Mr. Miu was out numbered all the way around. I hate that this resulted in death and injury, I do, but the circumstances that led up to the incident are very sketchy.

Disgusting outcome. Smestad (the weirdly emotional prosecutor) acted just like the teens, making unsubstantiated insinuations, as if he didn't have very many facts to lean on. Very disturbing.

Shame of these prosecutors for getting that man convicted. The lesson that teens learned today is that it's ok to group-taunt and bully an older man, accuse him of despicable intent, without proof or provocation, because prosecutors will not hold you accountable for any of your own despicable actions and provocations. I also watched a culpable judge who sustained the majority of the prosecution's objections, but denied the majority of the defense's objections, time after time.

With a diminished society, so too is the jury pool.

The defense was inadequate. They should have presented expert testimony on trauma and how people react under the stress of being attacked by a mob. Miu should be able to appeal this case due to very poor defense.

Well done to the prosecution team & the jury its justice for all concerned especially Isaac & his family & the other four victims in this case. Miu should have just walked away when he first went to leave & this would never have happened. Lads will always be lads when they are young & silly, But Miu should have just ignored the abuse & left. Miu slaughtered Isaac like an animal & gutted the other lad like a pig being slaughtered its just lucky the other lad didn't die even though his heart stopped twice he's lucky to be here. The life changing affects & scars on these victims bodies will stay with them for life. Miu is guilty 100%. He approached those kids without giving them any reason why, which is why they taunted him. He was sneaky in taking his knife out and started stabbing in anger. He could have backed away but he was too angry to leave. Then he lied to the police about everything that happened. Guilty 100%.

I feel that Mr. Miu feared for his life, panicked, and went into shock afterwards. These immature kids were totally out of line taunting and bullying an innocent man. Mr. Miu may have made a reckless decision at the time but under the circumstances, I believe the majority of people would have felt the same in his shoes. These kids thought everything was fun and games until they caused this tragedy. Didn't hear them laughing after that. Bullying is unacceptable in all respects. Just my opinion.

I was hoping praying the jury would see right through his lies and anger. This whole incident is unfortunate for all part involved. I keep thinking “why couldn’t Mr. Miu be the adult that he was and walk away”. These were a bunch of rowdy teens. What would one expect. The defense attorney kept referring Isaac’s group as “drunken teens”. Newsflash, all parties involved were tipsy. Mr. Miu admitted to they were drinking all day. The defense attorney was just trying to belittle those kids. Mr. Miu used the term “kids being kids”. Knowing this, why didn’t he take charge and be the adult that he is and go back to his group. No, he said he wanted to @stand his ground”. Resulting in a bunch of brutally slaughtered and or killed kids. Only if one can turn back the hands of time. This was a hard lesson taught to these kids. Bet they’ll think long and hard before they act out the way they did, but what was the alternative for them. They were in their area of the river. Mr. Miu came over to them touching their tubes and legs. They quickly jumped up and started calling him bad names. Carrying on the way kids do. It would have freaked me out if I was in one of those tubes. Plus, he wasn’t saying anything. OMG! Why didn’t Mr. Miu say the kids were attacking him from the start. When he was appended that’s when he started his warpath of lying. Seated in the back of the police car he says “I heard someone was stabbed and I fit the description”. When he got to the police station he told more lies. By golly, when he was in the stand and the prosecuting attorney was asking him questions HE COULDN’T REMEMBER A DAMN THING, RIGHT! How convenient!! Seeing a psychiatrist and taking meds after this whole ordeal. JURY SAW RIGHT THROUGH IT! He thought he was gonna go scott free! Mr. Miu was his worse enemy when he testified. AGAIN, JURY GOT IT RIGHT! Let him appeal if he wants to. THANK GOD FOR JAWAN’S video and that grainy video that someone took. Mr Miu acted like he couldn’t tell that was him in the video, right. Verdict on the lesser offenses of reckless conduct is a win for the defense. Prosecution's presentation of witnesses was not good unfortunately.

The kids were disrespectful, and, mr. Miu did not have call to cut them up with his knife. He was Out Of Line to open his knife... and it remains to be seen what the judge decides is his punishment! Only spoiled people who are used to getting out of paying consiquences will justify murder! He made a choice to kill. He needs to reap the consiquence for that. Watch it on very slow motion and learn how to read facial expressions correctly. Then you will understand why first degree murder is impossible...it's just not premeditated and not true. I live small town 5 drunk teens got in a car and drove head-on into a tractor trailer killing 3 of them The town mourned the friends grieved Lives forever changed Some straightened up and cleaned up Some fell further into drugs and drink. I hope these kids get help straighten up and clean up so their friend’s life was not lost in vain. We are a summer boating community which is known to party. I like seeing the support the survivors and friends are getting They are growing and charting new trajectories of life 🌺
