Retired here 4 yrs ago and love it but the home construction growth has been huge. Other than roads the local gov have done a good job in handling the growth such as schools, utilities etc. WE DO NEED RETAIL ESPECIALLY GOOD RESTURANTS :)

Be careful what you wish for! The issue with big retail and corporations is once you get the billionaires in your town ...no one can afford it anymore.

New plan for a Target anchor store and other retail on the field where the Spot Festival has normally been held. Just across from Port City Java and the LDS Church.....oh and the new apartment complex across the street that is in progress.

You didn't mention the average housing price vs Wilmington or Leland. I'm 50, retired and no kids and looking to move to the coast. Just trying to see what area close to Wilmington would be the best bang for the buck. I need a garage, but a 2 maybe three bed room is all I need. I don't want a big yard and I'm not a golfer. Been looking at Leland but curious about the other nearby towns. Also 100% disabled Veteran so having a VA hospital or clinic nearby would be a bonus although I normally only go once every six months for check ups.

I'm glad there is no influx of corporate greed around topsail....somewhere the middle class can still get to enjoy and live close to the beach....

There’s plenty of stores and restaurants up near Jacksonville also which is only maybe 30 or 45 minutes away

Depending on where you are located in Hampstead that can be an hour drive to Jacksonville. But that could be an option for the more northern parts of Hampstead.

I am concerned about the crime rate in Hampstead. Is it high?

Hampstead needs to fix their gas prices, 15 to 25 cents higher than bordering towns. Correct about the restaurant and retail situation.

This was helpful thank you! If you had to pick an area and your budget was only $425k would you do Hampstead or try to find something smaller in Wilmington? We are family of 4 with kids 6 and 10 who do play competitive travel ball sports etc. I see a few places in that price range in Wilmington but worry they aren’t in great neighborhoods at that price?

@@cori3394 we personally choose to live in Hampstead and are also a family of 4. You get a lot more for your money, school district is good and driving into anywhere in Wilmington is not much of a commute. The average price of homes in Hampstead has increased by approximately 37% in those 3 years.

Having no big box stores is a positive. I live in rural California and we are looking at moving to Hampstead. We like small communities, that don't explode with populaton and retail. Is there area like Hampstead that is close to Wilmington but not growing?

There are plenty of extremely more rural areas around Wilmington that are a long way away from growing if they ever do. Plenty further north of Hampstead such as Sneads Ferry and many to the south in Brunswick County such as Supply. Hampstead is still very small but you can see the growth coming to the area soon.

Please DONT move to Hampstead- way too many people already! Thanks for ruining a nice town, horrible traffic and it’s not going to get better. The bypass will not really help. A “double please” don’t move if you are from New York or New Jersey…

@@livinginwilmington2783 origonal and here long enough to watch it destroyed, First, by Yankees, then everyone else. I-40 was the single biggest mistake, what was a nice place is now ruined be people who often don’t even wave at each other anymore. Yeah for profit!
