Cohen did not do 3 years for the same crime. Cohen pleaded guilty of 5 counts of willful tax evasion, 1 count of making false statements to a bank, 1 count of causing an unlawful campaign contribution, and 1 count of making an excessive campaign contribution. Trump has not been charged with any of those crimes.

The cover is sort of irrelevant when the point is to get an "exclusive story", ie, these people would be kept from talking to any other media people, so the stories would be kept out of the public eye. That it was the National Enquirer is not the point, surely, but rather that it isn't _anyone_ reporting on Trump's behaviour.
