my back yard which is a really awesome perspective. But you do have to experience the fiesta from field level at least once! As you experienced it is an amazing site being up close! Thanks for the great memories.

I’m watching this in May 2021. I loved it! I would like to attend a balloon fest, but I live on the east coast so it probably won’t be Albuquerque. It looks like the most beautiful time of day there is at dawn.

Though 4 AM isn't early for the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. I live here. If you live here and want to go, the best way is the shuttles, they could be more clear of them. I have gotten up, heck might as well NOT gone to bed. Dawn Patrol is one of my favorites, also of course "mass Assension", but yeah it can be cancelled. Yes, it's always crowded!!! It is never a mean group. Afterwards I like going to a local restaurant and having my 4th breakfast (LOL) at about 10 AM. :D Kind of my favorite personal tradition. Fun facts: One: Most photographed event in the world. Two: The city actually more than doubles in size from tourists. Three: the area is a nearly perfect balloon route which takes the balloons out and naturally turns them around, called a "box". haha, at least I thought this was fun. Great job taking us around and showing the magic.

Always wanted to go to this! We have one here in Statesville, NC every year but it's no where as big as the Albuquerque, NM Festival. :)

NoseworkPudel - The rules stated dogs weren't allowed on the field so I didn't bring her though I saw about half a dozen out there. I'm glad I didn't because it just would have been too much and stressful for her.

I didn't know you were from Plano. I do ham radio communications on the launch field for the Plano Balloon Festival. It is amazing to be up close to the balloons. We did not have a single launch this year though due to high winds all weekend, and last year was completely flooded out. The Albuquerque festival is definitely on my list. It surprises me that they let people get so close to the balloons while they are launching. With all the ropes and such, seems like a lot of things could go wrong.

I went for 2 days because I wanted to see the glodeo which is in the evening and the fireworks were incredible. Then the next day did the mass ascension and the contests. It is possible to do all in one day but that would have been exhausting.

RV parking opened for reservations on Oct 22, 2019 for the 2020 fiesta all sites were booked within 30 minutes and the wait list was closed within 45 minutes with 1100 people on it. I did get a spot for Sunday - Thursday at Box View in south parking. I am on the wait list for VIP parking both east and west. This year all balloons got up on Sunday (there are no words). I am happy I got to see it this year from the road nearby. Note they no longer let you pull over on I-25 (safety reasons) to watch it. Can't wait till 2020.

Tara Charney - I think Xscapers and Escapees groups will have a convergence again this next year there so stay tuned to their website for when tickets open up and you can get a spot with that group. I highly suggest the group of course because it's an incredible group of people and we have so much fun.

This is for anyone visiting Albuquerque. Make sure you mind your vehicle in that town, its the number one city in america for vehicle theft and break-ins.

Depend on age group I think it’s like 20 for adults but for 13 and under it’s free :D
